Who determines whats worth listening to? Who determines what were allowed to think? Just because we disagree with an opposing idea doesnt give us the right to prevent others from thinking it, sharing it, or discussing it. Should we only discuss ideas that are palatable? Or should we discuss all ideas, even ones that may find grotesque and less popular? If we start choosing what ideas others are allowed to think, share, and discuss on their behalf it is fascism - plain and simple.

Im a teacher. Im keen for this suggestion of 8am-4.30pm 48 weeks a year and not taking any work home (including emails). This sounds way easier than what were currently doing. Taking no work home...that sounds like a dream! No weekend work either...a dream! Im excited thinking about it!!! Id reduce the 12 weeks non-contact time to 4 weeks in a heartbeat.Problem is that admin will have to be cut hugely, and all meetings and prep time will have to be cut. Or...we could instead implement paid overtime for Parent-Teacher interviews, sports roles, camps, PD, report writing, assessment analysis, planning, resource making, meetings with learning and behavioral experts, and other things that cannot be completed in the 1 hour before school and 1.5 hours after school each day. We could even charge parents a fee for time they need to discuss matters with us, so we can have our work completed by 4.30pm. A normal overtime rate should cover this at 1.5 times my hourly rate. If this isnt possible, there wouldnt be enough time to get everything needed completed, but the childrens education can suffer, we dont want to invest in our teachers anyway so who cares? This is sounding like a dream job now. Less hours, less work, less overtime (or paid overtime), awesome job! It just sucks that I care so much about my childrens future and arent willing to let them suffer. I guess Ill have to take these cutting comments on the chin and fight for your child on your behalf.

The education system is much more broken than nursing. If teaching is so easy and they get paid so much, why dont more people become teachers? Its a difficult job, class sizes are too high, behavior management is near impossible with children, and the list goes on.
