Yep. As far as Im aware no one has come up with any stats that would actually prove that Ramos had made sexist decisions, and I doubt anyone will. I think just straight out bring in bigger penalities. Smash your racket? Instant disqualfication. Abuse the umpire? Same. Serena has all the hallmarks of a narcissist so I have no expectation that she will either change or admit any fault on her part. I feel sorry for her husband and anyone else who has to put up with her on a day-to-day basis.

Since when did being a strong women equal shouting, intimidating, bullying, refusing to admit fault, and shifting the blame for bad behaviour onto other people? Plus theres the rank display of narcissism when she tries to hide her motivations (beliefs about entitlement, self-involvement) and pulls the victim card at the end of it all, using what looks like well-rehearsed emotive language to manipulate people into supporting her. Id call that weak and pathetic. Strength is keeping your cool.

Exactly, this is beyond whatever party preferences people have. I hope people are looking beyond that and we dont fall into some sort of nasty partisan-driven thinking in which people defend terrible behaviour because of the us and them mentality which means that you have to support rubbish leaders because theyre your party, with all the childish good person/bad person dialogue that goes with it.

Cickens can live quite happliy in the wiild. I had some free-rangers a few years ago and one of the young roosters started up his own wild colony in the orchard next door. I couldnt catch them - too wily - and the neighbour didnt mind so we agreed to leave them there rather than him shoot them. Chickens arent poor helpless things that need doting humans to keep them safe. They are birds and they are made to be outside. They roost in sheltered places and will withstand winter storms no problem. Alert roosters will keep an eye out for predators and screech if they see a hawk in the sky - they will also forage beneath trees to keep safe. The wild colony is still there and they are happy and healthy. I dont agree with animal dumping but the poor chickens thing is misguided. Theyre probably very satisfied with their lot and healthier than many caged birds. If they are eaten by a hawk etc, well, thats nature, a quick demise following a happy life pecking and foraging.

What I read into this is that the woman is bored and she blames her husband for it and would really like him to do the changing, that is, her feelings of emptiness and boredom are his fault. Note the comment about having male friends who make me laugh. Which confirms that yes, indeed, other males have the ability to make her feel happier, its just that hubby doesnt. This is pure self-deception. Talk to your husband, who sounds like a decent guy. Fact is, nobody is responsible for anyone elses feelings. Come on lady, stop kidding yourself and take a look in the mirror. Change starts with you. Think about what youre doing for your relationship, not what your relationship is doing for you.

Paula Bennett is worried? For JLR? She doesnt give a rats about him, lines like that are just what some PR person has coached her into putting on so she can appear to come across as caring and therefore be more persuasive, whilst sneakily asserting that JLR has something wrong with him. Pity is backfired as it is demonstrably rubbish and just shows the grasping, sleazy underbelly of politics as those involved fall over themselves to lie, cheat, mislead and manipulate. Bennetts tone-deaf interview was a train wreck. Crikey

It seems a eulogy has simply become just another opportunity to (a) talk about yourself and/or (b) ear bash people with your political views. Pity what was once supposed to be a fitting tribute is now increasingly being seen as just another opportunity for self promotion.

Ah, the elusive and mystical beast business confidence. Before people get all tribal and start raving on about their team or the other team, sorry, I meant political parties, have a good think about the survey method (somewhat dodgy), the concept as a reliable measure (definitely dodgy), and the amount to which such a concept becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Business is necessary, I own one, but I dont think we need to run around, knees shaking over the economy, just because of some hearsay and analysis by what are effectively lobby groups for businesses. They didnt ask me what I thought, and if they had, theyd know Ive forecast at least 20% growth for my business next year, and greater investment as a result. I couldnt keep up with demand, hiked prices by 80% over two years, and still sell everything I produce plus have a waiting list. I could easily jump the prices up again but, all considered, am happy with the current balance. If youre running around all sad because the Government isnt doing enough for your business to grow, perhaps youd better change your business model and make your own luck, as they say.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the phrase calls a spade a spade. This phrase implies brutal honesty of the tell it like it is sort. Trump has shown himself to be an out and out liar, repeatedly. No, this isnt because I read it on the internet in some anti-trump article, its because Ive seen and heard his outright lies, and its not hard to work out they are lies because he comes along, says one thing and a few days, or even hours, later, claims he didnt say what he said. Trump would call a spade a fork, a shoe, or a hot dog if it suited him.

