The scenario you talk about here is such a typical one. I am outraged at the attitude of this tax group. so many bach owners are just your average hard working kiwis who have kept the bach in their families with absolutely no monetary benefit, in fact they are usually costly to keep. I bought a bach years ago when my parents both died. It is not the sort of house that someone would live in permanently. I bought it for the holidays we could have as a family and also in a way as a memory of my parents who always dreamt of having a holiday home. All its done is cost us money but weve had so many wonderful holidays there. So now we are deemed to be wealthy and greedy in Labours eyes and must pay for it...This attitude of tax the rich, give to the poor is no inducement for people to grow their businesses, which in turn provides jobs and more income which generates more taxes (sorry Im on another rant not just about baches here).

I saw a huge new development out in the middle of nowhere when staying with a friend on the Sunshine Coast. All the houses had water tanks to catch rainwater- I think to use for bathrooms etc, not sure whether for drinking, buit still, this absolutely should be a requirement when building these days, along with double glazing, and probably solar water a great idea too.

I was born in the 60s when evry 2nd girl was called Susan, or so it seemed. At high school 4 Susans sat in the back row of our maths class. At uni Id invariably hear someone call out Sue as I walked across campus; usually calling one of the other many Sues. It didnt traumatise me for life ffs!!!! And Esmee is a beautiful name!

Please if you can do anything to help your Grandson gain confidence so he isnt the sort of kid who gets bullied, it would be awesome- my kids were bullied to an extent, they werent confident enough to cope/ deflect it. My niece was bullied, moved schools, was bullied, and so on. Im not blaming the vicitims AT aLL but some kids would really benefit from some help with confidence so they dont attract bullies. Im trying to be helpful and constructive here, as I say my kids were bullied probably because they were sweet natured types. Look for a kidpower course or similar.

Why? I have a rental with those extras - admittedly in there when I bought it, but if I had to add insulation and heat I would NOT be putting rent up because my priority would be to have a warm healthy house for my tenants. Not their problem if the house didnt have insulation, they should have it there without question- or extra cost. BTW my tenant moved to my place because her kid kept getting sick in her old rental and she told me that they have been totally healthy this winter now they are in a warm house. You will get your money back eventually when you sell your house and its gone up in value. Why make tenants pay for you putting your house into a liveable state?? I bet your own home is insulated without the Government authorising you to do so.

A whole lot of this wasnt about power. Sponge bath, ewww. You manage to foarge for wood. A lot of cities have clamped down on fires. You scrounge a free coffee once in a while. Sounds like you are expert scroungers. BTW why keep the TV and oven switched on all the time? You could save more!

WHAAAAT? Actually, its the scrimping and saving to be able to pay the deposit on an investment property from HARD WORK and careful spending. Thats how most of the investors have to got to where they are.

So well said, Lyn. Actually in many countries where they have this tax it doesnt work. It can cost as much to run as the tax gained. A number of respected economists whom I have listened to have said it is not a good idea.
