How ignorant is this man. The government invited Trump not the Queen, unfortunately as Head of State she has to entertain him.Thankful her mother more than makes up for the rest of the family.

Pay up and shut up.She was in a moving vehicle.Accidents can happen in car parks. He cant think much of his wife, who may well have only buckled up when she saw the police. On the news today when they were discussing the high road toll for 2018, 100 of them were attributed to not wearing a seat belt. The police were doing their job, enforcing the law.

I accept that there is a problem but why on earth should one feel guilty putting on another layer of clothing. It is the easiest and cheapest means of heating the body.Wear a beanie if possible as a large amount of our body heat is lost from the head. The cost of electricity is too high in this country but the electricity supply can be lost very easily especially during the winter months when the winter weather plays havoc with lines down so do what you would have to do in those circumstances. We havent always had electricity to comfort us and there certainly wasnt any supply where I was born in 1946.

As long as all the children of the marriage/relationship have the same surname. An acquaintance gave her daughters her surname and the sons got the fathers which left the young children trying to explain they were siblings, a totally unfair situation for young children.I know it happens in blended families but one set of parents warrants one surname. It is almost as bad as the parents trying to find an odd/different way of spelling a Christian name which leaves the child having to spell it out for the rest of their lives. Please think of the child and not yourself.

To be in prison a person has committed a crime against society so why shouldnt they lose the liberty of the right to vote. Many prisoners would have used their right to legal aid plus the expectation of a reduced sentence for good behavior so losing the right to vote is a guaranteed part of the sentence. As voting is not compulsory in New Zealand the chances of them using the right to vote before becoming a prisoner may have been marginal and therefore not high on the agenda of loss of freedoms.Voting is a right of freedom regardless of race or religion so please dont make it a Maori issue.

What is the difference to miles after miles of visible power lines providing electricity and a skyline of a few wind turbines. As I flew into Hamilton a few months ago I had a birds eye view of wind turbines which I was told were near Raglan. It was quite an awesome inspiring sight to be seen.I dont know what power capacity is generated by these wind turbines but anything that lessons the destruction of our earth surface whether it be by dam creation or mining to provide power for our needs must surely be beneficial to all.I would have thought that Maori , of all people , would embrace the natural power of the wind . Wind like water is a mighty force.

So if businesses suck it up as instructed it should be covered by a government guarantee of help if they fold because of government policies. It is about time that government acknowledged that it is the businesses that provide the economy for the country , where else does the government of the day get the money from other than taxes which can only be paid if one is earning.

There are still two bodies at the Brunner mine site and my elderly aunt still visits the monument every week and would not like the resting place to be disturbed. This is desecration not an act of closure.

I blame wars on religion and racism on the press.I went to school in the early 50s and was called affectionately a white hori by Maori classmates and my relatives because of the colour of my skin not matching my 1/4 cast status. I have more maori blood in me than a lot today but I was blessed with 1 brown Maori grandparents who insisted all their grandchildren were raised as New Zealanders. There is such a double standard here whereby the great Billy T James could ridicule his own people but if a white person had done the same there would have been a racial uproar. We need another Billy T James to balance this crazy racism.

If the powers that be and so so called penal experts proceed down this road , as a law abiding citizen I want double the police force and the internment of prisoners shipped off shore, perhaps to Singapore, then prospective offenders might think twice.Control the drug an alcohol influence and some progress may be made.At times prison seems like a soft option as to coping in the big wide world.

It may well be 1 but the less subtle display which I think showed more effect was the absence of other senior royals. As Head of State the Queen had no option but to be present but the other royals did.Trumps disrespect of her position and age was obvious, he virtually galloped along the inspection of the guard of honour. His regard for women in general is well known , equalled only by his narcissistic egotism so I dont think he would notice the alleged subtlety which is a shame.

Be more logical if they applied the law in town. Saw a ute at Hornby Mall last week with two loose dogs on the back. The majority of the farming community value their dogs, they are a valuable working partner so they care for them.Put a speed limit on a vehicle with unleashed dogs that covers all vehicles not just the farm ute.Too many country townies having too much say and so little clue about rural life.

The daughter was lucky the police cared and took her home , they could have taken her to the police station and then the parents would have been called in to collect her. Many years ago I was with seven other kids waiting at a rural school bus stop and we knicked some apples. Our parents colluded with the town Bobby and we were taken to the local police station and popped in the jail cell and 70 years later I can still hear the clunk of that door shutting me in for 5 minutes. I can assure you there are eight adults who have never been tempted to see the inside of a jail again.Salutary lessons can sometimes be the best.

A few years back WINZ would not let them move to outer reaches as they could not attend job interviews etc and there was no likelihood of jobs available if they shifted.I dont know if the situation has changed. It makes sense to me that they shift because then WINZ wouldnt be subsidizing high rentals.Dont know why everyone thinks they have to live in Auckland. The cry will be that they need to be near family but it is not always possible my grandfather worked on the railways and my mother and her siblings shifted many times , never knowing a soul but if the job said shift they did, mind you there wasnt a welfare state then so there was little option.

