three families want this to happen....thats 12 million each family....and what about the families who dont want this to happen???it was and still is a tragic event..but what is 36m going to prove??the decision is purely political and labour knows it cannot back out now...in short - it will throw money at it regardless of the consequences which is sad for the rest of the country.

firstly...a baseless accusation about otganised trolling...talk about wild conspiracies - that in itself is shameful stuffthen came the whole more for kiwis in 1 yr than national in 9 seriously?? i invite you to name 1 thing that hasnt caused more damage than good for the country.also...Labour doesnt want justice...it wants to save face. they made wild accusations and bold promises - now it has to deliver. they will throw money at this until such point that even you would think ridiculous....and thats while they tell teachers and nurses that there isnt any more money. unbelievable!oh and...i didnt vote labour.....seriously???

this comment crops up on every single political article...the blue brigade and young nats are out in force etc etc. if you call anyone who supports national the blue brigade...then you better believe we are out in force.by now surely you realise that people are just sick of this govt?? or are you in denial that anyone could dislike the colition muppets?

you clearly dont get out and about much....or you live in your own little insupar world.the greatest coalition in the world?? really? its definitely not the worst in the world...but to say its the best is slightly delusional and far fetched

+35−10

oh yes...you have to be right, because it couldnt possibly be that the govt is doing a bad job! honestly - conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory because you dont like what someone says about the govt. the fact is - people out there dont like this shambles.

+28−7

how do you think they got to be a property invester? by sitting on their backside all their life?No - the majority of them would have started out as the humble worker or at least have had to work hard to get to where they are.

+18−0

you have clearly never owned a business. you cant even appreciate the difficulties that occur on a daily basis. as a business owner you are responsible for the livelihoods of all your staff...one bad policy could endanger 1 or more jobs. let alone not knowing whats coming. thats enough to get anyone nervous. clarity from the govt would end this whole argument. if there is a tax hike coming...tell us what it is and get on with it. if there are changes to the employment laws...just make it clear. business may not like it but at least they will know and can get on with it. govt has an obligation to lay out its agenda clearly and precisely. instead we get working groups who will report back who knows when, and ministers who flip flop on a daily basis

question time is a chance for the opposition to hold ministers/govt to account. take the curran saga for instance. proved to be rather effective in that case.secondly - they dont make decisions based on question time. the real decisions are made behind the scenes and then debated in the house AFTER question time. if you watch those debates you fall asleep from boredom pretty quick - because believe it or not its the same people actually debating real things that shape the laws of this country...and mostly without insults or yelling across the house.

its not all just about the family home....what about the small business that you decide to start up. pour all your effort and time into it for years to get it growing and then sell for a profit (goodwill asset)?would you be willing to pay tax on that? because that is a capital gain.

+16−0

dont kid yourself that labour would not do the same. nick smith and collins got slammed by labour in the house over the scandals they were involved in. and one was only sending a letter on a ministerial letterhead. either way...it is not good enough for ministers to be sloppy in their activities...who uses a gmail address for business anyway...let alone government business

if what you say is correct about national being rudderless (and thats a big if) it means that Labour is even worse than we thought. by your rudderless comment you are saying there isnt an effective opposition in the beehive....and yet Labour is making mistake after mistake and fighting fires within their own ranks on a more frequent basis....and that must mean they have no idea on how to run a govt! they are useless!!!

+14−0

its doing bad. but it takes time for a govt to start having an impact so up until recently it has been still riding on the policies of national. labour are undermining these every day with confused statements and flip flops and bad policy...and that is the reason business confidence is down and the economy is slowing

+12−2

nice try. look - you labour supporters are saying that the nats and their supporters are struggling to accept that they lost the election. if that is the case then i would say labour and its supporters are stuggling to accept that they won.labour are in govt and therefore they are the focus of attention...so suck it up and move on or get out of the way. no anount of trying to deflect with nationals issues is going to alter the scrutiny on labour.you wanted it....you got it.

+14−4

how are the ethical and moral questions going to be answered by walking in as far as the rockfall?? or do you think we should keep throwing money at it until they can walk right in to the end of the mine...you have to draw a line somewhere...and that should have been 23million ago.

