DOC Mahaanui district operations manager Andy Thompson said DOC was shocked to hear of the death of the two kea, which was unintended and deeply concerning. Bottom line is that the birds were OLD and were in GOOD HEALTH with their LONG TIME CARERS. DOC visits with their SLEDGE HAMMER attitude and the TWO birds are dead within 24 hours. They will not be getting near the couple of Kea that my family has (in the South Island), picked up as chicks with NO obvious parents, 10 years ago. Raised by hand, in a cage in the house lounge initially . After a year or two they were like your domestic cat, but with more freedom that allowed to come and go as they wished! Summer, they disappear for weeks at a time. WINTER - more than happy to live on top of the cage in the lounge, and provided with food and warmth. AND with a high up CAT DOOR in a wall that the learnt to open from both sides within a few weeks of first coming into the house - even in Winter, they come and go as THEY wish.

8pm !! Try midnight to 3am !! 85% on the people on the street would NOT pass the old drink driving limit, let alone the new one. And in fact 50% would be triple the old drink/drive - and where have they been drinking - I dont think that there are any bowling clubs in Courtney Place, last time I checked.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the difference between a ROOF and no roof was $9,000,000 (yes ( million dollars). TOOOOOO much the councils said !! And how many LARGE shows by-pass Wellington because the promoters will NOT take a chance on the weather - SUMMER OR WINTER ??

My grandfather was in the area (Fiordland) the after the first world war - after surviving both Gallipoli (first) and then France, he went bush at the bottom of the South Island when he came back to NZ - for some quite time as he put it, for a number of years! In later life he always maintained that there were a few moose in the back of beyond in Fiordland, but never had a camera so no proof. Likewise he also claimed that the so called extinct takahe - in the 1920s - were still alive - and what happened in the 1950/60s - they were re-discovered. Like many servicemen from WW1, he came back to NZ with life long problems that were never accepted then. Today its a totally different story!

Sorry, I am a landlord. The current governments demands on landlords are such that with some of my rentals in my portfolio it is more cost effective to leave a property EMPTY, rather than have them tenanted. CAPITAL GAIN - (ah yes - NO CGT yet) provides a greater return than having the property rented AFTER paying the governments demands for upgrades and R &M etc. In one case a property purchased 29 years ago has produced an average $23,350 increase in rateable value every year since. Why rent a property out when the capital gain, covers the holding costs, without tenant demands, especially if your property portiflo is big enough to suck it up.

Dont haveproblem with this proposal â“ CURRANT situation is - YOUNG COUPLE â“ with qualifications- from somewhere gets NZ RESIDENCY visas for a couple of jobs that NZ residents can do BUT dont get the jobs, - the next move is to get their MUMS &DADS into NZ. In general, after five years they get NZ SUPER- SORRY, NEVER WORKED IN NZ, PAID NO TAX IN NZ and probable have SUBSTANTIAL overseas funds ----- WHY should the NZ taxpayers pay NZ Super to people that have been here 5 years. !!!

Yes for a few weeks of the year, even for its owners, its a case of be very careful !! It will have a natural instinct that will cause it to be somewhat unfriendly to its human owners- especially if gets the smell of female deer on adjacent farmsHOWEVER for the rest of the year, a hand reared stag will be VERY happy to be treated as a family pet and will walk up to almost any human that looks like or may be potentially offering special food bits - been there - got the tee-shirt. Simple answer - catch the P _ _ KS that did the TAME stag in, and stick them in a paddock with a few NOT so friendly stags...................

SO, the UNI got $28 MILLION for a HUGE basically flat space in Karori - that they got GIFTED !!!What do you think that the same space and MOST of the current buildings will be worth after Ryman Healthcare has spent $15-20 million converting it into a old peoples hostel !! Once the conversation is done - I will put a valve of $750,000 million to ONE BILLION on the property !! Watch the space.!!! AND yes, Ryman are masters at minimal spend, maximum return !! Just look at their financial results over the past 2-3 years. SUCKING the money out of the AGED population !! (AND its not just Ryman).Being currently involved in placing an elderly family member into such a facility, I doubt that the general public have ANY IDEA what these retirement homes charge. While I at this point will not name names, one south Auckland facility with over a 1,000 residents charges OVER $6,000 a month !!! There are others that are well less that that $$$ number, but the ones that do all the advertising and offer the world are up at that number - YES $6,000 a month = $72,000 a YEAR. for a room and three meals a day with some support services !!!!!

$250,00 of RATEPAYER money TOTALLY WAISTED!! OH, the council clowns say it was $141,000. BS - that is their so called what we spent cost - what about the UN-ACCOUNTED for council staff time and expenses?? YES, having worked for the WCC, I can tell you that the hidden costs of these sorts of ideas double, if not triple the published costs.

