Does anyone know how this works practically? The physical building belongs to the Anglican Church, the minister is and Anglican Minister and is paid by the Anglican church. Are they intending to move their services to the park or a warehouse? Or are they assuming they can just carry on while saying they are separate?

People are willing to give up if there is a chance of saving for a deposit. It even doing without everything except basic food and rent still means it will take 20 years plus to save the deposit it is a bit hard to do especially since the price for the house you are saving for may be double or triple the price by then and you will still be short. Of course many if not most people are not on the living wage - and no it is not just unqualified people doing unskilled jobs.

It seems unlikely in 60s New Zealand that a bunch of people could be shot and no-one notice. Although with computer systems in their infancy (and did you need a passport to go to Aus at that point?) it was a lot easier to disappear. Maybe there was a rash of people who unexpectedly moved to Australia? No point executing someone secretly though so someone would have known and talked at some point.

But life it a lot different now than it was when the people in retirement now when they were in their 20s. And there are still a lot of people who lost money to the compulsory super scheme that was scrapped without anyone getting the money back because it had been absorbed into the general funds.

Perhaps they should but you cant guarantee something wont happen to your savings and the people who are retiring now werent told that. I cant afford to save much so I am trying to pay off my mortgage. Luckily for me i wont be forced to sell and end up with half of what is left because I am not married. if that did happen in my fifties it would be very hard to recover by retirement.

The odd thing is that a poorer person who has saved a deposit and is paying rent that exceeds what their mortgage payments would be is considered a poor risk whereas a high income person who hasnt managed to put any of that high income towards a deposit is somehow seen as a better bet.

I think that should be taught in the context of history and law not religion as well. I think making it opt in is a sensible approach as it makes it something that is though about not just gone along with. There is an opt out for sex education but I would be happy with it also being an opt in. In fact I would be happy with having to approve anything outside basic education which is what the schools should be doing.

They were told that it would be enough. Also you dont know what happened. And even if they spent every spare cent on gambling and beer a compassionate society should have sympathy for anyone reduced to sleeping in a car. I will have sympathy for you if you get too sick to work, get caught up in a scam and lose all your money, get divorced and have to start again or have a mental breakdown and take to roaming the streets talking to yourself. My sympathy wont be much good but it is better than your attitude.

I have had the power cut off instead of the neighbours. I also lived in a flat once where they never did a reading and hadnt for years because the meter was inside and everyone worked and they never tried to arrange a time. Bet the final bill was 1000s but since it had been going on for years it never even occurred to me to try and negotiate a new start point.

I agree that kids need more time outside but I suspect that the kids who live in the most urban, green space deprived kids wont have access and wouldnt be able to afford good enough clothes to take advantage if they did. Those who will have access and are able to afford good clothes are probably getting more than average outdoor experience anyway. That is not to say I disagree with allowing outdoor preschools just that we are talking about making changes for a few children who are probably in least need of different experiences.

There might be fewer kids with regulation problems if the schools went back to single cell classrooms with each kid having their own desk apart from the others, fewer distractions on the walls and round the classes and a stable predictable time table so that the kids knew what to expect and when. I would never have coped in the classes my kids are in and neither do a lot of the kids now. They are set up for sensory overload, hyperactivity, stress and poor concentration.

Well to be fair it is the government via the schools that has set things up in a way that many kids cannot do their homework without the internet. No one asked the parents (at least no one asked me) whether they would prefer the kids came home with a text book or worksheet or better still didnt have homework. If the school/government creates the problem then perhaps they should also solve it. I pay for my own internet by the way as I need it for work.

The show is supposed to reflect everyday life in an extreme manner. Many people do abort babies with such problems and many do not. Most people will have at least one unsolicited opinion in each direction. Many people are ignorant. Since she apparently has not had an abortion at this point so far there is a well meaning father who is worried about his daughter and letting his fear overcome his medical knowledge.

When you have an high IQ kid struggling with known side effects of high IQ and no-one cares because they are not failing it doesnt seem irrelevant. High average IQ, money and work ethic are better predictors of success but that doesnt mean that extremely high IQ kids (and extremely low IQ) dont deserve to get their needs met so they can meet their potential.

What I was thinking. They sent an anonymous letter to all the neighbours handwritten in capital letters. This indicates an older person who read a lot of Enid Blyton at one point, is overly nosy and feels the need to vent. They may or may not be right. HNZ tenants do get bad press but we dont hear about the majority who just get on with being good neighbours. I dont know many people who have HNZ houses though I have met many who could have used one if it were available but couldnt even get on a waiting list.

Since it seems to be proved that total decontamination is not required - the lady reported using sugar soap to everyones horror was probably on the right track. How about at each inspection a test is done. If it shows P then the tenant has a week to take care of it. Scrubbing an washing frantically for a week would be really annoying but not as bad as being evicted.

Which she wont be allowed to do because WINZ will not accept that as a reason to exempt her from her work obligations and wont give her a benefit as she voluntarily left her job. Please advise her not to do this without legal advice and a social worker. I was very lucky that when I had to start homeschooling my son I had the option of a job I can mostly do at home and take my child the other days.

