Yes, we all suffer thanks to a minority of the US electorate voting for the dishonest, offensive, inadequate and vain Trump. Trump is by any reasonable measure a poor president. His loyal supporters are even worse. You have to be dim not to see through his shtick. Those who can see through it and still support are just plain vile.

Ruining how? There is a pushback alright but it is not against political correctness but against progress. the alt right is a bunch of inadequates who long for a past where they had status thanks to skin colour and gender. Their pushback is against stopping the scales being tipped in their favour. Pushback is a bit polite though, more like petulant tantrum.

but Australia has a shoddy history for those without fair skin. Fairness and equality have been in short supply. And as a recent speech by a senator demonstrates, racists are still there and feeling emboldened. Good on this 9yo for having principles.

thing with polling is if you give a cautious prediction that turns out right, nobody really notices. give a wild prediction that turns out wrong and again, no one pays much attention. But give a wild prediction that comes close with an occasional unexpected outcome (dumb luck as some may call it), and some will laud you as a polling genius regardless of the actual confidence that can be put on your work.

Thanks to the stability provided by the previous administration (that itself inherited a dumpster fire). Take away Trumps vendettas, trade wars, flip flops - the economy would be even better.

population growth is a very easy problem to solve - healthcare and womens reproductive rights, already have a excellent track record wherever they have been tried. most population growth is currently due to the increased life expectancy, a factor that will soon level off. decrease in family size and older age of women when having their first child have already felled the long term population growth issue.Dull as it is, the answer is in mundane tech that we already have such as wind turbines, trains and energy efficiency. apocalyptic population claims are much more exciting but much less relevant.

slightly more voted to leave than voted to stay, vote leave campaigned on lies, xenophobic scaremongering and meaningless slogans like take back control (particularly irksome when brexiters are desperate to deny any input into what sort of brexit we have). Also it was the 2nd referendum, the first one being to stay in. So what is wrong with best of three eh? And this time, now that everyone knows what a custom union is, the choice could be a little more informed.

you ignore the savings to the grid from increasing embedded generation. Also, externalities. Keeping your head in the sand and pretending that there is no need to consider the links between the economics of climate change and power generation has not been helpful so far, and will only get worse.

gusphase, no one was seeking to replace any group of people. A bunch of some white males terms equal rights as them being replaced. Anyone who views a level playing field as wrong because they would loose an advantage is a petulant waste of space. I am a white male, do you think I should live in a society where I live with a default privilege thanks to my sex and skin tone? I dont, personally I would think that was pathetic, much like I regard the Unite the Right marchers with their demand to retain privilege, 30s far right iconography, nativism, paternalism and conspiracy theories.

hard working families the egregious ozzy pollster flogged that line to the UK tories too. Hard working families have kids and so should welcome efforts not to bequeath them climate change and a degraded future. When they were in power the Nats did seem quite blasé about hard working families being throttled by rocketing house prices/rent. Bit more important than the declining attractiveness of running a V8.

its not really lefties though is it. the majority of tory MPs were remain, now feeling the consequences of decades of dishonestly blaming foreigners, ably assisted by rags like the Daily Mail and Sun. trouble is that the whole country has to carry the consequences too. Eurosceptics spent decades demanding a 2nd referendum after losing the first. after winning the 2nd on a fraudulent basis, they are desperate for no further democratic input, insisting that just the word leave steers the countrys future. They are like Mugabe, willing to cripple their own country if it serves their own political elevation.

getting cheaper, reduced maintenance, cheap to run, reduced CO2, reduced air pollution, reduced noise, easy to drive. Already viable for urban delivery use and advantage will grow as batteries continue to fall in price and diesel exhaust emission regs tighten.

Hatoyama - simple, just reuse them in static applications where weight and size are no longer prime considerations, eg grid stability modules at substations. So plenty of valuable use after your (pessimistic?) duration, and can be recycled into new batteries after that.

the claims of genetic physical attributes for sports are just as overblown as those for IQ. Jamaica produces great sprinters because sprinting is a national sporting obsession, just as Rugby is in NZ. fixation on a superficial characteristic like skin tone probably says more about the IQ of those making the claims.

The problem is hotels turning away 17yo customers because they are not yet 18yo. Although airline staff advising on the best part of the terminal to wait in is not a great look (and it could have been a place for them to sit and wait rather than bed down) turning kids away from accommodation because they are not old enough is worse.
