'Frankenstein wine' warning over French supergrapes

the article says In recent months, Inra scientists received state authorisation to grow four varieties of resistant grape called Araban, Floreal, Voltis and Vidoc which will lead to wine bottled by 2020.Sounds unlikely that resistant grapes were already bottled last November

You can insert genes that produce substances that are fatal for certain insects while completely harmless to humans. Very common in the states especially in corn.

Nope. Biodynamic certified agriculture allows the use of the fungicide copper sulphate at up to 15kg per hectare.

losing its reputation seems like a bit of an overreaction. France already produces wine that is great . . . and some that are definitely not so great. It hasnt lost its reputation on the back of those wines that are already bad.

Fungicides are a class of pesticide. Look it up. Google it, or get your dictionary out.

Fungicides are a type of pesticide. According to Wikipedia pesticides include herbicide, insecticides (which may include insect growth regulators, termiticides, etc.) nematicide, molluscicide, piscicide, avicide, rodenticide, bactericide, insect repellent, animal repellent, antimicrobial, fungicide, disinfectant (antimicrobial), and sanitizer.

Put a posh wine label on it and no-one will be able to tell the difference (This has been proven)

It all comes down to taste. If it works thats great. If it doesnt then France will lose its reputation.

What do pesticides have to do with powdery mildew and downy mildew which are fungal diseases? Pesticides are in a completely separate ball park..

Some is already exported, we bought a bottle of La Colombette, Beziers last November and we are still breathing, labelled vin experimentale with no reference to region.

Many vineyards have gone organic and bio dynamic, meaning zero pesticides ever, so that argument is moot.

NOT harmless.