Compared to what? I know people in the science field with degrees who got more working at Bunnings. Countdown pay the living wage which is more that many of those same people get. Yes I live in a place where there are limited options for them but the fact remains that many teachers earn above the average wage which does not equal low pay for the qualifications.

He hasnt really. People who are aiming CEOs and heads of marketing etc are expected to change jobs ever 5 years or so as they progress their career. Most businesses no longer promote solely from within so to move up the ladder it is usually necessary to make sideways and upwards moved between companies.

I am not a teacher or a nurse but what they are doing is expressing their opinions and defending their rights. They are trying to get a pay rise they think they deserve the same as everyone else does. Are they supposed to just be quiet and take what someone else thinks is appropriate?

People have always had kids for the wrong reasons - predominantly that it was expected of them and they couldnt prevent it. The vast majority of people now give it a lot more though and are a lot more prepared though often less well supported and less experienced with children.

That may be 1 but the child needs to be achieving to standard or they will just keep falling behind and lose confidence. They dont need to be years ahead but there is a difference between being average and struggling to make any progress.

Yes. i went into Godfreys once and as soon as I admitted to having asthma it was you must but this one - - You can walk out of here with this super one for the same outlay as that cheap one (and then of course pay huge interest and payment for 3 years). In NZ there is always someone in the extended family or friends group who has asthma. I bought the cheaper on and although it was only good for about a month it did function until recently when I used a tax refund to get a better one - not from Godfreys.

It is a very complicated thing. But if I felt Maori or in the US African American could I as a Pakeha/White woman just declare myself to be one? If I took drugs to change my skin colour etc would that override the fact that I had not suffered the institutional racism throughout my education and early life that Maori and Black Americans do? On the whole I am not sure I really care but it isnt as simple as biology.

Because they dont want to work in a supermarket. They get paid way better than equally qualified people in science etc but it is not a job for everyone. Perhaps we should just keep the pay the same and employ more people? Surely more money doesnt fix the long hours and stress issue whereas a teacher aide in each class or for each modern learning combined class would help with that.

No I know I couldnt do it as I am not designed for it. I do however have equal qualifications and no many people with equal or greater qualifications who do jobs where the result of an error could be death or damage to a multi million dollar industry who will never get near the starting rate of teachers unless they go into management. I also know many people who have had to leave the field the studied for because they knew the pay was never going to improve despite all the talk for years. My point is that as a person with a teaching degree and a few years experience there arent many jobs available to you that will pay anywhere near as well. If you dont like it leave but you will probably have to take a significant pay cut or retrain.

When you get a subsidy it goes directly to an approved provider. The provider is responsible for monitoring and training the carers and the appropriate government agency is responsible for monitoring the agency. It can be a pain because I havent meant any carers who work weekends or evenings and this really limits job opportunities for those most in need of jobs. WINZ requires single parents to get jobs but they cant get assistance with childcare for any jobs that arent between 8.30 and 5.00 when the centres are open. Or if they need to do shift work etc.

Most people I know only heat one or two rooms. When I was flatting you could see your breath in every room but the lounge. It is not that good for the very young, old and unwell. This winter though I am running a heater in our coldest bedroom for an hour or so at bedtime.

They quite likely could feed then when they had them. Redundancies, sickness and divorce happen. Rents go up and up and wages dont so the amount available for food and head gets ever smaller and you have to share with another family to pay the rent and then you have overcrowding problems on top of everything.

A lot of parents with kids with ASD, ADHD etc end up keeping their kids home on days they are tired or grumpy for fear they will end up acting up and getting expelled. This of course means the kids lose a lot of school days and can end up behind or not able to maintain relationships with classmates and teachers. Our children to not choose to be challenging. They behave as well as they can given their abilities and the amount of stress placed on them. A bit more support, smaller classes, calmer classrooms and some understanding would go a long way to preventing many of the behavior problems everyone complains about. Most of us will problem children work very hard to help our children despite every door being slammed in our face when we try to get help, A lot of us end up homeschooling which just makes the problem less visable.

You have to join a union and get other people to join too. Hard work anywhere but from my experience it would be especially hard in construction. There will be a union you can join though if you look hard enough.

Go for it. Only problem is the homeschooling supervision allowance is $742 a year for the first child and drops about $200 a year per child. if they paid the teachers like that they would be getting about $12000 a year for teaching 31 kids. Out of that money you pay for curriculum, sports, art and music, transport and anything else your children need. I do it for one of mine as well as working 30 hours as a solo parent. It is worth it but dont let anyone tell you it is easy. And in case you are wondering Correspondence school costs about 6 times the annual allowance so you will be picking, planning and assessing on your own.

Maybe their budget doesnt stretch to $50 per kid that day. Also they might be going to return the favour on the second strike day or in the holidays. I am going to look after a workmates child for free so she can works as it is a day I am at home anyway. She will probably have one of mine in the holidays so I can work on her non work day.

I do think they have to do more social work than they used to but that should be a separate issue. It would be best solved by providing social workers not paying teachers more to stress themselves out trying to carry out duties they were not trained for. Also the Modern Learning Environments are a lot more stressful for everyone than sitting at your own desk doing your own work so that causes problems our teachers didnt have.

Harmed lots of people though. At high school level though until the 80s only the bright and the driven stayed at school past some time in the fifth form. That was probably a lot easier and more pleasant for the teachers.
