Northcote NIMBY. Get a life. Crushes are easily managed in a situation like this. Its all about channeling people. And there is no stadium or other facility that will create a point of bulk people storage to create the crush, and even if there were one, it is easily managed. Tower bridge doesnt have crush events , bridges over the seine have not, golden gate has not, and neither did Brooklyn bridge or Sydney harbour bridge. All bridges with pedestrian walkways, and with incredibly high value views. Just admit it. You dont want the great unwashed walking or cycling past your immigrant funded multimillion dollar properties. When the price crash comes, you wont really care... in fact you will be keen on the walkway, because it will make your properties more attractive to city workers. Think of the future

Needs to be nationalised. The is a logical outcome of the neoliberal religion started in the eighties. It has never driven prices down, and it has in fact made supply more precarious as generators and lines companies minimise investment in the future to maximise profits now. While a state monopoly is not perfect, at least they can plan for the future and supply of critical infrastructure is certain. I know Ill get down voted from the blue brigade fan boys, but actually, when you get down to it, what has liberalisation and unconstrained free market actually given us.....Banking system controlled by foreignersLand unaffordableBuilding costs excessivePrecarious power supply and generationSpotty 3G coverage Copper provision degradationSlave wagesService based jobsNo future for executivesExport of skills Import of unskilled workersI could go on

Typical religion. It's my way, and my way only. Your way is morally corrupt [insert epithet of choice] and should be banned. If you don't follow my way, you need to be [again insert punishment of choice] and you never achieve ever lasting happiness.Get over yourselves. You do no one ant favours with your strident challenges and complaints when others don't agree with you.Extremism is all it's forms should be viewed with suspicion. Moderation in all things, and lack of specialisation is the basis to a successful, happy and sustainable existence.

Time to shut down or right size these ventures. As someone who had a son waste a year of their life at whitereia I think intervention is none too soon. Tutors useless or worse, courses changed mid stream, examination results going missing. A shambles. But they are not the worst. That title must go to western institute of technology in New Plymouth. Dont bail them out. Shut them down and restructure to go back to technical college roots, and stop providing pretend courses.

While there is some valid criticism of where mr Jones gets his authority from, what he is saying is spot on. Fonterra believe that might is right and that they are accountable to no one. The rot was there from day one with their first autocratic mysoginistic CE. And continues to this day. If you don't believe me ask any women service provider who worked for him. Secondly he is right about economists. They are the priests and the religion of neo classical liberal economics. I use the world religion deliberately, because they like mai stream religions have proselytising fervour , don't tolerate any disagreement and ask all to have faith in the trickle down wealth effect. Unfortunately. Church and state have combined and to make matters worse the fourth estate is also controlled by the neoliberal classical church

Where is the wringing of hands at the sexism in our teaching profession, our curriculum and the way we teach. It is a proven fact that boys learn differently from girls, note I did not say have differing capability, but we focus our learning methods, outcomes and curricula on supporting the encouraging female based learning behaviour. We then wring our hands and bleat in horror when we see that boys are significantly statistically underachieving at school and we are creating a subtle underclass of ill educated boys. The reasoning given is that well boys had it for so long, now it's the girls turn. This is unfair, unethical and immoral. We need to recognise that while capability and capacity to learn and perform is the same, how boys and girls do it, or in fact, men and women are different. We need to recognise that we all do things differently and support the beast methods for either, rather than creating an underclass of either girls and women, as in the past, or boys and men, as now. I dispair with the way we are punishing the current generation for the sins of our parents, grand parents and in some cases great grandparents

Really. List them. Im an immigrant. Been here 25 years. No benefits here mate. And you will find most immigrants like that. Significant payer of taxes as well. Be careful about bashing immigrants indiscriminately. We have come in, met the requirements laid down by the elected government, worked bloody hard and paid our taxes. Issue is government letting in people who will never be employable just to keep labour costs down to support excessive profits of kiwis in corporate welfare. Stop those immigrants. But you wont. You want them in to work at slave rates, then kick them out when they have done your dirty work so they can die young in the third world. Immigrants should only be allowed for those areas when income earned is 100% high than average wage. For every other shortfall in employment, pay more and you will find shortage will go away, and then wont have a pension problem.

Another way is to require immigrants to purchase contributions. Similar to what happens in the UK. Say statistical assumptions is that average male works and contributes 40 years before Nz super kicks in. Ie allows 5 to 7 years to go to Uni or âfind yourselfâ. So if want super, need to have worked and contributed to NZ tax system at a level equal to or above average wage for at least 20 of those years. Dont care when. This entitles you to a non means tested super at 50% of superannuation. To get to 100% you can purchase each year at 50% of the average per capita contribution the NZ government made to the NZ super fund in the prior ten years before you purchased your contribution. That way the government is fully incentivised to fully fund super, and immigrants make a contribution based upon how much time they have actually spent in NZ. This then is I believe fairer, as kiwis can go overseas to earn the big bucks, and can come back and still get access to pension. Perhaps because they were born here they would only have to fund 75% or some other multiple. But this still needs us to stop importing slave labour on the premise that kiwis dont want the jobs. No its that kiwis cannot afford the slave wages you want to pay, and it only works because those immigrants live in compounds and go back to the third world again. Pay a fair and living wage, accept less profit, restrict immigration to 1 skill shortages, and make immigrants have to purchase the benefits that they qualify for in the future based upon their time in the country. Fair and reasonable, and not xenophobic.

Unlike nationals men and women who care only for themselves and their corporate banker paymasters, Peters cares passionately about himself and this country, and therefore will be a better acting Pm than any of natoonals wannabes. Go Winnie. At least you care!

