More solar energy hits the earth in an hour than people use in a year. Sunlight that hits the desert does nothing for photosynthesis, and at the scale of a solar panel, or even a solar farm, does nothing to change temperatures. So the vast majority of solar radiation that hits the earth is unused by anything, and by intercepting it with solar panels we would not be taking it away from something else.

Did you take into account only tests that Barret started in? If he was replacing Carter in 70th minite he would have a lower scoring average. Also, ones where he started as primary goalkicker would give a clearer view of which player has highest points per game.

But the buses arent full, so the double decker buses also wont be full. More buses means more frequent service, so taking the bus is more reliable. That will allow some people to change, and take the bus more often, taking cars off the road. Buses dont cause congestion, single occupancy cars cause congestion.

The magnitude of the earthquake is not the event they are referring to. It is the way the earthquake ruptured so many faults, and moved between faults up to 22km apart. Also, return periods are not a guarantee that there will be that amount of time, but that is the average time between events as the number of events approaches infinity. It is a probabilistic measure, not a reflection of reality. Similar to how a coin flip is 50% heads, 50% tails. Doesnt mean that if you do two flips you will get one heads one tails.

You are allowed to enter the intersection to wait to turn right. A yellow light means stop at the limit line unless it is unsafe to do so. It is clearly unsafe to back up behind the limit line again, so once you are in the intersection, provided you entered on green, you are entitled to exit on yellow. The problem is people entering the intersection on yellow when they had time to stop, or even entering on red.

They can park their bikes wherever they want and lock them up. Then they can walk into the city, or bike if its a bit further. For across town travel they can get to the bus interchange. And if they need a car for something, they can hire one of the 100 share electric cars the city has. If they dont need the car while they are gone, they can take an uber instead. Now they dont need to pay up front for a lump of metal that will sit doing nothing for the majority of the time, paying for petrol, maintenance, service, wof, rego, insurance. A central city doesnt need cars.

Have you seen what central city parking prices are in Auckland or Wellington? Can be $20 for early bird parking. Christchurch has $12 all day parking in brand new multilevel parking buildings, which provide almost 3000 parks

Considering the street is only proposed to be closed for 60m, between the ANZ Centre Car park and Hereford Street, I dont think it will have much effect on access for people with disabilities. You will still be able to access the area via Hereford Street, and can still go up Colombo a little past Cashel Street. Effectively, access is not restricted for people trying to get into the area, but movement through the area is restricted. Luckily, there are some great one way streets to the east and west for anyone wanting to move right through the city centre for whatever reason. Colombo Street will be freed of congestion, allowing buses to move more easily for those who cannot drive. The whole street will become more attractive for pedestrians, because as far as I know none of the shops are drive through.

Street races = too fast for conditions. Running from cops = too fast for conditions, and possibly other ones such as failed to give way, wrong lane, suddenly braked or turned

How often do you get a new flat screen tv? These are for first/last mile connections, where the bus doesnt quite get you there, or you couldnt park right in front of the store. You grab one of these and zip along the final piece of your journey. These are not designed to replace cars, but to supplement them so you dont need a car for every journey you take

Never said anything about sightseeing. The drive itself is more interesting. Also, not everyone travels alone, it is good for passengers to get good views and not be bored in the car. Drivers are also able to stop and look at the view on the scenic route, cant be done on SH1 since there is no view!

You may want to read the very clear law again, as it doesnt seem clear enough to you! From Road User Rule 2004, a driver cannot pass or attempt to pass a MOTOR VEHICLE OR ANIMAL-DRAWN VEHICLE where the no passing line is marked. A cyclist is not a motor vehicle or animal-drawn vehicle, and therefore can be passed by crossing no passing lines.2.9Â Passing where roadway marked with no-passing line(1)This clause applies if a driver is at or approaching a portion of a roadway where the road controlling authority has, in accordance with any enactment, marked a no-passing line applying to traffic moving in the direction in which the driver is moving.(2)The driver must not pass or attempt to pass a motor vehicle or an animal-drawn vehicle moving in the same direction within the length of roadway on which the no-passing line is marked until the driver reaches the further end of the no-passing line, unless throughout the passing movement the driver keeps the vehicle wholly to the left of the no-passing line.

@Lupin S here is the definition of a moped as per the Land Transport Act 1998. Note where is says other than a power-assisted pedal cycle.moped means a motor vehicle (other than a power-assisted pedal cycle) that has—(a)2 or 3 wheels; and(b)a maximum speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour; and(c)either—(i)an engine cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cc; or(ii)a power source other than a piston engine

And houses far from the city centre rule out people who only have a bike. Central city apartments rule out people who own horses. Some people are happy to not have a car, those that want a car can choose a different property to buy