All the bowling clubs I have attended over the years have had a designated bar manager on site, like bridge clubs they bar manager holds a certificate for the role. The police have overstepped the mark here and are back tracking at great speed. They would better serve the public by limiting the volume of alcohol that can be sold for parties in private homes.

I presume all pregnant women are advised by their midwife of the possibility of the necessity of an induction birth. It would just be put forward as a backup plan. The fact she is the Prime minister has nothing to do with it. Babys do what they want to do, she hasnt opted for a pre planned cesarean section, leave her alone to get on with the job of becoming a mother

it was JLR who threw the gauntlet down, determined to cause as much havoc as he could. Unfortunately like most narcissistic people they can throw the mud but not take it.Why should only one of the females be named but give credit to the person in question she obviously respected the brokered deal until someone had to respond. There was no way JLR was going to resign on Friday as he could cause greater embarrassment as an independent. I agree that mental illness should be handled with respect but it cannot be used as an excuse, a factor yes but not an excuse

Take the Haka out of sports.if they are not fired up before they go on the field it is too late. The Haka should be respected and used on official occassions only. If teams put the effort into the game instead of the Haka we could be more successful. It has been reported from the UK and Australia that their teams gain from our Haka, it routes them instead of threatening them.

You try working split shifts. Not much one can do in the split change and it makes a damn long day. Regular workers only have to get to and from work twice in a day but split shifts make it four times and if you are reliant on public transport its all the more long winded. It is not an easy shift

Each member of the DHB responsible for this irresponsible decision should be made to work on site with these poor souls for a full weekend stint to see what is required and not rely on some data that has little revelance to the situation. They need to see what these folks are going through, see the advantage of the help already present instead of sanctimoniously saying that they could end up with a better outcome. Walk a day in their shoes so you can make a semi informed decision. These people need to be housed somewhere, mental health funding will be needed and all that seems obvious at this stage is the funds the DHB is cutting will be needed elsewhere to deal with the same people and encroaching on any progress already made. Its the DHB that needs it head read not the mentally ill patients.

They say never judge a book by its cover, the same applies here blood does not always indicate life threatening injuries. As this was an injury it would have been covered by ACC. Perhaps there is a need for an ACC outpatients which deals with these sort of injuries and leaves the hospital A & Es to deal with real acute cases.

I live about 12 kms away and it has only become a real problem for me, an asthmatic, over the past 4-5 years swith all the expansion and quarry activity post earthquake. It certainly wasnt a problem when I shifted here 21 years ago. The nor westers have always been with us , it is the quarry activity that has altered.

I agree. There are some lights, Lincoln Road / Motorway turn off for example that has a right turning arrow which is not activated. It is hell trying to turn on to the motorway at this point with no other options.I do recall one councillor ? Clearwater, being very adamant anti right turning arrows because it slows the flow of traffic. The right turning arrow Yaldhurst /Russell Road allows 5-6 vehicles to right turn safely and it doesnt seem to hinder the flow of traffic at all.

I dont mind them using it is reparation but it should not influence and reduce the sentence. Victims before the perpetrator. However in the case of the young man with Downs Syndrome it he should have full access to his money.Medical information backs his lifetime span claims and why shouldnt he be allowed to enjoy what most other young people enjoy-travel.His parents would get so much more pleasure watching him see the world than receiving his kiwi saver funds after his death. He spoke so eloquently in his appeal for consideration, surely an exception can be considered. It would almost be a criminal offence if an honest man is denied access and a convicted criminal is given it.

I doubt that a non Maori nurse gets paid more.If there is a pay difference please quote it as proof. A claim of racism over a pay difference is a very emotive suggestion and I strongly suspect the pay difference, if any, is within the Maori organization she is working for and not in the general public domain. Claims of racism are becoming counteractive to racial harmony when they are not backed by comparable figures / facts.

I know young children who speak perfect Polish. Their families came to New Zealand after World War 2 and took the responsibility of keeping their own language alive by using it at home. There was a transit camp in my small rural town for these post war immigrants and as a 7 year old I was proud I could swear in six languages, still can.I do speak Maori because my grandmother taught me at home. Language can be taught at home it does not require compulsion at school. What subject/subjects will be dropped to create the learning time required or do the Greens plan on expanding the school hours to fit it in .

I decided I would be proactive and bought some countdown black reusable bags, got to the checkout with my usual trolley full which included a few trays of meat covered with one layer of gladwrap. These trays were haphazardly plunked in the black bags and the gladwrap pierced. I requested a plastic bag for the meat which was reluctantly given even though they were still supplying free plastic carry bags. Can someone tell me when this system becomes compulsory how am I supposed to protect the packaging of meat products for health reasons if nothing else.