Andrew and hero in the same sentence....wow...never thought i would ever see that. (and never thought i would have to)he wasnt a hero...either way he was going to lose the leadership he decided to do it before the election to hand the can to someone else to sort out. dont try and tell me he knew Jacinda could win it when he handed over to her. he was just saving himself from humiliation

+12−4

on one hand the labour supporters say its early days....give them a chance to get going....cant fix everything in one year...and then they go and post a comment like this - claiming credit for growing the economy etc. come off it.you cant have it both ways.

+18−10

the same thing passed thru my mind. but who cares. it is any prime ministers role to represent NZ in all different ways. JK did it well (although a little awkward at times) and JA probably will as well...along with pretty awkward moments...they are afterall politicians not comedians so its a bit of a big ask to expect them to fit into any role that comes along.i guess we will have to wait and see.

+14−6

i agree and disagree...if national perfected the what i can say phrase, i would say this current govt is equally sucessful in changing that to what i will say followed by a heap of verbal BS.i sort of agree on the speaker. never liked parker but mallard isnt too bad considering.

+10−3

bury the truth....please explain? do you know something the rest of us dont?? you have no idea what is down there so forget the hand wringing and self righteous anger and focus on just how much this thing is costing. the 29 men are tragically dead but nothing is going to change that fact. nothing is going to be gained by spending all this money...it is the wish of only a few of the affected families and a political party that cannot back down because they made so much of it in opposition.

+9−3

i dont like the current mob in power but seriously....not everything that happens in politics is a conspiracy. dont make baseless claims...just wait for it to play out.to me it looks like one guy spitting the dummy over not getting promoted and is determined to cause as much damage as possible on his way out as revenge.

+18−12

exactly...so what will all the families do if that is the case? realise that it was their loved ones that helped this tragedy to happen? that should be a comfort to them...not.just leave the whole place alone.

+7−1

another shallow statement with no example or fact to back it up. put your money where your mouth is and provide some substance to your comments.and no - i dont care if you think national did nothing in 9 years...but at least back up your viewpoint with some reasons to help the debate.

+8−2

not a good comparison sorry...charge out rates for servicemen are their wages + holiday pay + acc levies + kiwi saver + sick leave + fuel + phone bills + asset depreciation etc etc combined. if they have got anything left over after paying tax its only a small amount. so wages vs. charge out rates are like comparing apples and oranges.

+4−0

stable and sucessful....almost choked when i read that. im yet to see sucess from this bunch....and how many ministers have been removed in this first year?? hardly stable

+11−8

no you dont have it right. this only shows the members who are not ministers. the article states this in its opening paragraphs.ministers usually spend a whole lot more due to their portfolio responsibilities. this spending will be reported soon i think.

+3−0

yeah...that would turn them into slums in no time...why on earth would you renevate or spend any money on it at all if you were only going to get the same amount back?the whole policy and idea around these homes is a waste of time. a select few get houses at a price that is below market rates. then they can do whatever they want...very poorly thought through. it could have been good but clearly while in opposition they didnt really get past coming up with the name they would call it

+6−3

most small businesses...you must have been busy doing some polling of your own? or more likely you are making a massively exaggerated claim to justify your opinion...which is the most likely reason for your claim. not everyone thinks like you. i am a small business owner that wishes national were in power...but they arent and i am still carrying on because i have to, to make a living...its just getting a bit harder to be positive and have certainty to make future plans and investments because i dont know whats coming from this govt.

+12−10

yes...anyone could have posted surpluses in the period that clarke was PM. it was the best time for business and living in recent history. then it tumbled down. try and find another country who came out of the recession as well as NZ did. you will struggle...and thats because JK and Bill English had a good plan that worked!

+19−20

so spitting the dummy over a promotion and being bent on causing as much damage as possible as you are kicked out gives you credence?i mean...he has only just learnt what bridges is really like? cant of been as close to him in the past as he says he was. but now hes been denied something he wants...bridges is the bad guy etc etc. sounds like a guy in american politicsnot convinced of bridges being the opposition leader myself so far, but what did JLR expect after going rogue?