Whats you point? Since when did not having a street address mean you had no fixed abode? Its fairly common practice out there. Let me guess, youve never spent any time on a rez snd have no idea it all what you are talking about but somehow follow along with some childlike black/white thinking that means anything that the Democrats want to do is bad, even if its denying native Americans the vote. You do know the history of voting in the us, right. How you could support such a disgusting system is being me.

Lucky to still be alive, seems like every year some fool gets trampled by a buffalo trying to get a photo, pat one etc. The message is, stay away from wild animals, you might like them, but they dont like you. Dont try and pat or get close to any animal that is big enough to kill you, unless you know what you are doing. Dont go near cows with calves - theyll try and defend their baby as any mother would, and youre likely to be flattened - Ive seen idiots doing just that and then blaming the cow when they get chased. Dont leap in the water when you see a whale or dolphin because you saw it on the internet and thought it looked fun or you are having an ego trip and want to impress your friends on Facebook. Just stay away and leave the animals be.

I contacted Quinovic thinking I might use a property manager for my rentals. I saw the contract and backed out as I was concerned about the potential for fee farming. After their series of adverts I am glad I never signed. I have no interest in doing business with a company who promotes these sorts of messages. I was a renter once and will never forget what it was like. I have great tenants who treat my places like their own and one couple even help out my elderly mum who lives next door to them. Quinovics ads are disgusting.

The due date is plus or minus two weeks, so next week isnt overdue, just like last week wouldnt have been early. the 40 weeks EDD is a window not a target. A first pregnancy is often a little longer. Induction has its risks, so induction when the baby is not actually overdue would be ill advised. Someone please tell both Jacinda and Amanda Gillies that the baby is not overdue until two weeks past the estimated due date (EDD). If it arrives within two weeks after the EDD, the baby is on time, not late

Wasnt there some research out of Europe that found that as screen time went up, vocabulary went down - sounds plausible. Then theres the research about book time going up and vocabulary going up as well. Not hard to work it out. Way too many parents use screens as babysitters instead of talking with them, mentoring them, and doing things that will help grow their minds - and their vocabs. Is your kid coming home from school, dumping their bag, the spending the rest of their time playing computer games or on social media? If parents wonder why their 18 year old has the language level of a primary school kid - which they probably do if they dont know what trivial means, then the first place to find the answer is the mirror - go look in it.

+25−0

Agreed. All those people who squawk fake news, biased news and biased opinions seem to be completely oblivious to the blindingly obvious - Trumps image as nutcase-in-chief largely comes from his very own words and actions. Just take a look at the crazy, unhinged paranoia that appears in his tweets. The stuff he was tweeting about the election was utterly nuts. God help America (because no one else will).

Im not bothered about a quota system, if we need more Maori doctors then I can see the point, but i think it would be better to target those who have potential but have come from limited backgrounds where reaching your potential is harder. Those kids with just as much talent and smarts who havent quite got the grades because of personal circumstances. A wealthy tv celebrity who has all privileges and power is not the sort I would like to see funded. I wonder if a Maori kid from a pohara whanau missed out because the place went to a rich celeb?

Indeed. My grandfather fought in WWII and killed German soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, yet afterwards showed deep respect for those that had been his enemies and commented positively on German Generals, especially the one who was his biggest foe and gave him the most trouble. He respected good soldiers and good commanders, no matter the side they were on, and, equally, criticised weaknesses, no matter which side. Hence, my grandfather was a widely respected man himself. Some lessons there for a few people perhaps.

