Theyre 17. At 17 you can pick up a gun and go to war, drive a car, have sex and get married. In a year you can vote, drink and go to university. Jeez, 17 is old enough to take care of yourself.
I dont like tattoos and I would never get one but I dont care that other people have them, however I wouldnt employ someone in a service role if they had a visible tattoo. Theres something about tattoos, particularly on women, that implies something negative. Is it fair? Probably not, but I dont think Im alone in seeing tattoos on women as a bit â˜cheapening.
Most influencers posts that I have seen, in my limited exposure to social media, involve photos that are retouched such that they dont represent the real landscape, real cityscape or real person paired with a rehashed quote by someone famous (who had earned their influence) and palmed off as their own thoughts. Most influencers dont seem to present a real picture of the world or themselves, which makes me wonder why 100,000 people or 1M people care what they think. Id rather someone put a real photo of a real landscape with a real person in it, straight off the camera (like the old days) and pair it with something original...90% of Influencers would have nothing to post if they kept it real.
I would like to be a teacher but the pay is terrible, the working conditions sound exhausting, bullying is rampant in schools among teachers and students, theres not enough male teachers because theyre scared of being accused of misconduct by young girls and quite a few of children (by no means all) nowadays behave like they have been raised by parents who only had them to brag on social media about their perfect families. Not to mention P problems in homes, mothers who march into classrooms demanding their precious children get A grades because they â˜worked so hard and blaming the teacher when little Johnny didnt get the grade they thought he deserved. Actually, you couldnt pay me enough to teach. Teachers deserve a medal alongside a pay rise.
Maybe this says more about you than Stuff commentators that you only see the bad comments? I see people sharing their perspective and I think disagreement fosters human progress. If were all just spreading love then were not discussing issues and ideas. Stuff comments are not for spreading love, Im pretty sure thats what we ought to do in our day to day interactions with people.
To get the economy humming what needs to happen is wage/salary increases to drive demand instead of relying on credit, which creates a debt cycle that puts the economy on the boil over the short run but results in a recession over the long run when credit runs dry and creditors start calling in assets. We will see another recession soon as young people cant access credit because theyre knee deep in debt at the age of 25 and older people cant access credit because they havent saved enough for retirement. Too many poor people, or people straddled with debt, is bad for the economy.
I think a lot of parents cant be bothered parenting, theyd rather put their kids in structured activities and l surf Facebook or Instafame from the sidelines instead of watching and cheering, or let them run riot in cafes, carparks and on the street, disturbing everyone elses peace and quiet. I preferred the days when kids took a backseat in families and communities and earned attention through good behaviour. Modern mothers seem to think their children are â˜precious miracles and society ought to be grateful for another human being being added to the 7 billion already on the planet.
I agree. In society. In workplaces. In schools. In communities. Mental health is something people can be ostracised for. Whats sad though is even some people working in mental health services lack the qualities necessary to empathise and provide care for people with depression. I know a mental health nurse and it surprises me that he works in that field, he can be excessively assertive and lacks warmth and empathy for people. People with depression have a difficult road to recovery in this country.
This is rife in my family as well. Two older brothers can do know wrong, including one thats a compulsive liar, and then theres me, the ungrateful, entitled little brat who has taken advantage of her and whos just like her father. Ive been labeled just like your father and just like your grandmother since I was little - my mother hated both of them. The best thing to do, walk away. People say that youll regret it but I felt relief, like a barrage of judgment and criticism was lifted from my life. The main reason I chose not to have kids was, what if I had a daughter and did this to her, what if I repeated the cycle of mothers criticising their daughters? I didnt want to take that risk. I think these behaviours are deeply rooted in some families, passed down through generations, and the only way to stop it is to become aware of it and break the cycle. There wont be any more daughters that get hurt in our family because there are none to hurt.
True Axion, but if wages go up we also need to put a slow down on access to credit and/or raise interest rates so that the temptation to borrow is lower...and as interest rates go up so do rates on investments so it becomes more beneficial to invest than to borrow. The aim should be to get a rise in household cashflow that people ideally spread across paying off debt, investment and some consumerism to fuel economic growth. All three require cash in consumers hands and that needs wages increases. People also need to be educated on how to manage their money; most people dont understand the economic system and how theyre playing a part in a system that will either make them poor quickly, slowly or, if theyre in the 1% of people who understand the system, slightly or hugely wealthier.
The most accurate thing about this article is that mums do like to talk to each other, theyre a club gossiping about everyone else in the neighbourhood, including other peoples parenting styles, marriages and kids, from their lofty position of âIm a Mum, so I know best.â Raise your kids however you please, mind your own business and stay out of mine. BTW, the judgement these mums have towards other mums, other marriages and other kids suggests that they think theyre perfect and everyone else isnt. Mums eh, Id quite happily go through life with the dads.
