Pacific Islands have no loyalty to NZ apart from ensuring they get mega millions of dollars in non accountable annual aid. People are very naive if they think these islands will not sign up for aid from China which in turn will build large ports and lend or give money to rebuild and modernize. In the future China will be able to claim these ports which they paid for and build any military bases they wish. No amount of NZ aid will deter the pacific islanders from turning down billions of dollars from China.

I used to support the rebuilding of this great church. But recently with the obvious delaying tactics of the Anglican Church I dont think it is any closer to being rebuilt. I would fully support the CCC and the Govt withdrawing all funding immediately to put an end to this on going fiasco once and for all.The Anglicans own the land and Church,so let them use their insurance payout and build and pay for for a new one. Otherwise demolish and clear the site, plant trees and provide public seating. A suitable plaque could be erected about the church and its history.

We ordered a bedroom suite from Smiths City in Christchurch this week, which is manufactured by Coastwood Furniture on the West Coast using local Radiata pine. We talked to the salesman about other types of timber. He said manufacturers are unable to purchase any wind blown Rimu lying on the ground as it must be left to rot under present government legislation. As an alternative manufacturers import a similar quality wood from Fiji. This is a situation forced on us by a few people.I totally agree with trying to get the law changed to allow recovery.

If ever caught they face a weak Judge, with an excellent free public appointed lawyer. Slap with a wet bus ticket, and a discharge under three strikes is the likely outcome. The usual excuses like I had a tough up bringing and I am just trying to feed my family and my partner has a baby on the way may also bring a tear to the judges eye.

Judith Collins would be an excellent Mayor. She certainly does not suffer fools and calls a spade a spade, with the result many of the under performing MP s just collecting a salary and keeping the seat warm would wounder what hit them. Go for it Judith. Phil is not tough enough to jump on those close to him who are actively undermining him but you certainly could and would.

Meanwhile out in the real world company directors can be taken to court for mismanagement of funds. The equal of directors in councils like CEOs cannot be taken to court. They simply increase rates for their never ending play money, ignoring public opinion by riding rough shod over them. Stupidity is certainly alive and growing by the day in Wellington councils.

Are the changes what customers want, or are they changes made by arm chair top management just because they think will be better. How many services will now require people to change buses at least once to get to their destination, where before only one bus was required?

Lets have compulsory travel insurance for all travellers. That way the taxpayers may get something back for all the FREE health treatment we give away as well as all the FREE rescue operations which seem to occur weekly. A case lately in NZ when a lady died a few days after being taken to hospital by ambulance she received an account after her death.

Do people not read the article or can they just not understand. The value of the fruit is when it is ready in a few months time and is picked for harvest. In its present state it is virtually worthless as it will not ripen when removed from the tree, and therefore cannot be eaten.

My understanding is that a crematorium operates at about 1000 degrees. It has been stated on many occasions in the past that the temperature of the blast was several thousand degrees. Many times hotter than a crematorium, so what could possibly remain to be recovered?

Why do Wilson Parking keep getting contracts? There are plenty of good NZ companies that can manage parking much better. Is there some hidden agenda as to why Wilsons are always chosen? It is definitely not because of their customer skills because they dont have any.

I am sorry Chris but I can not agree with you this time. If the church is ever restored which could be in twenty or thirty years time, the cost will likely be 250 to 300 million dollars. The normal interference, cost over runs, lack of cash, increase in labor and material, change in design, new health and safety designs, the cost will just keep increasing.

Great news, but why was the Waste to Energy plant put on hold? Surely burning waste to produce power for NZ is a benefit to us all. This process is used in many countries in the world and with advances in technology emissions are extremely low. Waste could be collected from any where in the south island and transported to the plant by Kiwi Rail using spare coal wagons or large closed in freight wagons direct to the plant. A win win for everyone.

Recycle plastic into oil as is done commercially overseas. One KG of plastic can produce one liter of oil. Both National and Labour support big business companies who own landfills. The obvious result is the more they can bury the more money they make, and aggressively oppose the recycling of plastic in NZ. A lot of plastic which we put in our yellow recycling bins goes direct to landfills where it can take 450 years to decompose. There are many sites on the web which show how plastic is turned into oil. No company, political party, local council , environment council,or government appears even slightly interested in recycling. But all are very keen for a photo opportunity as they stand next to a pile of plastic while complaining.

Plastic CAN be recycled into oil as is being done commercially overseas. One KG of waste plastic can produce one liter of oil. Canterbury University tested this out successfully many years ago. With NZ mentality of out of site out of mind, we prefer to send it either overseas or to the large companies owning landfills who are paid by the KG. We are a country of all talk and very little action as shown on the TV with an MP or some senior waste management person standing next to a mountain of plastic spouting some prepared worthless speech. Why is the Green party so silent on recycling waste plastic into oil?

My concern with any regional fuel tax is the councils that receive the money. The public have no confidence in them and money would simply be hidden and squandered with the usual untruths fed to the public. They can do this as the can not be held accountable for their actions, only voted out at the next election.

When this line is repaired Mainline Steam and Steam Incorporated will both run their popular steam excursions from Wellington to Gisborne. Kiwi Rail could also run their Silver Fern Rail car from Auckland to Wellington on this line as well as freight.

The biggest disappointment I have with field days is its lack of showing in depth to the millions of New Zealanders who are unable to visit. It is certainly worthy of having a private TV crew spend a few hours there each day and produce a show of 1 to 2 hours long which could be shown on some TV channel.

Thats what happens when you go on a holiday cruise. When we went on a cruise ship in Europe we disembarked to join tours to see the local areas. Certainly not to stay in the port port. Why could Lyttelton possibly expect tourists to wander around for the day when there is so much to experience elswhere?

Not naivety, plain stupidity. Resign as minister of immigration and go to the back benches where there may be a pillar you can hide behind. Jacinda show you are in charge by sacking this minister now as the public dont trust him or believe what he says. By trying to give him citizenship sends a strong message to other criminals---you are all welcome in NZ.

I dont think you have much of an idea of what the job of being a nurse fully entails. How would you cope with a violent drunk or drugged patient trying to strangle you, spit on you, abuse you, assault you, yelling at you, while all the time treating them professionally.Other patients just have to wait. Take your rose tinted glasses off Matt and get in the real world.

I am totally opposed to double dipping which the Anglican church is doing. They are getting funding from the taxpayer, as well as additional funding from the CCC rate payers who are actually contributing twice, as a tax payer and again as a rate payer. Enough is enough. Withdraw all funding immediately and let the Anglicans build a church of their design using their own money plus the insurance money. Butt out CCC and Regenerate Christchurch, as you have both caused enough problems and delays. Did I read lately where the Church has been given a $10 million lotto grant ?

One KG of plastic can produce one liter of oil. This is being done overseas on a commercial basis. In NZ we often bury plastic in land fills under the motto-out of site out of mind. I watched a programme on TV tonight showing mountains of waste plastic where it was mentioned many countries do not want our waste plastic. At no time was it ever mentioned or asked-- What could we produce in NZ with it. We are all talk with no action. Even the Green Party admitted tonight they have no strategy in place.

Plastic can be recycled into oil as is done overseas, 1 KG waste plastic can produce 1 liter of oil.Sawdust can be manufactured into pellets for pellet fires, which is done in NZ presently. It says 926 tonnes of grass or do they mean glass? Why is fish waste not turned into fish meal?It takes 450 years for a plastic drink bottle to decompose in a landfill. It takes 1 million years for a glass bottle to decompose in a landfill.A plastic bag 20 years to decompose.