+26−4

Indeed. Have worked as a health professional in the US and generally agree. They have a system made by the rich, for the rich. A two tier system in which the poor live in a kind of fundamentalist capitalism and the rich benefit from the largesse of the State. The treatment of anyone poor or brown is disgusting, I worked on a reservation, which I challenge anyone here who is singing the praises of any US president or admin, to go and do.

If you have an infectious illness, please stay away from others as much as you can. At home is a good option for that. Dont soldier on and run around given a bunch of other people your bugs. The woman who went on holiday to Bermuda, no problem, was probably a good idea if she was genuinely suffering stress etc, the problem was probably not b r ing honest about it.

Ah, the American craze of a gazillion toilets. From having spent a lot of time working in the US, its a much more hierarchical society than we have, and anything that can be sold to social climbers as moving them up the ladder is instantly grabbed at. Yes indeed, people with five toilets look down on those who have three, those who have three look down on those who have one, etc. If you have ten toilets, youre up there; twenty and youre probably alongside God. There was some appalling comment by Ellen Degeneres that those who have only one toilet are truly little people, she flicks property on the side and was singing the praises of over-toiletting. Im guessing it was started by bathroom hardware companies wanting to expand their market. The whole thing is a bit of a con, getting people to reach into their pockets for stuff they dont need, in order to impress other people. Id much rather have a studio, a library/study, a sun room (old fashioned and great) and an office - than use that space for dumb stuff that gives me no benefit - like extra toilets. And yeah, I have two with no plans to increase.

Interesting words chosen in this article. The impression I get is that its written by someone who puts a lot of store in superficial traits and what other people think, which is what most of what this article is about, and very little into anything meaningful. Note that theres a complaint about some assumption that good looking mean are unexceptional in other areas, which may be the case in some cultures but I doubt its as prevalent as what is implied - plenty of good looking, smart men around. However, having made that complaint, there is not one word about said boyfriends brains or personality - just some odd phrase about his brain having the same level of stupid crazy fun output as her own - so, once again, using herself as a measuring stick and making herself the centre. Just sounds like is someone who constantly measures people, using themselves as the comparison, which is bound to lead to insecurity and fault-finding. Note the comment on low days in which she is haunted by what other people have said, and then takes it a step further to catastrophising and inventing negative scenarios. Then we have the being watchful about constant double-takes- thats an admission to constantly scanning the environment for other peoples reactions, and then interpreting them negatively. None of which is a healthy way to be.

+18−1

I dont really believe that you live in the US if youre pointing out mindless crimes and prostitutes etc. I have worked in numerous places across the country as a health professional and seen plenty. So how is it that you have failed to notice how truly stuffed up it is over there. One place I worked in, the homeless, mostly war vets, elderly and the mentally Ill, would freeze to death over winter. Did anyone care? No. They just picked up the corpses after the spring thaw and carried on regardless. I challenge you, work on the Reservations for 6 months and get up close and personal with Americas apartheid, the kids dying from preventable diseases, the govt still plundering their resources etc etc. After that, lets see if you think the place s so amazing.

+15−0

Well, yes. Great examples of confirmation bias - taking two pieces of unrelated information and conflating them in such a way as to fit an pre-existing viewpoint. The guy in the article actually talks about human and natural climate change. I dont recall anyone talking about climate change and pretending that there had never been any natural cycles, but you can see how this information was been changed in peoples minds to suit their own view. Quite interesting stuff really. If you get a preponderance of thumbs-down I think it would be reasonable to speculate that those with confirmation bias do not like it when the possibility is raised and the knee-jerk reaction is to retaliate to the threat to their egos - the good ol thumbs down in this case.

Crikey, I have stumbled into another dimension, where people parrot stuff off internet forums, much of it stats that they clearly dont actually understand, and use that to - well, who knows. This Obama, Clinton vs Trump thing is getting crazy, really, deeply nuts. I dont think Ive ever seen so much raving and ranting about others. The Dems, the Press, Obama, Clinton, Socialists, Marxists, the media bla bla bla, on and on. I think the human race is devolving.