So one can presume the DHB will arrange to rehoming of these chaps seems they know where all the accommodation is.This appears to be an established situation overseeing the care of people who may now have to require further care and attention from the same hospital board who is cutting the funding.Talk about reshuffling the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.

Dont see what his problem is.They do have adult classes, and he obviously can read so he can catch up with all he feels he has missed out on. With todays technology if you dont know something its because you cant be bothered and not because it has been rammed into an unwilling mind. It is more important to understand how an economy benefits all mankind not learning a language that has very limited use here and abroad.I speak and can read Maori to a reasonable standard because my grandmother made sure all her grandchildren could. There should be more emphasis put on learning and understanding kindness to our fellow man and obeying the laws of ones country .

This country will never have a history if we keep changing things for the sake of change. The university is just creating a smoke screen to cover up declining national trends .The universities cry poor and increase the fees yet can afford the immense costs that a change of name incrues. Its not like Telecom /Spark who have a product to sell to cover the costs of the change, no it will be the poor student or the tax payer. The way Wellington City Council throw away their money should be not be regarded as an endorsement but as a publicity stunt.

if the vilified Europeans hadnt arrived on these shores the waring Maoris would have eradicated themselves with their tribal hatred and fighting. I dont imagine the French, Dutch or Portuguese explorers would have been tolerable .The atrocities in the past were committed by a few and racism today us practised by a few.The press need to spend some effort in looking at the positives and not the negatives of living in this beautiful country.New Zealanders should heed the words of the late John Clarke--We Dont Know How Lucky We Are.

Disagree. Her issue is that she contacted them and they have not responded.Management like the accolades of the athletes success but dont know the value of communication. Unfortunately it is not isolated to cycling .If management staff dont have the guts to communicate positively or negatively then they are in the wrong job.How do they bring people through the ranks.Communicate Communicate.

I agree. look at the publicity given to the Invictus Games, many of our gallant participants have got deserved recognition , even Sky came to party with its television cover. Look at Europe the most stable countries are those with a monarchy.Britain ditched to monarchy after the civil war then went to the exiled monarch and asked him to come back to rule, they wanted the stability. The monarchy does serve a purpose even in this modern world and I dont think I would fancy giving up my personal freedom and privacy to live in their goldfish bowl.

If I have got time to spare thats what I do. Its amazing how long they hang on for while I get a few jobs done. I pop back every 15-20 minutes to say I am still looking for the information they want .If I havent I just hang up, trouble is now that some of the calls come through on caller ID as private and I have to answer them in case it the call is from the hospital. When I worked night shift they rang one day and I told them I was asleep and hung up only to have them call back and say I couldnt be as I had answered the phone. I think he got the message that night workers do not like being woken up in the middle of the day very loud and clear.

knowing how many times the had to replace/repair the paved surfaces in this square area , it looks as if they plan to carry on the same way. What is wrong with simplicity and low costs. The pigeons and seagulls will have a field day. Pull down the cathedral and replace it with a large fountain and nice shaded areas and seating. The square went backwards when they banned through traffic in front of the cathedral. It used to be a hub of activity but sadly pedestrian power has made it pedestrian pace. The square needs movement to make it alive not expensive canopies.

The majority of landlords are fair and reasonable but it is their property so their rules. They also will be landlords for a damn sight longer than Twyford will be a M.P. thank god so I think the landlords should control their own property not the government.A relative finally got into a state house last year and part of her Housing NZ contract was No Pets.As a solo mum with two children she was very grateful to get the house and as she said at the time she couldnt afford to have a pet anyway, so it took a lot of pressure off her when the children pleaded for a pet. The government needs to get off the landlords back or do they want to be the sole provider for rental property.

Considering many foreigners dont know where New Zealand is I dont see much revelance to Victoria University being confused with other like named places. Next we will find Christchurch wanting to change its name so it is not confused with its namesake in England. What happens to the recognition of past graduates are their degrees altered and re- issued.Looks more like change for changes sake or a premature push to convert all English named towns to Maori to me.

It wont be the first time NZNO have sold their members short. It is not till the dust is settled that you find they have given up other hard fought for gains. The figures should be released to avoid nurses conflicts with their colleagues then both the ayes and nays are there for all to see, at the moment we only have NZNO word for it and from past experience I wouldnt trust them. All seemed to fit in conveniently with Jacindas return to the helm.

So do the nurses who work in aged care. It is a DHB vs primary care issue not a racial one as this article is trying to promote.I did my nursing training in Rotorua and I can vouch that we all got the same pay within the DHB. Just like the treaty settlements the money stays in the upper echelons and seldom filters down. And for the record I have a very strong and lengthy Maori heritage. If we stopped racializing everything and worked towards a common goal more would be achieved for everyone.
