Council to charge derelict property owners for using public spaces

Do these new rules apply to the now super derelict Council offices in Sockburn ordoes Council write itself an exemption?

Don't forget your own buildings like Sockburn Service centre and so on. Clean up your own derelict places first

Just demolish the remaining lot, if it was worth saving they would've done it by now. Cathedral should of been first to go

Sorry is that the hypocrisy hotline! Did I read in another article today you haven't even a plan for the sockburn centre you own, and aren't there a few heritage buildings you own with scaffolding etc. Clean up your own act!

With you here, CCC need to take some of their own advice!!

and when do we the people get to vote this lot out ?

Bloody good job, especially the Cathedral. Its surrounding area is full of weeds and looks like a bomb site! At least the CPT could engage Jims Mowing or somebody to tidy the place up.

The only problem vlad is that these turkeys replaced the last incompetent turkeys. I wouldnt hold my breath for the competency percentage to go up any time soon,no matter which turkeys get balloted in.

Awesome! So how does it work for Old Municipal Chambers and Provincial Chambers? Charge $15.30 to the CCC and then pass it on as a Rate hike!

The owners will claim heritage status and get a grant from the council to pay the bill

given the time it takes for Chch council (and NZ Civil service) to do anything posative they _will_ be legitimate heritage age...

What a few thousand dollar fine to the Cathedral? Didnt these same clowns give them $10M of our rates?!

Maybe they need to charge themselves. Derelict water supply (chlorine in but no repair work on Well heads). Stuffed up the roading system and created dumb speed limits. Spent millions on hardly used cycle lanes at the expense of needed infrastructure work. Dumb work on town hall. Oh the list go on. Oh no, just had a thought. They're not accountable it will be the Rate payer paying again. Roll on election time.

Great news CCC. Do not put this out for public consultation or get any consultants involved. Just act now and charge the owners the fees as soon as possible. You will get great public support for this.

No ...charge the ones who opposed this cathedral being demolished and a new one built. The thing is that lot don't even go to the Anglican church. They should be ashamed of themselves

Bit disingenuous as the CCC are holding up the Cathedral - it's been over a year and their 10 mill is no where to be seen.

What a sorry state of affairs. Earthquakes are bad enough, but add government and council inadequacies to them and it becomes a really sad situation.

Does this council not see how ridiculous it is?And what IS happening with the cathedral? Its NINE months since the previous Minister got the Church to vote to reinstate the cathedral. Surely this isnt the subject of another of this governments reviews and hence progress grinding to a halt?

Probably this move is beyond time, however, you do have to feel sorry for the church as they wished to demolish the cathedral and were stopped by people who couldn't mind their own business like Jim Anderton and Phillip Burdon.

Another councilor grandstanding, you will be hearing alot from them now up towards election all trying to save their jobs, this idea should have been done years, with this council its all about the money not about the people