This is what I dont understand: The number of people claiming that Trump tells it like it is when he appears to blurt a near continuous stream of lies. He just lied again, this time about record unemployment rates, yet we have comments, again, that Trump tells it like it is. In what alternative world does someone who blatantly lies get lauded as a truth-teller. Crikey, I swear the human race is devolving.

Exactly, I own a business and its far exceeding my expectations. I don;t ask what the Govt can do for me, nor wait for it to happen, I plan for the times, make sure I market my niche products well, stay ahead in terms of technology and the changing workplace, contract good people in when I need to and pay them well, and Im extremely well for what I thought would be a little part time business when I started it some years ago.

Because he suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder, theres more than enough coverage of his language, behaviour and collateral information to diagnose him. Hes a text book case, and a sever one at that. And yes, I am a health professional, and I am aware that the APA got all politically worried and said diagnosis without interview is unethical. But, in this case, when the evidence is so overwhelming, and the risk is so high, well, why not.

Exactly our strategy, first summer after 18 months old, wed let them run around outside with no pants on, present them with a potty on the lawn, explain about it, if there was an older sibling wanting to give a demo then that would get added in too. After that we gave them lots to drink. Wed wait for some output and run up with the potty and get them to sit on it. Worked like a charm and all were toilet trained in a matter of days. As for night, took a bit longer but eventually got there. The most important thing is that they learn to recognise the symptoms of needing to go and if they are running around outside and can actually see what happens, it gives them a better chance to learn about how their bodies work and the cues they need to recognise. Peeing into a disposable nappy just doesnt do that.

What, you;re doing the cows a favour by taking the calves off them because they get uncomfortable? Taking a calf away has nothing at all do do with the prevention of mastitis and everything to do with economics. It costs more in resources to share a cows milk with her calf, and thats the bottom line. Too hard to do, much easier and more profitable to get take away the calves, send the unwanted ones for slaughter, keep the rest. The ones that go for slaughter can, and do, arrive at the works in terrible condition. The blatant disingenuousness of the article is quite astounding. When I was a kid we had house cows and never took the calves away, just shared the milk with them. Modern dairy herds are bred to over-produce milk so more profit is made, so again, its economics. Getting really tired of this weird charm-offensive by the dairy industry. Guys, just be honest, its about profit, and trying to dress profit-driven practices as animal welfare is a shocker.

My understanding was that the rocket comment was a joke? Good on Elon, he has a few detractors, but the guy has fired my kids imaginations and got them aiming for careers in science & technology - Artificial intelligence, coding, robotics, alternative enegry systems. Theyre not out getting up to mischief, some of the older kids peers are out on Saturdays drinking beer to doing FA, my boys are watching SpaceX launches, building wind turbines, writing software and making robots with their mates. Elon made being a tech nerd cool and dreaming about a better future something to aspire to and be proud of. Onya mate.

Heres a definition of poltical correctness:the avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated againstSo, in effect you are saying that Trump is supportive of excluding, marginalising and insulting groups of people who are socially disadvantaged of discriminated against. I would agree with you on that point but dont see it as something to aspire to, who would? But I suspect you mean a more Trumpian (invented) definition, that means tells it like it is. Which is also interesting, as his record of compulsive lying would indicate that he is a person who is utterly incompetent when it comes to telling it how it is. and, no, the evil media didnt tell me, I heard the lies from his own mouth, many times over.

+17−5

Just what people said would happen has happened, Kim played Trump for a fool in order to get the pressure taken off and manipulate the situation - a tactic that North Korea has employed over and over again, for three generations of leaders. Kims father and grandfather both used the same type of tactic on occasion. It goes like this, play up, get some pressure, play up a bit more, get more pressure, play up some more, get even more pressure. Have some talks, appear to capitulate, stop or downgrade playing up (for the moment), and make noises like you have been keeping agreement that you in fact had no intention of keeping in the first place. Its a way of engineering a seeming status quo. Kim would have been well aware that Trumps narcissism would have blinded him to this little game and Trump got played all the way. No surprises there.

