Disgraceful blatant waste of our money. Absolutely hopeless. So what they built a pool. Big deal.
To date they have achieved virtually nothing but a fat annual income.
the new playground didnt attract more businesses. In fact we lost more, including Westpac, but these guys are pinning their faith on salt pools to attract new businesses. At what point do they start to learn. This organistaion is incompetent and should be disbanded.
I want a job thats shrouded in secrecy, hard to measure and in which I get to spend millions of dollars of other peoples money too.
Id like to see some of the buildings in New Brighton town knocked down and 2 level ones put up with apartments at The top, and retail below. such a waste of coastal land. whats up with the land designation there? is it all tc3 or what? maybe the council should invest in doing the remedial earthworks in that whole area to make it more of a viable place to build for developers and privateers.
I was interested in this story until I scrolled down and a picture of the currently elected mayor wants to have a say in it.....
Just splash out with ratepayers money on another grand scheme and put up our rates again next year. Not a problem for the council. We have plenty of money to spare.
NB not so obvious beneficiary. A play ground from 8 years of millions of dollars to keep this DCL group in existence. We have other play grounds that did not need this investment group involvement. So why do we need DCL.............for a salt water pool. Tinkering in NB is not encouraging private investment, even the parking pot holes get a temporary patch.
Development Christchurch gets $3 million in ratepayer funding every year, but what has it achieved? As the city approaches the eighth anniversary of the September 4 earthquakeRate payers take note ...Over half the 3miilon dollars goes in Paying a staff of 13.CEO 319,000 x5 $130,000 X7 on $64,0000Plus DcLs compulsory further 3% Kiwi saver they have to add to the 13 staffs salaries Merge Otokara , DCL ,Regenerate & ChrirchurchNZ immediately just so much costly duplicationsAffordable rates Epidemic of trough feeding CEO & staff !!!
no deliverable tangibles yet on this planet, perhaps more on a parallel one? same old story with all parts of CCC too many minions, not enough action, too much wasted ratepayer cash
they have failed New Brighton completely. The new payground did not mean more shoppers and neither will the salt pools. Rob Hall is wasting our money.
I will believe that these organisations are wonderful the day that all the managers put $100,000 of their own money into these companys.
Saving well over half a million dollars by merging the development units seems eminently prudent.
Most beach areas have a view of the sea from buildings at least, why are there not more apartments or shops built to take advantage of a sea view?? If a suburb looks run down, it is run down. I know myself I never go to New Brighton now after being red zoned its a nightmare even getting access on the still damaged roads.
Agreed. Private business needs to invest in their privately owned shops. Or we let it sink and eventually an investor will be interested.........or not. No point ratepayers wasting money.
Merge the privileged incompetence of Otakaro/Regenerate with DCLs move to develop areas which will be lost to sea level rise, add in more secrecy excused as commercially sensitive? Rates are headed up and the get rich quick boys will be selling out the projects ratepyers subsidized with the rest of us left to pick up the pieces.
Its a damn shame that the New Brighton Mall is such a miserable dump. We go to New Brighton fairly regularly to use the library, walk on the beach and pier, watch the kiddies enjoying the new playground, have a coffee or go to the supermarket and Bin Inn. Now and then we will walk down the mall to see whats happening but it is a totally uninviting place to be. There are a handful of respectable shops bravely dotted amongst the trashy, empty and run down sites but overall its a sad place to be so we generally avoid it. Unfortunately its a catch-22 situation - if there is not enough to attract people they wont visit and if there is nothing to visit no one will come which is why so many shops have disappeared. Will the pools make a difference? I dont know but we will be using them once they are built.
but theyve all got nice socks. they get paid well, the train keeps on giving, px meetings each week, laughable consultation, millions for a green spine whatever that is, New signs along the dilapidated riverbank... yawn.
New Brighton Mall needs a roof put on it from end to end. I love New Brighton Mall and its sad to see it in the state its in and yes it used to be really really busy but that was because there was no where else to go. The other malls were in their infancy and New Brighton stood pretty much alone and people would put up with the rain and the wind to get their shopping done. Now they dont have to.......
New Brighton could be turned into an amazing beach side boulevard but then on the other hand we have global warming
