My husband and I have worked hard to save a deposit and buy a house in a nice area where the kids can safely go to the park and walk home from school. It is nowhere near the value of Mark Richardsons house but we are proud of it. Feel free to call me elitist but i dont want the same problems in our neighborhood that social housing has brought to others. It has nothing to do with rich people/poor people but the drugs, crime and anti social behaviour that other social housing areas all have.
The women has come forward to say she is happy with the way National dealt with it. She appears to be a successful member of the party still and is considering running in the bi election. She doesnt appear to feel like a victim and doesnt seem to be unfairly muzzled by a confidentiality agreement.
The place I work for had an entry level job, starting out cleaning and sweeping before being trained up on the machines and progressing through the different pay rates. The last guy was there for 8 years before leaving on his OE. We went through at least 6 young people who worked fine for the first few weeks then started turning up late, not turning up at all or calling in sick all the time. We ended up with a guy in his 50s who had been made redundant and couldnt find another job. Hes absolutely brilliant. Such a hard worker and never complains.
Your keys fit in your wallets change pocket along with a few other items? Sounds like you replaced your handbag with a huge wallet. Put a shoulder strap on it and its probably about the same size as the little bag I carry with me.
And this is the major problem with MMP. Everyone is voting but nobody really knows the coalition that they are voting for. I voted for one of the major parties but I would have gladly switched my vote to the other major party if it gave them enough to govern without NZF.
The boys room got a low score because it wasnt finished. No matter what you think of Amy and Stu, their rooms are always completed and the finishing is to a high standard. The judges marks for styling is based on their own opinions but NOBODY wants to buy a house and then spend thousands fixing stuff up. Cushions and knick knacks can be thrown out but the basics need to be right.
The supervisor has to approve it because of the number of under age staff that work on the checkouts. A 15 yr old cant work in a liquor store, they also cant sell alcohol in a supermarket. It also prevents one of them getting peer pressured to just ignore the ID because its their school mate buying. Not a perfect solution but unfortunately necessary.
Nice idea but the type of parents who need a course to tell them to feed their kids, not do drugs around them, dont let them wander the streets at night, dont expose them to violence etc arent going to benefit from that course. If someone was treating a dog like that, the dog would be taken off them. If its a kid, we just call it poverty and give the parents more money.
I cant see this policy being a long term win for Labour. Next election National is going to have a field day with the stats of all the students that dropped out, didnt pass their first year, or didnt continue to the 2nd year - all courtesy of the tax payer.
Actually I cant think of any time when Stu and Amy have sabotaged another team. The other teams just seem to look at ways to sabotage them. Using your two points as examples. The girls used their hour to take Amy in the last hour before room reveal. They could have had an hours free plumbing labour from Stu but, no, they used it to sabotage Amy and Stu. If it had been the other way around the girls would have been sobbing to the camera and calling for their mothers. Re the fabric, all four teams agreed not to use it to screw the other teams but Clair and Agni changed their minds and went nasty.. There have been lots of instances where Amy has been helping the other teams with advice and shopping. Maybe Instead of trying to win by screwing them over, the other teams could try producing a decent (completed) room and earning the win.
Actually if YOU read the article it says eggs, mayonnaise, bacon and egg pie and some baking. I know a child with an egg allergy. Baking (cakes, biscuits, muffins) are fine as long as he doesnt eat them. Baking with large pieces of egg like egg pie or quiche are not good as pieces of egg gets on the eaters fingers and from there to shared pens, light switches, tables etc. This egg ban may not be as restrictive as some people seem to think.
Seems as though he mis-heard which would not be difficult with so many voices yelling at once. If it was clear enough for him to hear from the speakers chair, it would also be clear on the recordings. A bigger man would admit his error.
If she had wanted to do the dirty on the other teams she would have just done the calendar and not told them. My guess is that Claire and Agnis builder told Amy and Stus builder that C & A were considering doing the calendar behind everyones backs (which they were). Amy went round telling everyone that the deal was off but couldnt dob in the builders. She had no more time than any other team.