+16−5

Something that Trump is completely unwilling to face is that the jobs are going anyway. The rise in robotics and AI, along with alternative energy that is cheaper and for many people can be generated at home instead of having to pay someone for it, will change the face of our fossil-fuel and energy-provider dependent economies. The jobs will go and the infrastructure with it. There will be mass unemployment and those hit hardest will be those whose jobs can be easily replaced by technology - factory workers, labouring jobs and the jobs that are relatively unskilled. Yet what does the Orange One do? Instead of doing his best to prepare for the upcoming change he just pretends its not happening, instead pointing to economic markers that are being fuelled by what is probably the highest debt in the history of the world. The jobs are going and energy infrastructure will change radically, prepare for it, or better still, lead it, or be prepared for the collapse of the US economy. Its that simple.

+14−3

Yeah the extended warranty thing is a rip off. Last time a salesperson tried to sell me one I told him straight up that I am covered by the cga and why should I buy something that is mine by right anyway. Refusing to replace an item that was bought on sale is another sneaky trick. Happened to a friend of mine who bought clothing on sale then took it back for a refund when the colour ran in a matter of weeks. She went back, quoted the cga, and got her refund.

Unfortunately, people who dont actually know about containers pretend that they do, then claim that it is others that know nothing. How do you think refrigerated food is transported and/or food being shipped is kept at certain temperatures and humidity for optimum food storage? Ill help you here, in a highly insulated container with climate control, including vents.

+12−2

The bald fact is that Trump, who, to his supporters tells it like it is has just shown us all, again, that in fact, he does not. He also either doesnt understand what then standard unemployment rate figure in the USA actually measures, of he simply doesnt care. To cut a long story short, the particular stat that he uses, the U-3, cannot be used to measure how the American worker is doing. The U-3 is the one that presidents like to boast about but its neither accurate nor reliable, the reason why they use it is that it gives the lowest rate. It does not count the proportion of workers who want a job but dont have one, nor does it differentiate between working for one hour and working for 40 hours/week. By this logic, if I fire my one staff member and hire 40 unemployed people for one hour each at slave labour rates, Ive created 39 jobs, and so on. That aside, my biggest concern is the possibility that changing demographics and work styles could be having a significant impact on the final stat but the way it is calculated means there is no adjustment for this. Id like to see a well-written article with some adjusted stats and comparisons with the other US employment measures.

Why not stand up, or in this case, sit down, for something you believe in. I couldnt give a fig if people sit down for the national anthem, thats their choice and theyre entitled to it. This girl may be a future leader as it takes strength to say no to something. Id be quite happy to get rid of anthems all together, theyre a relic of a bygone age and now seem to be becoming synonymous with people being forced into a show of unity and the crushing of ideological dissent, bound up in a weird sort of logic in which not standing for an anthem somehow equals disrespect for your country, your fellow citizens, war dead, and so on. Im happy for people to protest and I dont care if thats how they want to do it, dissent is healthy, as are critiques of out society and politics. Everyone has that right, whether I like their opinions or not.

If people find that they relate to Serena, then Id be willing to bet that a good proportion of them have been manipulated by her out burst. By hooking people in with emotive buzz words shes essentially manipulating people to identify with her in an attempt to shift the blame for her behaviour. Once they have been emotionally activated then the logic part of their brain gets bypassed and nekminit raving about sexism. Notice supporters have serious cases of whataboutism going on. If you have to drag mcenroe into this, youre clutching at straws. Fact is, shes a professional, she earns millions, she knows the rules, she knew exactly what would happen if she broke the rules, and made the choice to make further violations, which means that she chose the result. No sympathy.

