Its a Christmas catalogue whether its tongue in cheek or a bit cheesy who cares, its a Christmas catalogue. Just let Ballantynes catalogue their Christmas goods how they want to who cares really. Dont be so analytical and sensitive.
Oh, the horror and outrage!
How sad we have gotten to the stage of having to just knock absolutely everthing to make news. Who cares if it doesnt represent NZ across the board - neither do Ballantynes. I used to walk in one door and out the other when I lived in Christchurch (not to shop, but to cut the corner - too expensive for me.) A large majority would not even do that! And surely, from one end of NZ to the other we dont need to sit in judgement on Ballantynes - their customers will tell them if they are unhappy. I do suspect that the pictures may more accurately represent their customers however, and NZ could certainly use a bit more class than the over weight, top doesnt meet bottom scruffy examples to be seen round most national malls these days. That should have us calling for a bucket!
Its the lack of socks that upsets me more than anything else.
If this is all we have to worry about we are doing ok.
Ballantynes target market is rick folk, so this cover is perfect. leave the jandals and BBQ to The Warehouse catalogue.
Well, bless my little cotton socks - or not - the chattering classes are OUTRAGED, again. Its a catalogue cover for goodness sake. The Ballantynes demographic will either get it or not. If you are not the Ballantynes demographic who cares what you think about it. I can see the Facebook Servers overheating as they attempt to carry the load of this new horror. Ballantynes will be thrilled at the publicity.
white and elitist we cant have dem white folks in advertisement now!
Believe it or not but in NZ there are actually white couples who are above average in looks with children whom dress up on occasions such as Christmas...... this makes the news??!!
Cant wait for the next edition - a detailed investigation on how The Warehouse has embraced diversity in their catalogue!
We received the catalogue in the mail. Good luck, fella, youre getting socks for Xmas! I was a bit Hmmmmn over the little girl wearing lipstick, but hey, its Xmas. (Camels and all that). Not really us! I do think Ballantynes are great. They have survived some very trying times and have kept their marvellous quality of service and products. Without them Christchurch central city would be a wasteland. Why isnt there an article about the Briscoes lady wearing fake hair and polyester clothing in primary colours. Who, apart from Polly and Esther, would aspire to that? So many people seem to have been conditioned to think Briscoes is the benchmark.
To all those concerned about his sweaty feet in leather shoes, lets just assume hes wearing shoe liners, that way we can all sleep easy :-)
This is the age of complaints.
How DARE they feature items they sell on the cover of their catalogue. Actually the only thing I have an issue with is no socks. Sweaty bare feet in leather shoes is gross...
Well I put on a frock for Xmas day. Why the frock not? Its a special day! I certainly dont wear a $700 ensemble but whatevs!
The biggest crime in this photo is the lack of socks. Who wears a suit with no socks?
It seems that some journalists and a great number of people on social media could do with some larger thoughts. This is as interesting as daytime tv. Do get a life.
Shouldnt be a surprise. They are Christians after all - thats clear from the TV ads as Xmas comes around. Stands to reason the cover will be kind of wholesome. No big deal.
Hilarious! Hes not wearing socks because he knows his kids will give him some new ones to match his tie as all neat, well-behaved nuclear children did in the 1950s. Hell put them on when his wife brings him his slippers and 5 oclock martini.
Its also very old fashioned to have a nativity display, Im pleased that Ballentynes still does it.A business that isnt afraid or ashamed to utter the word Jesus at Christmas time.Im not a Christian..