It was a $40k repair from a massive 7.4 earthquake; Id call them low risk. Our repair was half a million, our premiums are $2k, i would call us high risk. Home ownership will become very expensive all over the world with floods, fires, earthquakes all impacting dividends and forcing up premiums. Add rates and forecasted mortgage rate increases and some people might start to struggle to keep their home.
I agree. The mentality of everything being about people with kids is last century. In the next twenty years its predicted that 35% of women will choose not to have kids. Id rather go at a childfree time so I dont have to deal with mothers and their kids. The dads are generally more chilled out and easy going, but theres a self-righteousness and âIm right, youre wrongâ that seems to infest many women when they become mums and they are not fun to be around at festivals...or in cafes it seems as well.
Theres a few theories that are not being taken adequately into account in this article or the comments:1. Determinism. Free will does not exist, its an illusion; we have choices but that is not the same as free will. 2. Intelligence. There is currently no accurate/stable measure of intelligence. The claim that CEOs, white people, wealthy people, etc., are more intelligent than other people is pseudoscience border on BS. 3. Genetics and evolution. We have a similar genetic code to our parents and siblings but we evolve to compete with our siblings. Evolution needs variation and competition for resources, which us why we end up genetically and behaviourally deviating from the other member of our family. Some theorists claim the oldest child is usually the most like the father, the second child most like the mother and subsequent children are the least like either parent or siblings as they need to find ways to Olmsted because their siblings have learned that â˜being similar to a parents gets their attention, so third born children need to find a way to get attention by being different or standing out. The upshot, Southern and her sidekick are quasi-intellectual bullies who get on their soapboxes and package cherry picked facts to construct a world view that suits their agenda of racism, fascism and decisiveness. People who call them â˜intellectual or straight talking could do with a little more education or time spent reading and listening to wider perspectives.
Rouppe, I agree that Paddy got eaten up and spat out, he was poorly prepared and at a complete loss as to how to handle them. That was unfortunate, I really do like Paddy. The issue, as I saw it, was that Paddy plays by what might be regarded as rules for good conversation - quality, conciseness, clarity, listening, responding to the question, etc - whereas Southern & Co. didnt play by the rules. They segued around questions they didnt like or responded with a question, they used ranting to baffle people with quasi-intellectual claims and they didnt listen, they merely asserted their well rehearsed diatribe of rotten statements. Id be embarrassed if I was Southern in forty years time and looked back at my conduct, she conducts herself like a schoolyard bully and a mean girl.
Tommy, justify your claim that they are âthe most fiscally irresponsibleâ by backing it up with evidence. Just because you can throw the buzz words out there (â˜fiscally irresponsible) doesnt mean your assertions have a leg to stand on. Nats always attack Labour on economic policy, theyve done it for decades, but it doesnt mean its 1.
We spent ten days (of a 28 day trip) on an Intrepid tour and hated it! We left and traveled independently after that. Its the only tour I had done, having traveled independently in 30-odd countries beforehand and since traveled through the Americas independently. We thought it might be easier to get around Africa on a tour - stupid decision. Dont do it. These tours are awful. Youre stuck on a bus with group of people for six to ten hours a day, living to a schedule, eating dull food thats just about subsisting, staying in the cheapest accommodation available and going to a token market and a token orphanage ( visiting the orphanage felt incredibly uncomfortable, like the kids were being exploited for tourism). It wasnt travel, it wasnt an adventure, it was living life on a bus with brief moments of freedom. Dont do it.
Divorcing couples fight over money, assets and kids out of spite and a want for power and revenge; its rarely about the money or the kids. In many cases that Ive seen, the stay-at-home Mum who then becomes the ex-wife wants as much money as she can get because she most likely CHOSE to have kids over working and now her financial earning power has suffered and the ATM/bank just walked out the door. Shell claim she sacrificed her career but thats not usually the case, most stay-at-home mums wanted to stop work to play house, they conveniently call it a sacrifice during a divorce. Most of my girlfriends who are divorced mums are pretty bitter and twisted years later, even after theyve remarried.

Sunny Day, if you think shes earnest then the definition of earnest needs to be revised. Have you heard some of her claims, based highly questionable evidence? Shes a school yard bully and pseudo-intellectual. Most first year philosophy students could forma better argument that Southern. I dont care how she looks and I dont mind that she has her own views, but if shes going to make empirical, rational or deductively valid claims then she need to use empirical evidence, reasoning or something other than a constant flow of hot air that sounds impressive but is actually flaky. She baffles people with BS and a demeanor that appears smart, but scratch the surface of her arguments and she really is just a bully.