Im quite happy with targetting gang-related crime. Interesting that were seeing the some do more harm than others comments in the article. They all do harm, thats just the basic fact. In my line of work (health) I see all sorts, including gang members, and I get a window into their lives. There is a huge amount ot Meth being pushed out by gangs and this is devastating communities and ripping apart families. Our first wave of meth babies are hitting the prison system now - in severes cases, and there are many, they are born with permanent brain damage that essentially consigns them to a life of prison and acute mental health units. Many are not diagnosed until they get lucky enough to meet a mental health professional who is highly familiar with such cases - usually from the USA. many gang members themselves have sever conditions relating to past abuse - usually suffered because dad was a gang member, and signs of in-utero brain damage from drugs and alcohol is not uncommon. Women are treated worse than dogs and I dont care what PR rubbish gang members say to try and cover that up - they are often viewed as property, and have no real say in their lives. Hence beatings, rapes and living in conditions in which the man is constantly in control. Whilst poverty is a key factor, I think Tam is missing the boat somewhat blamingp overty entirely. Addiction drives much of the P- associated crime, and poverty is also an effect of P. Get poor, get desperate, see the stuff to others to feed your habit. Sure, we see it in areas of poverty but we also see plenty of it amongst the wealthy.

America isnt better than this, this is a part of America that has always been there, just sometime it has been more obvious than others. Children born to African slaves, Indian Residential schools, etc etc. This is the reality, where hatred, racism and fear override empathy and compassion for children. Saying America is better than this simply underlines the strange phenomena of US citizens turning a blind to what is going on in their own country.

Yes, that amazes me still. A man who lies compulsively and dithers and prevaricates is, apparently, telling it like it is. Id like Trump supporters to explain how it is that someone who tells it how it is lies almost constantly. If he were really telling it how it is, there would be no lies.

Good one on the cell phone ban. Really irritating to go to a concert and be surrounded by a forest of arms that are waving cell phones. Why? To get a picture and sound that is way worse than what anyone could find on the net? Very few would want to see or hear somebodys bad video of a concert jammed onto a Facebook page, and Im pretty sure no one want to stand behind the idiot at the concert who thinks that wasting their time waving their phone in the air to produce something no one cares about is actually a good idea.

Good on them. I think people have forgotten that for most of human history and in most places, people havent lived in big houses, they have lived in buildings or temporary dwellings with small floor areas. People have become so conditioned to whats normal that many cannot conceive of living in what seems a small space. They have two containers side by side, so there will be some privacy and the climate helps with outdoor living areas. The kids will be more likely to be fit, healthy and resilient, they will build tolerance and social skills through interaction and the personal and group responsibility that comes through group living, plus the benefits of creative free play, problem solving, and environmental competence from spending time outdoors. On this same website theres an article on todays kids being much less fit, and fatter, than their parents a generation ago. We also see a lot about rising rates of anxiety and depression. Im aware that this is not the message that some people want to hear as people tend to defend their lifestyles and the thought that sitting around in a huge house with kids permanently attached to screens might be detrimental wont be welcome. One the face of it, however, I see nothing wrong with the this type of living arrangement and much that could be positive. Good one.

Surprised me they were having such a fit about Russians meddling in the elections when the USA has been a chronic meddler for Soma years. Have you been on those funny websites again DaveMurphy? Obama most certainly never pardoned Chelsea Manning, not did she ever ask to be pardoned. Who exactly is this left (small L) who hated her? I was over there at the time and 1, some people did hate her, but they didnt appear to be anything like this nebulous left that youre talking about - they were a diverse group from different backgrounds etc as far as I could tell. But I guess that ruins the bogeyman type approach to a lot of things these days - the classic psychologically manipulative technique of claiming a diverse, heterogeneous group is in in fact a co-ordinated, homegeneous one with a central ideology.

Being a serious researchers demands a bit more than a Masters in Medical Anthropology. Im wondering about your actual research background as serious researchers I know would not consider reading articles as doing research. I am surmising this from your comment that you have researched those very deeply, more than most doctors have. Youre a researcher if you do the actual research, not if you sit around reading or talking about it, thats called a review. Most doctors are not researchers, so Im not sure why youre saying youve researched this more than most doctors as I would not expect someone like a GP to be on a research team, why would they? Whats deep research? Again, if you were really a researcher, you wouldnt be making those claims either as they make no sense. I also see that you do not have a researchers understanding of the immune system - comments like work hard to fortify my immune system is from pop-medicine and is a socio-cultural viewpoint. Most Westerners have a cultural view of the immune system as being like an army that fights off invaders and use words to those effect, the the idea that if your army is strong enough, you dont get sick, which is not actually how it all works. In other words, I think youre talking yourself up to appear much more of an expert than you actually are.