I agree in part but the free 20 hours in day care should be for parents that work only. At the moment it is really hard to find a place without a huge waiting list for parents who work and NEED this service because places are taken by children of stay at home parents. Kindergarten is a good option for these families as it gives pre-school learning and socialisation to small kids but the hours that it operates makes it unfeasible for working families.
Regardless of what the full story is, JLR is a snake and Im sure his career is completely destroyed. If someone asks you to do something illegal you can choose to refuse to do it, or do it and be involved in the deceit. Taping the calls is just setting yourself up to blackmail someone. Releasing private conversations that have no purpose other than to embarrass someone with something they said to you in private and in confidence is as low as you can go.
I agree that they should not be allowed to do this but unfortunately legally they can. The only exception is if including the employers 3% would take the employee below the minimum wage.
For all the people slamming this women - she has said that she is grateful for the help but there must be a better way that is not a disincentive to work. I agree. Shorly there must be a fairer way than handing out welfare from the taxpayers. A tax system that recognised lower incomes would help those who need it, including those who dont have children, while still allowing them to help themselves through working. This makes more sense than throwing taxpayers money around.
There was an episode of Mr Bean where he painted a room by putting a stick of dinomite in a paint can. The finish was slightly better than some of these completed rooms. Its not just the styling thats winning Amy and Stu their rooms.
I cant believe that he was sharing photos of his kids and talking about his family with her. She was looking as pictures of his kids and saying you know what, I think Ill screw up their family. I dont know who is worse, him or her. Either way I think that you already know that the trust is gone from your marriage and is unlikely to come back. There are always other considerations to think about when you leave someone, financial implications, how it will affect the kids etc. Its never as easy as just leaving like some of the advice below. You will need to make up your mind if what is left of your marriage makes it worth saving.
Having an animal is a responsibility. If the family is not responsible enough to register their animal, they are not responsible enough to have the charge of a dog classed as dangerous that has already attacked someone.
First of all, nobody has complained. The company has identified a problem with their product and apologised. It is fair enough that if someone orders a product they get what they ordered.Secondly, I am not, and never have been a vegetarian however I respect everyones right to their moral beliefs and I dont believe that vegetarianism and basic nutrition are mutually exclusive.
What is really ridiculous is how they portray teams as the good guys or the baddies through their editing then give a car to the viewers favourite team.
She was never on a benefit and was always working, she is talking about Working for families. 3 out 4 families get these top ups and her point was that there must be a better way.
Where was the bullying? Amy found out about the room because Claire and Agnis builder couldnt keep it to himself. There was a brief discussion with Stu and their own builder about how it would sacrifice storage to create a bedroom with no window, then they got back to work. The fact that C and A are upset does not make Amy a bully.
Amy and Stu keep winning because they are the only ones who consistently complete a room to a high standard. The girls are improving but the boys and Claire and Agni are still either not completing their room or the painting is really rough. The girls would have won the master and ensuite if the two rooms tied in with each other better. That is what Amy is so skilled at and the team has their time management sorted which has tripped up the other teams. To me it seems as though the judges take off more points for unfinished rooms or shoddy work than they add for styling which is the way it should be.
The boys didnt lose points because of the lack of cheese. One judge made a joke about a cheese board with no cheese for the judges thats all. The girls had exactly the same room with the same layout and same furniture. They table was much better dressed - and had cheese. The boys got a higher score.
If people dont benefit from a pay rise they are not going to push for one. If an employer doesnt have to increase pay - they wont. This is how pay rates are being held down for all of us.
Its got nothing to do with who does the shopping. Amy and Stu have divided up the different jobs according to their skills and it clearly works. Their rooms are always completed and to a high standard. Clair and Agnis rooms are usually completed but it looks as though the paint has been literally thrown at the walls. They need to look at what they are doing and say that it is not working. Agni cant possibly spend more than 60 hours a week shopping and planning.
She is not on a welfare benefit - the discussion is about working for families. 3 out of 4 families receive it , most of them working families. Her point was that there is a better solution.
