I choose not to catch a bus in Wellington until the drivers working conditions are sorted, it is simply unsafe the way things are right now and something is going to go seriously wrong. - Transit / Transurban are either incompetent or plan arrogant but they must comply with the law of NZ and negotiate a Collective Agreement with the union - sort out these unsafe practices and improve the drivers pay. # Tranzit / Transurban and GWRC will almost certainly have blood on their hands if this situation is not sorted out soon.

The future for rail is very bright indeed, internationally rail is being invested in very heavily with new lines being built and others reopened both in 1st and also 3rd world country's - NZ has been somewhat backwards over the last 9 years in its attitude towards rail - thanks to the rail hating Nat's! You truck lovers need to realise the damage these trucks do to the roads and communities, that rail is much more fuel efficient than road transport and that rail isn't treated fairly compared to roading in NZ (ie roads have hidden subsidy's which rail don't have.)

The Gisborne to Napier line should be reopened all the way, not just to Wairoa (though this is a good start!) - this line has big potential in attracting roving tourist trains and transferring the growing freight volumes off the roads at a fraction of the cost of what road upgrades would be. A regular passenger train like the popular Northern Explorer would be a real hit with the travelling public.

Decommissioning the main line electrification would make NZ an international laughing stock - our clean green image would really take a hit. The only other railway in the world to decommission electric rail operations is Zimbabwe! - The NZ Government really needs to insist that Kiwirail doesnt go ahead with this crazy and backward plan.

Under National NZTA were forbidden to invest in â˜cross regional boundary passenger services - I suspect this is what Mr Twyford / Mr Strange are talking about. Also under Nats all central govt transport moneys were directed to â˜roads of Nat Significance- the Palmerston North CC train was only saved by KIwirail / GWRC / Horizon Regional Council going three ways on costs, NZTA invested nothing at all because they were not allowed to by law.
