Funny how executives get paid far more than the value they create. If a job is worth doing it is worth a living wage. That we value celebrities more than teachers, police, nurses is a sever social problem, not something to be simply accepted as normal. This author offers greed as our moral guide. By his reckoning financial elites and arms dealers add value and deserve their outrageous earnings. An author to avoid.

All government spending, contracts, etc must be fully transparent at all stages. No more commercial sensitivity excuses. If it cant stand the light of day, it does not deserve our support, or dollars.

NZTA chief executive Fergus Gammie said the agency had put too much emphasis on self-regulation and knew it had to do better. Good ol National and their constant bureaucratic reorganisations. Add in their anti government business can do it better; who needs regulation? mantra resulting in lives lost, an industry harmed. The coalition government has a chance now to set things right and appears to be trying to do so.

With infrastructure repairs from the quakes not scheduled for completion in the current 30 year plan adding 16% to our population will turn out very badly. Councils best hope is that those who come will be too broke to leave, and once they start paying ever increasing rates they will join the rest of us trapped rats. Pie in the sky from those on top, while the foundations of our infrastructure remain shaky. Yeah, lets build a stadium and a convention centre and a rowing lake.

I look forward to Stuffs next article on how home owners are forced to sell up due to rates they can no longer afford to pay. It is long past time to tax the wealthy and add in capital gains. Those who can are escaping taxes, those with the least are losing ground. Homelessness and misery are only increasing.

With the stadium proposed for Chch to cost $500 million++ and $50 million to operate and no comprehensive business plan these constant articles pushing for it are not helpful. If the stadium is built Chch and Dunedin will be competing against each other further lowering income for each.

All those blaming the Council for delays have forgotten that it was National in central government which totally stuffed up the rebuild, failed to force insurers to act responsibly and in a timely manner and have left us with anchor projects set to sink ratepayers in unfathomable debts. Typical, National screws up, Labour gets the blame. Are we doomed to just repeat our mistakes?

National loved beneficiary bashing and the meth scare hysteria they whipped up was a calculated political decision to gain votes. Thousands suffered, hundreds of millions wasted and National just denies it all. Typical.

U.S.President Eisenhower observed: Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. By this measure the U.S. is the worlds great thief and Trump working for the criminal gang which benefits.

With a very conservative additional 20% for inflation and cost over runs option 2 will easily hit $564 million. Ratepayers will be stuck picking up the nearly $100 million in extra costs. Add in the annual losses of millions.Dont build what we cant afford. I would like to stay in Chch, but my rates bill is pushing me out.

Blatant lies. No foregone conclusion, but we are going to build a stadium regardless of business case? Christchurch mayor and Canterbury Mayoral Forum chairwoman Lianne Dalziel said a report to the forum on the stadium business case and funding options was due next year, and nothing was a foregone conclusion at this stage. It will be a money pit sucking away at ratepayers wallets. But those who will profit are OK with that.

The last governments MoH made life miserable for the CDHB through underfunding, delays and incompetence. The CDHB has been acknowledged internationally for their response to the quakes and innovations in delivering medical services. Parker does need to front up but has 9 years of Nationals attacks on the CDHB to undo. Making a mess is easy, cleaning it up difficult.

The Press was unable to find a single knowledgeable person to explain the issues the RMA seeks to address? Not fit for purpose construction or engineering and the impacts of projects on the environment can lead to massively expensive problems. Consider our experience with foundations and the quakes. Can the RMA be made better? Of course. But providing well balanced information to the public is essential to achieve that. This was an extremely unbalanced piece of reporting.

Too many of us are tribal as we prefer to align with the alpha male leader in the hope we might survive if not thrive. This has more or less worked but brought us to the brink of self destruction where our tribalism and faith in alpha male leaders is pushing us over the edge. The ultimate living creature is now bringing about the ultimate demise of life on this planet.

$28 million for a vanity flag referendum, failed quake response with EQC leading the way, under funding health, education, DoC, and now $113,000 for Bridges road trip and the list goes on. But, yeah highlighting the successful struggle for women is a waste of money.

Having heard Spokes submission to the LTP I found it online. Not such an unreasonable group. Quote from their submission Spokes acknowledges that some people have to drive. Getting more of us on foot, bikes and buses reduces the congestion allowing those who must drive to do so more easily.

Peter Davie said changing the design to minimise impact on protected Hectors dolphins in the harbour and to ensure safe handling of giant cruise ships had added to the cost and The sheer size of vessels carrying 6000 passengers forced realignment of the berthYeah, definitely the dolphins fault.

More whining by a disgruntled National supporter. Attack the government any way you can, real, imagined, delusional or simply grossly exaggerated. Cutting taxes is always the prescription, at least you pay a bit of lip service to raising wages, sometime in 2021. Meanwhile those working at the low end of wages can continue to struggle.

Look at Stuff spin. National, as the largest party and the only party with no ministers other than ACT, naturally spent the most: $1,410,659. Nats are 46% of MPs but spent 67% of the total.Labour spent 23% with 38% of MPs. NZ 1st at 7.5% of MPs spent 5% and the Greens 4% with 7% of MPs. Yes, we will see more once we get the Ministers spending, but comparing apples to apples National is clearly the big spender of taxpayers dollars. I guess that is natural, they love to rort.

The law is an ass. Lets see what Labour does. Do they work with the Greens to change this asinine law with haste; or do they remain silent hoping to pick up more disgruntled Green votes? National can only hope so. The assertion that the Greens were almost wiped out before the election over similar battles between pragmatists and purists. is incorrect. The media spun Metirias admission of benefit fraud as the most heinous political crime ever committed and screamed for her head. In contrast Nationals Todd Barclay who broke the law, denied it and refused to cooperate with police was given a free pass. If we want a better country with better laws we will need better reporting.

Clearly not as evidenced by the comments found here. For those who are escaping taxes, especially thanks to the lack of a CGT, the only unfair thing about taxation is that they have to pay anything at all. Let the working stiffs pay tax, their betters are above that sort of thing.