So, everyone is an immigrant? What is the relevance ?

Ha ha ha yeah..... imagine hundreds of thousands streaming in and completely overwhelming the population. However, the USA has over 320 million so 4k is nothing and they are very well eqipped to deal with them. The majority of illegals in the USA come in legally and just dont go home. I also feel sorry for the kids - exposing an 8 year old to their parents sexual problems isnt healthy and speaks of a lack of boundaries with your kids. All in all, I dont think things are anywhere near as rosy as what youre saying, just the vibe I get from your post.

Great article and really nice explanation of the Dynamics of male retirement. Not that this doesnt happen to women but men, especially of the older generation, tend to suffer from greater isolation as their networks and social culture have often been different, which can make them more vulnerable at retirement. We need more of this type of thing to help and support our older folks. Great story.

Seems very short sighted and old-fashioned to to teach girls basic skills in the area. Aside from job opportunities, some building knowledge and associated tool skills are very useful life skills to have, and contribute to resilience in adulthood. One wonders if the school has the old-fashioned view that these girls will grow up to be taken care of by men and therefore dont need those kind of skills. I wasnt aware that its still 1950 in Southland.

Another one. Who Manafort was working with at the time is not the issue, the article even says straight out that Manaforts charges dont directly implicate Trump. Nobody is saying that Manaforts guilty charges have anything to do with Trump as far as I can see, so why are you pretending otherwise?

If Donald is saying this sort of thing, it indicates that he has no understanding of the calculations involved and hasnt bothered to school himself up on it. There are perfectly reasonable explanations for the discrepancy which, if hed looked into it, he would know. In other words, hes incredibly ignorant for someone at that level of power, but instead of seeing information he doesnt understand and then educating himself in order to improve (like a normal, sane person), he launches into a crazy, paranoid rant that blames others. The reason he doesnt understand the issue (the number discrepancy etc), is apparently, because other people (his enemies) are making up lies to make him look bad. Thats straight our nuts. Last two people I saw with this level of us/them paranoia, they were being evaluated for admission into a mental health unit. God save the USA.

I do believe he greatly popularised the term fake news. Problem is, a lot of his supporters. and possibly Trump himself, dont know what the term fake actually means and apply the term incorrectly. I would say that Trump is the origin of the popularised term and also the person who twisted the meaning to suit his own ends.

4000 is clearly a lie, you mean you actually believe that there are exactly 4000 people? Id be willing to bet big that the 4000 is an invented number made to sound big and scary. When people exaggerate they choose large numbers with a lot of zeros and fail to reference things like an estimated high and low, and given the unlikelihood of an exact count, that would be important. I say its a big bluff.

Well, yeah, but nobody is doing this out of the goodness of their heart. Its not foreign aid we are talking about here, its profit, and if NZ dairy wasnt going to those places, some other form of food would. After all, just look at the huge food surpluses carried by some countries, a proportion of which goes in foreign aid.

I see yet another reporter, this one an apparently senior political reporter, who doesnt know how to honestly report a poll. Mate, please learn this skill, before people start squawking the polls were wrong when some predicted polling doesnt eventuate. Lets start with the very simple: There is no evidence that the Greens are up one, one is less than the margin of error so we have no real evidence that the Greens have moved at all, they could easily be a couple of percent down. NZF is not steady, we have no way of knowing that the real number of voters has stayed the same against the Greens, again, we have no actual reliable evidence for that claim. I could go on but someone else can point out the other errors in this report.

I looked at it and thought crass and cringey but each to their own. I note the guy said something about looking to overseas trends, which is code for cultural cringe. Personally I think its time we stopped looking to other countries for aspiration, its not the 1800s anymore, but I guess some still want to be anything but kiwi. The parents in the pic look like theyre about to get a divorce, given the forced smiles and body language. Weidly enough when I looked at the pic it seems like some drama where dads on the booze and mums anxious but lets hide it all for the rellies. Theres something oddly off about the whole thing.

