You cant make people believe something they dont want to believe. Its the same as telling people that there isnt enough room in a city for everyone to bring a car. It does not matter if you are right people mostly believe what they want to be 1.

I suspect we are just going to build a smaller version of Auckland that shuts earlier. Since we are soon to waste more than half a billion building a stadium that isnt even the only one on the island. 500m could build Christchurch world class participation sport venues that would be the best of their type in the southern hemisphere... but instead we build what unimaganitive old people would have liked when they were young.

Yes they are, and we should be looking after motorcyclists too. Putting in cheesewire and crash barriers without a low rail so that they increase injury to bike riders is even against NZTA guidelines (although NZTA just ignore this).

I would suggest that CAP should do the following 1. Make sure they have at least 1 MTB rider on the board (not someone who just has an MTB in the shed, someone who can ride all the trails they have). 2. Keep the locals on side as they are the people who will sell the place to potential visitors (by offering decent priced passes for casual users and hassling CCC to build or allow building of a decent link trail AKA chore boy) 3. Force the issue on planting - get trees planted at least along the trail edges (ideally natives with long harvest intervals so they dont have to do this again in 20 yrs).

So to confirm. The footpath was destroyed/closed due to rockfall risk and the funding to replace it is 16 years after the event? This means that anyone in a wheelchair or pushing a pram is unable to access sumner without a motor vehicle. Pretty bad show if you ask me. Surprised the government are happy with NZTA /ccc s response to this.

Frying pan... if you think chritchurch has a crime problem then you should try living in a real city. I have lived here 10 years and I havent even known one person that has been hospitalized or murdered in a theft or street attack. Living in the UK it was not like that.

Call them tiny towns fill them with tiny houses and people will flock to them rather than expecting to see Ricky and Bubbles.

In fairness I believe that he was asking for more money to spend on water supply and waste water, but the council was choosing to spend it on other things (stadiums, car parks etc). Its useful to understand how funding works in local govt. Basically diffrent departments put together lists of projects and operational costs, then the people we elect decide which ones get more money, less money or no money.

As much as i think that being stoned DEFINETLY impaires the ability to drive safely, I also think that using emotive examples is bad practice. I dont know anything about the case in question but I do know people crash for lots of reasons, and there must be a reason sober kiwis crash more than sober irish people.

Looks great. In happy that they were allowed to use original colours on the building. I hope the rules in lyttelton are changed so that people are allowed to do that in lyttelton too (rather than being restricted to someones idea of what heritage colours should be).

Obviously the solution to freedom camping problems is to provide somewhere to camp that has had another way to take their money.. just like free parking at malls. Tell them its free then charge them extra for something else, like everyone who goes to a mall they will be unlikely to notice :)
