People want power but they dont want to live next to it. Its a green box. Theyre in every neighbourhood. Entitlement goes astray again. Sorry not sorry.
Come on bureaucrats get real!!. If you live on a rural road, in a rural area and a school bus goes straight past you in a rural speed limit area, then the school bus should be picking you up especially when theres no footpaths (which there isnt in rural areas). My kids are in this exact situation. We are about 20m short of the limit. Our 80km speed road links on to a state highway with big trucks and a blind corner. Theres no way they can bike or walk. Their school doesnt let them bike being under 10 anyway. And neither would I. Its very much a Health and Safety issue. But guess what? Our bus driver picks the kids up anyway!! How cool is he! And so is his reliever. So I guess the company doesnt have their tape measure out.
My kids primary school did deal with the bullies. They had group role play sessions to show how bullying felt. They gave bullies good telling offs. And there was a culture in the school to support one another. They had a â˜friendâ seat in the playground where a kid could sit if they had nobody to play with. Someone always would. The seniors were encouraged to support the younger kids. When a school doesnt victim blame, bullies come off second best.
I remember being fairly pregnant and giving up my seat for an elderly lady, while school kids and able bodied adults stayed in theirs. This was 15 years ago so I don't think bad manners is anything new.
Been saying this for years. Move to the regions/provinces. The Government have the opportunity to help industry to relocate away from the main cities. Give incentives for them to do so. People will follow the jobs and alleviate pressure on city infrastructure and housing.
My peers who did apprenticeships had qualifications by 20, owned houses and businesses while I was still gaining and paying for a degree that hasn't exactly set me up in life. In the 90's everything got turned into a degree and apprenticeships went on the back burner. Now there's a shortage of qualified tradies. The apprenticeship system definitely has its advantages. I watch my year 11 kid struggling at learning math that has buggerall application in the real world. But the aim of it is to use your brain to work out problems.
From July next year landlords who don't insulate their homes to the required standard will be fined $4000. Anything built prior to 2000 needs assessing as existing insulation probably doesn't meet their requirements.
Get off your high horse. What brand new parent wants to have to work?! Of course theyd rather be with their child. But they need to put a roof over that childs head ! Tried paying rent on a single wage these days? Parents do what they have to do to get through! Your ideal world where every Mum stayed home and tended the garden, made her own preserves and sewed her own clothes with a kid tied to the clothesline died a long time ago.
Im living about 800m from a proposed 1080 drop zone on the coastline of the Buller district in a rural area. I have never ever seen a possum on this part of the coast. The only possums I have seen are inland. We have at least 4 native bird species living on our property. We and our immediate neighbours set traps for potential predators such as stoats. The numbers caught are 3 in 6 years. My husband works in remote areas and has worked in 1080 areas. According to him It kills everything. Everything. The majority of us have dogs in this area. We wont be able to use our rivers or beaches. Living so close will our kids and animals be safe since its aerial dropped? Will we still have birds here afterwards? Ill let you all know if 1080 protestors are scaremongering or not.
Finances were stretched. How much would that have cost ? 1.5 hours drive yes on a very windy road. Quite different to being stuck on an Auckland motorway.