Welfare should be a safety net for people on low incomes. For people who work, tax cuts are a better incentive to get ahead. Help people work and they will pay more tax - win win. Penalise them for working and they will just turn down opportunities and cost the tax payer more - lose lose. This mum has taken on the extra work even though it hasnt increased her income much for the extra 10 hours, she hasnt turned it down to claim more from the government . Why shouldnt someone be able to work to improve their situation? Then they can spend their money on a holiday or whatever they like.
I agree however if for whatever reason the money isnt making it from the benefit to the kids, I would much rather my tax money fund policies like this than increase the benefit.
Still missing the point and spouting the same comment that you put on the first article. Did you not bother reading this one before commenting or do you just have a problem adjusting your opinion when you are wrong.
I didnt didnt the words its not fair anywhere in this article. Just that someone wanted to improve their situation but cant because the way the welfare system works. Most people would just turn down the offer of $50 for 10 hours work - she hasnt. Whats wrong with encouraging people to work to improve their own situation rather than just sit around and wait for the next welfare increase.
I dont agree with the parents getting involved because they only have their own kids point of view. My daughter was constantly bullied at intermediate, verbally and physically by this older girl which the school was well aware of. I had so many meetings with the school and nothing changed. Finally my daughter snapped and kicked her in the ankle. The girl cried, complained and limped around school for the next week like she had been crippled. The teachers all acknowledged that my daughter was not unprovoked but the other girls mother threw a fit and was threatening the police even when shown the record of her daughters bullying. It would be totally unacceptable for the parent to confront my daughter on this.
They are not saying that 4,000,000 meals would otherwise have gone in the skip, just that this is how much they donate to the hungry. For this reason they should feel no guilt about locking their dumpsters to prevent the hungry helping themselves to food that is potentially unsafe.
The problem is that if one does it, they lose a whole lot of business to their competitor. Not just the cigarette sales either but all the other shopping a customer does in the store while buying their cigarettes. This is why it has to come from government if all the shops are going to stop selling. Much as I hate nanny governments its the only way a change like this would happen. Making it voluntary wont work.
Shes taken the extra work even though it doesnt improve her financial situation much relative to the extra hours she is working. She hasnt turned it down in order to claim more but suggests that there might be a better solution. What exactly do you want from her?
Depending on how serious the accident is there is a good chance that there might not be the opportunity for an alcohol test and if the insurance cant prove the driver was drunk they must pay. Also the fact that a driver has multiple drink driving convictions may indicate that their decision making is not the best and that they dont take responsibility for their behavior..
White walls work well in a bedroom but not in a lounge like the girls had. Its a very clean, sophisticated look so clashed horribly with the wooden shelves and hanging chair. The team that used it a few seasons ago in a lounge got great marks from Jason because it was presented well.
I have a question regarding the secret 4th bedroom in Claire and Agnis house for anyone who might have actually seen it. The glazed door at the end of the room goes to the entrance way and apparently there is no door to the garage so fumes arent an issue. Where does that door go to in the picture opposite the bed?
Bit of a problem when they are judging each space individually. They can hardly give the boys points foraised sacrificing all the space upstairs based on what it might do for other areas.
Great episode but it would never have played out this way if Matt and Dave didnt already know each other before Survivor. This is totally unfair to the other contestants who have to try and suss out the characters and trustworthiness of a bunch of complete strangers, which is the whole point of Survivor.
I applaud you for declining the money that you didnt need however this was when WFF first started and you were offered $80 a week. Since then WFF has grown into a monster and 3 out of 4 families eligable for top ups, most of them worth hundreds of dollars a week. The government keep increasing the top ups and asking it less and less worth while to work.
I have so much sympathy for people like yourself who genuinely cant work and Ive seen a close family member struggle financially dealing with a similar thing. We all take our health for granted far too much. It is unfortunate that some years ago, the sickness benefit was very badly abused. Reading through the court pages, a huge proportion of the offenders were on sickness benefits. If you are well enough to break into a house or run an illegal chop shop, you are well enough to get a job. Its these people who are to blame for the flack that you get and I personally would be happy to mow your lawns or anyone elses in the same situation.
