All nurses deserve safe staffing levels at work. If an incident happens, his/her registration is on the line never mind the short staffing, this is totally unfair, eroding morale. Nurses dont go into this profession for the money but in order to make nursing an attractive and viable career - especially as nurses are expected to take on extra study, masters etc they need to be rewarded. Hard yakka- as is teaching and policing, these professions need more respect otherwise who will look after you when you are old, who will give our children the education they need, who will keep our streets safe???. We need too get the basics right. Trim the fat from management and public funded broadcasters salaries (which are obscene) and give it to those who do valuable, real work

Im pleased the nurses are pushing back, gives me hope for myself and family that if and when we need health services those professionals will have enough skilled staff to do their job properly. I hope more young people will want to do such a worthwhile rewarding job as a career instead of looking at the pay and deciding their career purely on that, however I do understand that this country is expensive and you need to earn a decent amount to get by. Really feel for our young ones. Do not have any admiration for the big wigs sitting at their desks earning obscene amounts of money for ....... what?. Time to share the rock star economy spoils with those who deserve it. It beggars belief that nurses working at the coal face doing horrible hours with huge responsibility on their shoulders arent valued. Criminal!. I want to be proud of our health system and look after those that look after us. We have a long way to go to correct the last ten years of neglect. Thanks Doctor Coleman. How do these people sleep at night?. Probably quite well ....

Me too!. All the negative comments when Jacinda was on maternity leave and Winston was in charge and what happened?. A smooth ship sailed, thats what!. Winston did the job he was set to do. Jacinda is doing a great job despite negative comments that being a mum and prime minister couldnt go hand in hand. So shes just made it work. Jacinda andWinston, great working team. The world is in a precarious state, nowhere is immune. I am proud of this coalition government, they have a difficult time ahead. So far so good and managing with integrity and respect. Kia kaha

Nurses earnings have not kept up with similar professions despite having tertiary education, degree, post graduate study etc. They are asking for this to be corrected. They are asking for their wards to be safely staffed so we get the care we deserve and they were trained to give. They shouldnt have to fight for safe staffing levels for us, this is unacceptable.

In any country theres always a percentage of people who for whatever reason are unemployable. I dislike that defeatist attitude and think that with this program many bright stars will shine, young people who otherwise would have no direction. I think this is a much needed and courageous scheme. Well done!!

Management, CEOs, they have no idea, most just lining their pockets. They should walk in a nurses shoes for a day and realise the good hard work these people do, so often working late without remuneration in often unsafe conditions. Time to strike nurses and get what youre worth, you are invaluable. Without you, the backbone of our health system we would be in dire straits. Go the nurses!!!!!

Often it depends on what stage of life you are at. You may earn more but often you work more for it. A friend of mine lives in Switzerland and he does earn more but there are more rules, less time off, more people traffic etc and he misses the easy-going friendliness of New Zealand but each case is obviously different depending on which country youre in and what area. Often people come home for family reasons, the most important reason of all. Good luck to all that live and work abroad, exciting times!! Enjoy!

Nurses have been under paid for years. They need to catch up with other similar professions. They are highly qualified with degrees and post graduate study and deal with often complex grueling conditions. If we want a good health system lets have staffing for a start. This should not be something nurses have to plead for. This is our health system they are fighting for so you and your family can feel safe if you ever end up in hospital

Totally agree!!, OUR health system for our childrens future, same with education, its the basis of a good healthy society. They need our support, I dont earn much but I would put in extra tax dollars to secure my health future and that of my fellow kiwis, not so keen on paying management though lol!

Paul Henry, was funny at times but then he went too far and became arrogant boorish and plain horrible. I did love how he cared for his mum Olive, she looked amazing and was so proud of him. I always had a giggle when he said his mum lived in the home for the bewildered. His relationship with his gorgeous mum was beautiful. His TV less so at times,IMO

The economic downturn was forecast long before Labour was in power. Perhaps why the rats jumped ship?. But we are still growing albeit at a slower rate. Sun still shines, birds sing- we need a more positive attitude please

The so called downfall of new zealand (so un1) happened under nationals watch, selling of state assets, butchering our health system, thanks Mr Coleman, see you are now in private healthcare - no surprise there!. Its time the government focused on the workers who make the big boys richer. Fair wage for a fair days work. Unfortunately they are on the Blackfoot thanks to nine years of neglect under the smiling assassins reign. The economy was predicted to slow over a year ago long before Labour came into power so difficult times ahead no matter who is in government.
