Dont know why they dont just do a rail link from Puhinui Station area. Its 3kms underground to Manukau memorial gardens then above ground after that. Waterview tunnel is 2.5 so just a bit further than that?? Its gotta be cheaper than building a whole new system from the CBD, right? Not sure about this fixation with an independent system...

So laidlaw promised us that the trolleys would be replaced by electrics. Has anyone seen one? He promised the routing and timetabling would be an improvement. Four times Ive been told I cant get on a bus because its full, numerous times buses have driven by because theyre full and several times they just havent turned up. Good on you Laidlaw: you turned a perfectly good system into a banana republic joke. You should resign NOW! Youre clueless!

Thats what you get when you neglect the assets, ay? So much neglect... so much to do... Need to just get on with it and get it done. Time to stop looking at all the bits that are missing and focus on whats already there so we can build on that...

Totally agree! Used to drive to Kinleith every day dodging baseball sized rocks falling off the log frames on the trucks and avoiding fully laden trailers swinging way out wide coming the other way on bends! Get the trucks off the road. Theyre a dangerous nightmare. Glad to see the back of them!

Or... not every cyclist is an ex-bus traveller. More people on bikes means fewer people in cars. At the same time, the widened room for cycle lanes means that cyclists arent spilling out on the roads and freaking out the few remaining drivers so congestion is reduced. Your logic seems more dodgy than mine lol

Hmmm, that feels a little bit like spin. Sorry. Been to plenty of cities in Japan and elsewhere services perfectly adequately by rail and only a few by tram. Heavy seems to work. Tram around CBD, rail to the airport. I'd do tram in Wellies coz it's close. Auckland would be too slow over that distance i would have thought. But as you like...

I mainly walk and catch the bus and I watch what goes on while getting around. I drive my car about once a week and notice how all the other cars are in the way... not the bikes... reduce the number of cars and youre getting a win in my book... Every road has a choke point no matter how big the road is. The way to make more space is to reduce the number of cars not build bigger roads. Cycleways seem a sensible solution for drivers in this regard...

Hmmm, or they might be using their brains and understanding that were not all a pack of dribblers that need a straw every time were within ten metres of a drink...

Time to convert our zoos into care and breeding centres for our own native species rather than dragging exotic species around the world to entertain the kids. Zoos are an anachronism from a time before TV. You can see all the wild animals you want all over the internet these days. Time for zoos to go...

Theyre speaking on behalf of all the other life forms on the planet that are unable to speak for themselves. Theyre capable of seeing the world beyond the end of their own noses and they dont like what they see. Good on them for their foresight!

Way less than one per cent of the population will be doing 400km per day away from a fast charger. Anyone driving around a city (taxis etc) will have access to fast chargers and I imagine it wont be long before taxi companies are setting up their own systems.

Ok. I dont mind either way. I was brought up with trains and think theyre great. Maybe light rail is a step on the path to somewhere else. I just know those roads get bunged-up at times and when its chaos Im not sure theyll be much movement. I also know that probably only backpackers (if that) will be willing and have the time to sit on light rail to the airport. And we really do need a decent airport solution. People from out of the city (Hamilton, Tauranga and the tens of satellite towns like Huntly, Ngaruawāhia, Cambridge, Morrinsville, Putaruru, Paeroa, Thames, etc.) would use a rail link, but probably not a train into Akld Central and then tram back out to the airport. Rail would bring in another half million potential users...

Asian countries are beginning to understand that their tourism is being heavily impacted by plastic pollution and theyve started doing something about it. Were playing our part to protect our beautiful environment, as we should...

I wish everyone thought like you. Some people are really struggling with the whole principle of taking responsibility for the environment. Glad to have people like you in the world. Would be great if we had less of the other whingers!

Waste incinerators are atrocious. Theyre dirtier and only about a third as efficient as coal (tonne for tonne). They convert trash into greenhouse gas, and they produce highly soluble toxic ash and sludge from scrubbers that goes to landfill and slowly leaches into our rivers. Landfill liners are designed to last 100 years. Assuming thats the limit of how long humanity is hoping to be around were all good. If were planning to be around for longer, were just trashing the future for generations to come!!

Theyre next on the list. As someone who purportedly seems to enjoy the beach, Im surprised youre not more committed to keeping our beautiful beaches beautiful... or maybe youre a singing Beachboy rather than an actual beach Beachboy type??

There are still issues with compostable bags, Dan. They are usually designed to compost in a commercial composter that generates high temperatures, and if they get mixed in within soft plastic recycling they can ruin the whole batch. So in some ways theyre worse than standard plastic bags. I think taking our own bags is the trick. We always used to do that. Theres no reason we cant go backwards to go forwards, ay?

I have spent a lot of time looking into this snowman and theyre just not good...The solution is to stop creating waste, not to find ways to make it disappear. Incinerators are just using the sky as a landfill. Theres no making waste go away; theres only making waste go over there, and in the case of incinerators over there is in the sky instead of in the ground!

Consumer power is fine, but legislation is required when selfishness, greed and stupidity block the mental reasoning needed to see beyond the ends of our noses. Just check out the rest of the comments here if youre in any doubt about the need for legislation to help the process along...

I guess theres environmentalists and then theres environmentalist, ay? The ones I know just want people to stay the hell out and let things recover. Cant see that ever happening unfortunately, so we probably need to prepare ourselves for a world peopled by cockroaches, ants and sparrows... It gives me hope that people like yourself understand whats at stake :)

And then youll have to take the plastic bags that you have to pay for to the supermarket with you... rather than just taking reusable bags that will cost you nothing... theres a hole in your head where the logic is dribbling out... lol