A few seasons ago there was that guy who continually used power tools at night getting complaints from the neighbours. He was warned twice, then put on a $10,000 bond and on the FORTH time, the $10,000 was taken off him. He kept lying about it then got abusive when all the proof was presented to him and still refused to admit it. I dont see the difference really. Both teams broke the rules, gave themselves an unfair advantage and lied about it but one team was dealt with far more harshly.
They stopped, maintaining that ride years ago. Four years ago one of the spitting dinosaurs had deteriorated so much that the tube was hanging out its mouth and the dino looked like a deflated blow up toy. I went on the ride when it first opened and it was amazing so I was sad to see it so run down.
There is a definite place for wheel clamping. If there are no consequences, people will park where ever they like and the business pays for their parks for their customers. There needs to be a set of rules that are not voluntary. Clear signage is totally fair but the police? They apparently dont have time to attend burglaries, do they have time to watch someone fit a clamp on private property?
Did you read the whole article before commenting? There is only business and first class on the plane. They need to reduce passenger numbers to increase the distance so there is no economy.
OMG another person who comments without reading the article properly. The point was that there are better ways to spend the money that is not a disincentive to work. The quote from the article was that welfare encourages people not to work, tax cuts are an incentive to work. The point is that welfare should be a safety net but WFF has extended it to the middle/high income earners where it does not belong. Why the hell should she not be better off by more than $50 for working another 10 hours a week?
For everyone complaining about their taxpayers dollars paying for daycare please consider the following:- If a parent works, they will pay tax. If the cost of childcare makes it unfeasible to work, they parent will not work and will not pay tax.- In addition to not paying tax, the family income will be lower so they will get a higher handout from working for families - more cost to the taxpayer.- As the parent is taking a longer break out of the workforce their income will be lower when they return and the flow on will likely affect them for a number of years. Again, less tax.I am all for paying for childcare for working families. Increase the childcare supplement and get rid of the handouts through working for families. The first will pay for itself, the second is just a drain on the taxpayer.
10 and 12 are too young to leave on a long haul flight on their own. A total nuisance for the flight attendants as someone has to keep an eye on them, and the other passengers would be put out too. You wouldnt leave them at home for 14 hours to look after themselves would you? I understand the logic about them aspiring to business class but fly in economy with them until they are a bit older.
To everyone commenting about sky tv - its about $8 a week. Hardly a huge luxury compared to families that drink, smoke and buy lotto each week. And this person works full time. If this is the only perk they have I cant see how anyone can knock her for it.
Gizzy won by default this time. Two rooms rooms were bare and dominated by a huge table and the other was over done with heaps of cushions, shawls, rugs and other stuff that made it impossible to sit in the chairs and would just need to be carted inside in wet weather.
Alice Snedden: The AM Shows Mark Richardson has an old-fashioned way of thinking

The judges marks for styling is based on their own opinions but NOBODY wants to buy a house and then spend thousands fixing stuff up. Cushions and knick knacks can be thrown out but the basics need to be right.
Countdown refuses alcohol sale for parent shopping with children
The supervisor has to approve it because of the number of under age staff that work on the checkouts. A 15 yr old cant work in a liquor store, they also cant sell alcohol in a supermarket. It also prevents one of them getting peer pressured to just ignore the ID because its their school mate buying. Not a perfect solution but unfortunately necessary.

Auckland retailers would support government ban of tobacco sales, research shows
The problem is that if one does it, they lose a whole lot of business to their competitor. Not just the cigarette sales either but all the other shopping a customer does in the store while buying their cigarettes. This is why it has to come from government if all the shops are going to stop selling. Much as I hate nanny governments its the only way a change like this would happen. Making it voluntary wont work.
I'm trapped in a handout cycle, but I'm not a 'bludger'
Shes taken the extra work even though it doesnt improve her financial situation much relative to the extra hours she is working. She hasnt turned it down in order to claim more but suggests that there might be a better solution. What exactly do you want from her?
I'm trapped in a handout cycle, but I'm not a 'bludger'
I think her point was that there is a better alternative to taxpayers assistance. And a holiday doesnt necessarily mean Disneyland.
