Teachers do work far too hard but much of it is churn. Time to stop the interminable meetings, the constant assessing, the constant reviewing of the curriculum, and get on with teaching.

The real problem in schools are the students who dont want to learn, those with ayou cant tell me what to do attitude, and those who are seriously disruptive. The teacher has no choice but to put up with such students to the detriment of everyone else.
No job security, no house, no way to save even if you wanted to, rising rest home fees, and constant scare tactics from some economic groups. Its enough to drive a man/woman to drink.
I filed a final tax return for my wife after she died. A year later letters addressed to her from the IRD started to arrive demanding she file another return. When eventually I rang the IRD they wanted to speak to my wife. I said, look at her file, you will see there is a problem. Oh, sorry and they hung up. It left me very shaken.
How about teaching. Our schools are dominated by female teachers. There is obviously a bias against males in that sector. We need more male teachers in our schools.
Its a question of priorities. I saw figures recently for the construction of 1 km of motorway. Mind boggling. Its time we became a more humane society and focussed more on people and their needs.

I dont think that is relevant. Look at all the armed conflicts America has been involved with as they seem to dominate and control the world. The money they spend on the military is obscene and they are by far the biggest exporter or arms in the world. The Saudi Arabia deal is an example.
So 1. The Square was once the centre of City Life and where the buses went. All the remodellings costing huge sums of money were disasters. The central City was dying long before the earthquakes. Perhaps the concept of a city centre is no longer relevant.