Why is it there are better answers in the column than in the article, which has some blurby-feel-good, generic stuff rather than getting to the obvious basics of the situation. Im with the crowd on this one. Bottom line is shes really not into him and Id be inclined to bet she doesnt really want to marry him, either. Loves sex but doesnt want to have sex with partner. Well, what does that say, really? Maybe someone who is too carried away in a teenage fairy tale of romantic love, amazing sex and marriage to admit to themselves that its not working out? My advice, take a break, travel, experience life for a bit, live another ten years or so before getting into a knot over your partner, your sex life, etc etc, or, preferably not at all. Just accept who you are and how you want to be and grow from there.

1. No, its not a margin of error, thats a completely different type of calculation and nothing to do with the estimates given here. 2. Deaths due to a phenomenon are calculated in different ways, a common problem is under counting due to poor classification. For example, someone who died by having their house collapse on them being counted whilst someone who died a week later from treatable sepsis who was unable to make it to a clinic. If you read the article, it indicates that the doctors who counted the deaths failed to include less direct means of dying and that there were categorisation problems. It doesnt state the calculation method but I presume it was a matter of re-classification which would have been done by international standards, possibly alongside an excess death calculation, which is tricky because it requires reliable baseline data, but possible. So, no, I dont look at those numbers and wonder, no raised eyebrows here.

Given Kashoggis connections there is even less reason for the USA to protest. He interviewed Osama during the years that the USA supported Osama because he was anti USSR. Kashoggi is also close to the Saudi royal family so he is likely to have had knowledge of any links between them and Osama before the twin towers attack and may know more about what happened afterwards and the failure of the usa admin to get tough with the Saudis at that time. Not a conspiracy theory, just something worth wondering about.

Indeed. I do think that if it wasnt Trump it would have been some other similar type. The US had been heading this way for a long time. Not sure why, but for some reason large swathes of the population seem to be incredibly susceptible to jingoism and being manipulated into polarised good vs bad or two sides type thinking. Have spent a lot of time there and have US relatives and I completely agree . youll hear people mian about say communism, socialism, etc yet when you ask them what those things are, it becomes apparent they have no clue. Same with MSM, the Left, the Right, fascism, capitalism, totally no clue.

Camsauce, are you meaning free tertiary health care? If so, you do realize that if the US govt made health care free and paid for everything they would actually be paying less? The problem being the US health system is the worst in the developed world, so bad that if they gave everything for free it would be cheaper. Just in case you are having trouble with the maths.

Lets cut through the psychobable about being vulnerable bla bla, theres little good quality evidence to suggest this is an effective strategy and Id call is a cultural myth - and like many myths, it has its uses as a basis for engaging with a problem, but theres no real truth in it per se. It comes down to this, if you really want him, try to work it out, but ask yourself if youd be willing to go through this again. If not, leave, and find someone who can keep his pants on and will treat you with respect. 20 months is a long time to be shagging around, so my advice is to leave and upgrade. Dont listen to the latest Americanisms around making yourself vulnerable and similar blurb, use your smarts and talk to him straight up about whats going on. Id be willing to bet he hasnt told the whole truth. Id also check him out to see if he sounds like has a personality disorder, read up on cluster B especially. If any of those sound like him, run, there is no hope.

Well, shes American, and it is a mental illness because it meets the criteria for a mental illness. That is, disturbances in thought, emotion and behaviour that impact significantly on someones ability to function. The reason for changing it was because people got upset when told they had a mental illness and lobbied hard for PTSD to be called something because of all the cultural beliefs about the term mental illness, and some health professionals agreed, primarily because they wanted people to come in for treatment and not feel stigmatised which in turn lead to a whole lot of convoluted reasoning about re-naming and a red-herring in the form of calling it a biological injury because, supposedly, people would imagine that they can heal from a biological injury and not a disorder, which isnt 1, and the idea that mental illnesses cant stem from biological injuries, which is also not 1.
