We have a daughter, who when she was 14 years and older was one of the best players in the boys club and boys rep team until she made the NZ girls team at 16. She was selected as a boys rep player at age 9 in the under 11s. She potentially could have been selected at 12 years old for the NZ girls squad as team mates in that NZ squad said she would have been the best player, but she never went to the girls tournaments and stayed with the boys rep team as this is what she chose to do. She was playing boys youth grade at 14 and dominating 16 and 17 year old boys. She made central districts girls team at 14 and the womans team when 16 and was a top player. We chose in her early years to play her up in level in every grade she was in and this payed big dividends in her footballing ability. This is what I would suggest to do with your above average female or male player. She still plays soccer to this day and has three lovely boys. But, what put her off going to the NZ level was the administration and the BS that was going on, which she got to hear about through her friends in the NZ team.
