One day the time MAY come that oil and coal are no longer needed BUT it wont be any time soon,so why does this government and others think its fine to just throw a whole lot of New Zealanders out of work and not able to support their families, this needs to be done slowly and at the same time they need to have ACTUAL replacements for these industries not just pipe dreams. We cant all work an office in a city somewhere, some of us are real workers doing the grunt work that keeps our economy going, all of you who believe oil,gas and coal are on the way out anytime soon are just naive and not in the real world,if you think its expensive to live now you aint seen nothing yet, wait till you have a 500 dollar power each month.

So much for for the government that was going to help the regions instead we are going back wards, the coal from this mine was not for burning to make steel it was high quality coal to manufacture high value products.Funny how Eugine Sage never mentions the 270.000 ton of low quality imported coal to use at Huntly power station each year so bloody Aucklanders can keep your air conditioners going.850.000 hectares of land locked up on the coast that the Government doesnt pay rates on and we cant even step foot on 12 of it to provide jobs.COALITION LOSERS.

yes the climate is changing but its been doing this since day dot, some decades the sea takes and some it puts back its a cycle and governments around the world including ours are using climate change as a money grab introducing things like emission trading schemes and the like,BUT if this government are so concerned about rising sea levels on the west coast why are they proposing to build a brand new hospital that is suppose to service the Buller for the next fifty to eighty years on the flood plains of the Westport township.not all of us have been sucked in by the labor/greens scare mongering.

wideawake what you know, have you been to stockton,i have been involved in the rehab there and i could bet that you would not tell the difference between the rehabed area to the natural areas so unless you know dont comment. And by the the way all mining companies are required by law to pay a bond to pay for the cost of rehab in case they try to wriggle out, no tax payers are forking out for it at all.this government are not environmentalists they are extremists, not all west coasters voted for labour i think you will find that most of their votes came from the cities.and yes we coasters have wanted a road to collingwood for fifty years to help with the so called tourist boom but do you really think sage will let that happen,so what options do we have for expanding employment.....none, that is why we are still employed in l industries like mining and because the word still needs our coal and if any of you think coal is dead think again it is on the increase.

i am a coaster and a miner and have often thought what the point of only going to the rockfall is, may be there will be a couple of other miners further down the drift may be there wont, 36 million sounds like a lot of money but its only about 8 dollars per person in New Zealand so not really breaking the the bank is it.If it had been 29 people in a high rise building in the middle of a city somewhere instead a hole in the ground on the west coast i bet this would have been sorted the next day.its the very least we as New Zealanders should be willing to do for the families.
