Weird. Its like two different articlesHeadline: Light hearted vegan speaks Part 1: Vegans are really cool people. Part 2: Writer is learning Te Reo. Something something, I hate white peopleSynopsisThis is not a humorous article. Its a feelings articleThis vegan is hurt over the constant jokes about veganismEncourages white people in full immersion Te Reo..but dosnt like white peopleIf you dont support vegans you are racistUh huh.

Not really sure of the point of your article? Are you talking about being. Vegan or racism? Or saying they are the same thing? Or saying only vegans can not be racist? The thing is, being a vegan is your choice, however, you obviously see it more as a political move, and when you ram politics and ideology down someone's throat, they don't exactly like it, pretty similar reaction I would imagine if someone tries to ram their own flavour of politics down your throat. Lefties always preach acceptance and love , EXCEPT when you disagree, the it's all hatred and ridicule. So here's something radical, don't tell anyone you're a vegan! And accept others choices to not be.

How did a light-hearted piece on being vegan end up as a (semi) racist dig at non-Maoris? (I refuse to use the P word). Disappointing end to the article.

to recap: the writer is vegan. He was an an event where they accomodated his choice of diet. He was happy about that. As for the rest of his life, all he ever sees are negative things. End of story.

When you realize that veganism is becoming an extremist cult - see the hate crime against butchers and restaurants in the UK and Europe - your opinion can change very quickly towards them.As for the Te Reo rant at the end which was odd - Ill say this. I think its great that so many people have the opportunity to learn the language and I personally support the development of Maori culture. However, what grates me is all Maori out there who only acknowledge their Maori heritage even though a large percent of them are more Pakeha than Maori - personally I know a lot that hated on Pakeha then had their DNA tested and they were only 30% Maori. Im not saying dont embrace that side but please acknowledge the other side too.FYI - some of the most racist people I have ever known were Maori - One family I knew refused to have any Pakeha friends, and constantly bagged Pakeha to home - and after a lifetime of working often as the only Pakeha in my crew I can tell you that its not an isolated incident.

He has a habit of conveying those feelings in his articles..........Joel,People do not dislike Vegans as such, but we dislike judgemental, righteous people pushing their beliefs and morals on others of which a high portion of vegans seem to be...

You don't have to tell me. You can just say no thanks. Like I do, as a gluten free person. ˜No thank you' works just fine.

Notice that the evil meat murderers were hospitable and catered for his vegan sensibilities. Notice that a vegan NEVER reciprocates. A vegan will NEVER meet anyone halfway, as they are always right, and dogma is paramount. Which is part of why you get jokes made about you, you muppet.

Vegans might gain more acceptance if they somehow disassociated themselves from radical organizations like SAFE, PETA etc in my view. I look at the SPCA and see an honest genuine outfit looking out for and protecting the welfare of animals. Wrongly or rightly when I look at SAFE, PETA etc I see Vegans trying to push their agenda over and above animal welfare otherwise we would see them helping animals in situations like floods, fires, earthquakes and the likes.

Waah im a victim... Oops, I mean Vegan.

Bit of a laugh needed? Heres my fav vegan joke. (Nicely apt for the article)Q. How do you know theres a vegan in the room?A. Theyve told you 12 times already.

1. Pick a random topic and blather on about its virtues or vices.2. Remind everyone yet again how racist NZ is.3. Remind everyone yet again how wonderful Te Reo is.4. Sit back and bask in my own self-righteous moral superiority.Every Joel Maxwell piece ever.

I am on a restricted diet, just say that looks delicious but I am not hungry just now, or offer to take a piece for later then give it to someone else or bin it. No need to evangelize.

Really nice and entertaining start to this article. Sadly, the second half undid all that.

Vegans never used to worry me , I didnt get it - vegetarianism I get but not vegan. However, when I started following all the hate crime against butchers and restaurants in the UK and Europe - with some butchers saying they feared for their lives - I started to release that it had become a kin to an extremist religion. And like all the religious people out there who dont preach and just go about their business, they have to take the hate towards the extreme ones who preach and even kill - they just have to suck it up and so do you.

Joel is a bloke and you really need to read a lot of his other articles to paint the picture for yourself.

Well this article escalated into racism quickly didnt it? Bigots abound on either side of every argument so it seems.

Joel, if you are reading this to many the term Pakeha is racist. Please use Caucasian for future references. You are not in a Marae or in a Maori majority setting. This is coming from one Maori to another. Kia Ora.Notably, as stated in another one of your articles the meaning of Pakeha has no racist connotations. It is only the view of some that see it as so. So as to not offend those...

Joel thinks that Pakeha should just accept jokes made at their expense, that when Pakeha are made fun of they should just get over it. Please Joel, apply that same racist standard to Maori.

I have no issue with vegans that live and let live. But vegans who insist on ramming their views down others throats (meat is murder etc) are widely despised and have unfortunately given all of you a bad name.
