Second night of 'mosh pit' crowds at Christchurch light festival spark complaints

Why not keep it open later, until say midnight, that way families can go through in the first half of the evening, and adults only can go through after 9pm.

Isnt the obvious thing to keep it open until 10 so that everybody isnt trying to see all at once?

Crowds on a balmy night are to be expected. I expect the rest of the nights to be better managed. But a many only have themselves to blame.Doing dumb things like: Drivers queueing all the way back up Rolleston Ave and Park Terrace, hoping for a park to magically appear. Really? Lots of people and car = No parks down there!!! But: there are lots of (shock/horror) Parking Buildings (1st hour free on Lichfield)!

Then you need buses in your area that operate.

The problem here isnt how the event is set up but instead rude horrible people with no concern for anyone but themselves. Go to a different country and people will be more respectful and wait. Hell the Japanese would stay and clean up the event afterwards. Its sad that this is the behaviour we display, its down right embarrassing

Sad to see so many people walking straight past the donation boxes for the Hospice at the entrance. Have a heart and give something - a gold coin is not even a cup of coffee

Or how about having it on for couple of weeks instead of only 5 nights.

Dont you get tired of beating the same drum. You comment the same thing every time chch has an event that people attend. I get it you believe that waimak and Selwyn people should pay there share for events in your city. I would like to thank you for having your rates put on a free light show for me and my family. Of course you are welcome to come and visit our lovely pool or parks at Rolleston.

Why does it close so early?

We went Thursday night with our son. We were there at 6pm. It was busy but everyone was quite friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Will go next year.

Lol what a horrid comment. Having said that Im a parent of one of those brats and must concede, youre probably right.

Shouldve gone straight after work at 5:30pm like we did with two kids under five. We waltzed through leisurely and were home by 7:30pm.

Must be a damned good show to attract crowds like that. Obviously a huge effort by many to put it together then you get the half dozen moan if their bum was on fire idiots and the nasties who try to spoil it. Im sick of idiots in this country.

This reminds me of the Wellington Lux Light Festival, real cool stuff and highly successful, they run it from 6pm to 10pm daily for 2 weeks and as crowds have been growing throughout the years its spread from the waterfront to the southern side of the CBD. Implementing later end times and spreading it out can also help here.

Why isnt it on for a week ?

People of nz complaining about a problem they were a part of? Yeah right.

we went tonight (Saturday) .... queued for about half an hour, once inside everything ran smoothly, very impressed with the organisation and the lighting, well be back

we went with miss 7yr old but despite arriving early we thought before 7pm...no chance of getting in without standing in the lengthy ques formed both ways for over an hour with one impatient missy. So checked out the Art Centre and then home. Miss 7yr would not have seen much among the crowd. Needs to be during school holidays, for the 2 weeks and longer opening hours...

Whatever!!! We paid $25 for 2 adults and 3 kids to get in to this event, paid for parking, bought dinner in the city and even filled up with gas before going back home to Rolleston!!What a sad little attitude you have. We dont rely on your rates but contribute to your economy.

We actually walked past some too as we donated at the arts centre. There were lots of donation boxes everywhere not just at the entrance! I saw most people donate.