Yes, if look at the LONG shifts that were published on STUFF last week, MANY of them were -SCHEDULED to be just short of 14 hours, by a few minutes ! In the real world traffic delays, etc, will result in 14 hour plus, actual working hours on a regular basis. The simple fact is that many drivers are being scheduled to work shifts, that on a regular basis WILL go beyond 14 hours. AND it is the DRIVER that gets the traffic offence notice/fines/demerit points. NOT the company !! OH, the driver does have an out - at 14 hours, stop the bus & park it, tell the passengers that as his 14 hours are up, he is NOT driving any further - its against the traffic laws, call the company and tell them that he is not prepared to drive against the traffic laws and that they need to provide: 1. another bus for the passengers, and/or 2. a driver to collect the bus.

SO if these groups a planning so called peaceful protests, Police will not be necessary !! And what form will these peaceful protests take - blocking law abiding citizens from entering the venues ?? AND getting nasty when law abiding citizens demand their right to enter the venue.OH SORRY, if I want to go to an event that is open to the public - by ticket - then as a law abiding citizen I demand my right to do so, and any so called peaceful protesters that try to stop me they should be arrested public disorder !!

Hansen said it was simply a case of police wanting to apply the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 in a more robust manner and ensure that each club was meeting their requirements as a provider of alcohol. So what they seem to be admitting that they have NOT been doing their job over the past 6 years ?????When ALL of the clubs would have had their licences renewed at least once and in most cases TWICE!!!Did Parliament change the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act Act between 2012 and 2018 - somehow I think NOT.

NO, I am NOT angry. I am just pointing out the facts. If you, by the time that you reach 65-70-75 have not got $5,000 - $6,000 a month available for your retirement/care you have a problem if you cannot look after and care for yourself !! There are MANY in this country that can, BUT there are a huge number of older members of society that DONT. (My family member has the funds, BUT is totally shocked by the costs of moving into one of these great advertised retirement facilities)

Been there seen it all over the last 40 years !! Why are there NO snapper of any reasonable size on the east coast between the Hauraki Gulf and East Cape ?? Because the current fishing regulations allow trawlers, of all sizers into the shallow coastal waters !! I dont have a problem with the SMALL local fisher that has been working the inshore are for 30-40 years., BUT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE LARGE commercial boats that sweep in, HOOVER up all the legal size fish in the nets AND DUMP the undersize fish that they get in their nets. And yes, BEEN THERE AND SEEN IT ALL. I now have a GO PRO with me when I go fishing. Trawler operators beware - I will give the film to the MEDIA - MPI are useless.

Sorry, but did I miss something?? Roadside dumping will become the norm ! Just DONt dump anything that has your name on/in it. OH and I dont do it - a trip to the tip every six months is enough for me. AND watch the roadside rubbish skips get filled up OVERNIGHT.AND finally the roadside dumpers will cost the Council more to clean it up, than the Council would have got the dumpers to pay to actually use the tip!!

An unresolved question remains about the future of almost 1000ha of land called the Riversdale Flats, which was included in the pastoral lease by mistake in 1901, when it was set aside for inclusion in a national park.Sheppard said: Land Information New Zealand has been working with the Department of Conservation, and will meet Mr Travniceks representatives on Friday to begin discussions about Riversdale Flats. Simple really, a OIO CONDITION for approval of the sale the sale of the leases by the current owner to Mr Travnicek, should have been the return of the Riversdale Flats to the Crown for inclusion in the DOC estate. The current owner will have known that the Riversdale Flats have been in dispute for a considerable number of years, and while he had use of the land, so long as he owned the lease, any sale of his leases should have EXCLUDED the Riversdale Flats

WELL, WELL, WELL - I still just use the paper system, and keep a copy of what I send them!! (Never give IRD any document without keeping a copy). Seems to work for me !!Oh, I got a letter from IRD last week telling me that I had to lodge my return by 7th July. !??!?!?!I received my REFUND CHEQUE for the last year, three weeks ago!!! Did I miss something, somewhere ??

WELL, well, WELL ! The whole area sits on a BIG volcanic fault zone !! The real bit must be what created Lake Taupo - answer one BIG little blow out from underneath......... ! YES some thousands of years ago - BUT the whole area is still a HOT volcanic area. AND when is the next little pop going to occur ??? NOBODY KNOWS!!Perhaps the odd rattle is a good thing, perhaps the odd rattle is a sign of a BIG BANG to come - NOBODY KNOWS .Just like living in AUCKLAND - something like 30 PLUS so called extinct volcanoes in the area - QUESTION - which one is going to POP in the next 50 /100 / 200 / 1000 years ? And lets get real, experience shows that sooner or later, IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN - ONE DAY

+28−8

I will put in simple terms - it appars that there has been some VERY questionable deals done, on paper or otherwise surrounding the whole development!!! And given the current circumstances, from a public perspective, the BIG question MUST be HOW did it get to the point, that its a done deal without any public knowledge/ input of the development !! - With Wellington RATEPAYERS lined up for $20 million PLUS of costs that in ANY other development in the city, the developer would have to pay!!Seems to me that the Wellington ratepayers are about to get SCREWED --- AGAIN !!

USUAL STORY from EQC and Insurance companies - DELAY, DELAY DELAY, and hope they will go away !! SORRY for the couple - BUT its just the usual story DELAY, DELAY and DELAY, and they will GO AWAY.SHOCKING that this can happen to people that have paid house insurance for 20 -30- 40 years and when they THINK they are covered - they find out that they are NOT.