The Block NZ: Wolfkamp loses his cool over Agni's paint fail
He actually reminded me more of Fred Flintstone. WILLLLLMAAAAA
Drink drivers face difficulties staying insured
Depending on how serious the accident is there is a good chance that there might not be the opportunity for an alcohol test and if the insurance cant prove the driver was drunk they must pay. Also the fact that a driver has multiple drink driving convictions may indicate that their decision making is not the best and that they dont take responsibility for their behavior..
The Block NZ: Girls get a break; lads get an 'epic fail' from judges
White walls work well in a bedroom but not in a lounge like the girls had. Its a very clean, sophisticated look so clashed horribly with the wooden shelves and hanging chair. The team that used it a few seasons ago in a lounge got great marks from Jason because it was presented well.
"Singapore to New York: On board the new world's longest flight",
Read the whole article. There is no economy on the flight as the plane couldnt do 18 hours with that many passengers.
I'm trapped in a handout cycle, but I'm not a 'bludger'
She didnt get a raise of$16000 she got a pay rise AND took on an extra 10 hours from 30 to 40 hours
The Block NZ houses are listed for sale
I have a question regarding the secret 4th bedroom in Claire and Agnis house for anyone who might have actually seen it. The glazed door at the end of the room goes to the entrance way and apparently there is no door to the garage so fumes arent an issue. Where does that door go to in the picture opposite the bed?
The Block NZ: Ben and Tom's 'I-told-you-so' moment comes in the kitchen
Bit of a problem when they are judging each space individually. They can hardly give the boys points foraised sacrificing all the space upstairs based on what it might do for other areas.
Survivor NZ recap: Brad gets smoked like a salmon - a John West salmon
Great episode but it would never have played out this way if Matt and Dave didnt already know each other before Survivor. This is totally unfair to the other contestants who have to try and suss out the characters and trustworthiness of a bunch of complete strangers, which is the whole point of Survivor.
I'm trapped in a handout cycle, but I'm not a 'bludger'
I applaud you for declining the money that you didnt need however this was when WFF first started and you were offered $80 a week. Since then WFF has grown into a monster and 3 out of 4 families eligable for top ups, most of them worth hundreds of dollars a week. The government keep increasing the top ups and asking it less and less worth while to work.
My reality: Sick, poor and unable to work
I have so much sympathy for people like yourself who genuinely cant work and Ive seen a close family member struggle financially dealing with a similar thing.
The Block NZ: Amy and Stu fined $5000 for cheating
A few seasons ago there was that guy who continually used power tools at night getting complaints from the neighbours. He was warned twice, then put on a $10,000 bond and on the FORTH time, the $10,000 was taken off him. He kept lying about it then got abusive when all the proof was presented to him and still refused to admit it. I dont see the difference really. Both teams broke the rules, gave themselves an unfair advantage and lied about it but one team was dealt with far more harshly.
Theme parks count on mournful visitors to take one last ride aboard dying attractions
Government announces new measures to crack down on 'unscrupulous' wheel clampers
"Singapore to New York: On board the new world's longest flight",
Did you read the whole article before commenting? There is only business and first class on the plane. They need to reduce passenger numbers to increase the distance so there is no economy.
When a $16k payrise only gives you $50 a week extra in hand after credits reduced
Ummm nappies, unlikely to be working
When a $16k payrise only gives you $50 a week extra in hand after credits reduced
Michelle Duff: Some parents are struggling. Why are we still paying for "free" childcare?
Kirstie Allsopp defends flying business class while putting her children in economy
When a $16k payrise only gives you $50 a week extra in hand after credits reduced
To everyone commenting about sky tv - its about $8 a week. Hardly a huge luxury compared to families that drink, smoke and buy lotto each week. And this person works full time. If this is the only perk they have I cant see how anyone can knock her for it.
The Block NZ: It's patio week and the favourites nail it again
Gizzy won by default this time. Two rooms rooms were bare and dominated by a huge table and the other was over done with heaps of cushions, shawls, rugs and other stuff that made it impossible to sit in the chairs and would just need to be carted inside in wet weather.