WELL< WELL, WELL !! this article seems to sum up the current situation in NZ 100%. Set up a company, trade for a while, GO BUST, and the directors then set up another company, that goes BUST. TWO different companies, yes, but the SAME or associated directors for each company !!!Its about time that the COMPANY LAW in NZ was updated so that a company director of a company that goes BELLY up owing MILLIONS, cannot start/register another company, without the debts of his (her) first company being completely PAID. The current company structure in NZ for companies with a couple of directors is such that they can be FOLDED today, and the SAME directors can have a NEW company running BEFORE the MESS for the old one is cleaned up.

Simple really, the Government needs to BAN the sale of milk in the wax covered cardboard boxes. While I am not a greenie !!! I do appreciate the problems created by packaging that manufactures are supplying, to produce producers using the wax covered boxes - and milk is NOT the only use - and the supermarkets that are selling products that are in packaging that CANNOT be recycled IN NEW ZEALAND !! Simple answer, if the packaging is NOT recyclable in NZ, then it should be NOT BE USED in NZ - BY LAW !! Likewise, imported products should be subject to the same conditions !! Packaging not able to be recycled in NZ - we dont want it !!

+21−3

You are joking - I hope! Nobody in the WCC will be held accountable for the waste of $250,000 of rate payer money! OH yes the Council says $141,000, the real truth is its almost double that - with costs HIDDEN within OTHER areas of the Council.

+20−2

Have to agree! And the cost of the equipement seems to be OVER THE TOP !! If we have problem with the COSTS of providing the large quantities of the basic equipment needed in NZ hospitals, I suggest that it could be MASS produced in suitable workshops, in the NZ prison system --- YES the NZ prison system where desks/chairs etc, etc, for the public service were made back in the 1940/50/60s And yes I will say PAY the productive prisoners a reasonable wage when there are working (not a couple of dollars a day) - YES make them aware of the fact that they are actually worth something and give them skills that might get them a job when they get out. There a TWO types of prisoners - those that are first timers and NEVER want to come back - so educate them with skills so they DONT come back and the OTHERS that will be back time and time again !! And its not to hard to sort them out Its all about the prisoners ATTITUDE !!! Some dont care less, BUT some will do anything get out ASAP and NEVER come back. ITS NOT HARD to ID both types very quickly (if you have worked in a prison) and the I dont want to be here and I dont want to come back are very obvious from the day they arrive!!

Actually the simple bit should be NO logging trucks on the road between Wairoa and Napier, unless the truck and its load originates less than two thirds of the distance between the to towns. Otherwise truck the logs to Wairoa and use the rail.

SORRY folks, did you really think that the hill at Titahi Bay was going to stay as a green space after the radio masts were dropped - check the ownership. It was just a matter of time before the land was sold off to the highest bidder. If you have never been up to the top of the hill where the masts were, then you do not appreciate the REAL value of the land. From the top 360 degree views = multi million DOLLARS for developers. The bottom line is that, that particular bit of dirt is potentially the MOST expensive bit or real estate in the Wellington region (other than the top of Mt Crawford). If its sold on the open market - with NO restrictions - it will be multi-millions and the resulting development WILL be a gated development - think not - take a copy of this post - and see what happens in the next 10-15 years !!

Tend to agree ! Something is being flushed out from beneath the road ! Rotting tree roots that are collapsing ? What is the sub-surface soil “ CLAY ?? So its rotting roots & soft clay, being flushed out from under the road, once a bit of rain water gets in. OH has the council tested the (wastewater) and STORM water pipes under the road? Are they leaking water every time it rains.

SORRY, if you think that Mike and Kate have made mega dollars killing, then you are TOTALLY out of touch with property market in NZ. Yes the SIMPLE numbers indicate that they have made a few $$$ - BUT - BUT - BUT - dont forget the MORTGAGE/INTEREST payments over their ownership of the property - and I have NO knowledge their personal circumstances as to the property. The simple fact is, even if they had HALF the original cost of the property on a mortgage, their REAL CASH PROFIT, is well LESS than what you might think.Try getting into the property market and see what the REAL figures are !!

SORRY, about bloody time. They are offered a salary to do a job ! They accept the salary - get on with the job. NO performance bonuses needed, in fact if they are not doing the job as expected - you are fired. And remember its NOT the CEO that actually does the work. Its the minions at the bottom.

+17−4

NOTHING - their business model is take the water, bottle it, EXPORT it at COST from NZ, and then MAKE THE PROFIT in CHINA - NO tax paid in NZ on the PROFIT in China !! And there are now DOZENS of China owned business operating in NZ that use the SAME BUSINESS MODEL. Produce the product in NZ, export it at COST (= no profit in NZ = NO TAX) and sell it overseas via tax haven companies, and pay NO tax anywhere.

SORRY, but what was the original intention of the polytechs ? To provide intensive block course TRADE training for apprentices!! What has it morphed into ?? A we can give you a qualification for ANYTHING !!!! And the FOREIGN students have become very very aware that the diploma after 12 months and $15-25,000 is NOT worth the paper its printed on !!