SHA Is an appropriate response to housing area and a RMA that prevents development. BUT why outer suburbs and not places like Thornton, Mt Cook and other inner city suburbs. Thats where the dense development needs to be. But of course I forget, thats where the councillors live so dont want to encroach on their back yard. SHA should follow the city. Interiors commercial, fringe high density, and then roll out. That means things like infrastructure is better served and cheaper.

Yes it's legal, but until 18 the contract could be avoided. That is, given the car back and said I didn't know what I was doing. Minors cannot contract, but the contract is not void, it can merely be avoided. Different. It means that after you turn 18 and continue to pay the the contact is enforceable. Probably find parents stood as surety for the 16 year old. Didn't understan$ what they were getting into as well.Loan sharks at e an evil blight on society. So are payday lenders and finance trucks. The trouble is, that due to the right wing religion of neoclassicism. Regulation was abolished in the credit market in the eighties. We are now reaping what we have sown.

And now it's about time that the region addresses the other two major stumbling blocks to growth: relocate the regional hospital to Kenepuru like they should have done ten years ago, rather than pandering to special interest groups; and develop a regional international airport at Peka Peka. Kapiti would have been better but vested interests stopped that one as well. With good road and rail links, especially when integrated into the Petone Link Road, it would ensure that the region can develop into a powerhouse to compete with Auckland and Christchurch, be more resilient in Earthquakes, and reduce central city congestion. But of course because it is logical, will probably mean it will never happen, and therefore resources will continue to be thrown into Auckland, and on patchwork fixes to deal with central city congestion.

Get the busses running on time, certainty in water and power supply and other core amenities sorted councils. This, while important is a central government issue. Stop playing at wannabe prime minister and get core services delivered properly and at a reasonably cost first. Focus on you purpose, not on the pretties otherwise you may find others willing to step into your shoes.

Get rid of the inefficiency of the dhbs. Put in place by Bolger and his cronies so that National didnt have to take the heat for thealth cuts. National cut the health budget , but dHB had to do rationing. Really effective in removing heat from central government. Now they can just pretend like they are doing something by telling boards what to do. Time to disband and have a single health service like in other countries. Ours is really inefficient and top heavy. Force the government to change by boycotting the electoral process for dhbs. That will destroy Govt argument that dhb is for the people. Either that or March. Maybe its time to march.

This all started when commercial enterprises lobbied councils to get rid of the rates multipliers associated with business arguing that they did nor consume services at the same level as residential customers and there needed to be a level playing field. The issue is that we bought into the neo liberal argument that councils are suppliers of services. They are not, they are providers of infrastructure and community that attract people to the city and therefore benefit commercial and industrial enterprise by providing markets and employees. Start charging rates to commercial and industrial enterprises in such a way as to reflect the amenity value created and the issue will go away. Oh, and also ensure we get robust democracy so that counsellor are prevented from driving ego projects. Finally merge councils to make them more efficient and ensure that they take advantage of bulk buying opportunities through being part of government.

What a badly written article. Stating a big bank failure was imminent. Not only factually incorrect, but quite dangerous Also, the current OBR scheme already has the facility for a de minimum guarantee amount which every bank has been required to put into their system. Finally, the numbers given by the article seem to be plucked out of nowhere. 10 basis points for the risk....and then saying that Canada has never had a failure. Seems way too pricey. Or is that to subsidise the smaller banks. Also no comment about credit unions....thats where the most vulnerable depositors are. Or is this guarantee only for the wealthy?

Ah well the farmers will still be destroying our land. Good on ya. Mates. Good to see you care. Pesticides, water pollution, animal cruelty, water theft, destruction of native species, reduction in biom diversity, soil depletion. All good mate. So long as you can make a buck. Shell be right. Until it isnt......

It depends on their direction of travel If the are approaching head on then yes, but they can also be like two cars passing each other on a dual lane highway. Both going in about the same direction but the one is marginally faster than the other. When that happens and gravity catches it, it can end up going down at terminal velocity which is subsonic. Those donâ't leave craters and tend to be the ones that leave larger parts.

I vote for whomever I think will serve this country, and the future of my community and children best. And Im no dole bludger, teacher, or an6 other profession that you may consider not been in the real world. What we are seeing here in New Zealand is the destruction of fundamental values that our grandparents and great grandparents fought and died for. Democracy, caring society, and a willingness to give everyone a go. National has degraded into a party of privilege, influence for sale, and me me me.

Insurance. A legalised form of extortion when you get older. As you become more likely to claim, The price goes up. Policy costs should be erred throughout your life, if you stay with the same company rather than adjusted each birthday. This would stop churn, and would ensure that older people dont end up discriminated against. Its not just life insurance. Its any form of long term insurance including medical.

French breads (in France) are great and dont cause all the hassles to digestion that breads in the rest of the world do. Why. The French resisted modernising their wheat with modified crops. The result We can still eat French bread. Cannot eat bread with modified flour from any other country.

No person has a right to a bank account. How would banks protect staff against abusers and people who threaten violence. Also there is much more to this story than the person is willing to tell. Most people who have their assets sold due to being unable to pay their debt still end up with accounts. It is only those that have wilfully contributed to their own demise by not recognising they are out of control, fraudsters and thieves that end up loosing their accounts. Oh and dont just say the can go to a credit union. Why should they take the rip off artists, low lives and others. If you want to guarantee access to electronic payment systems, perhaps the Reserve Bank or another government agency could issue simple payment cards. These then could be monitored by winz. Oh, and if you are in a cash business and have had access removed because of it, well you are probably involved in illegal activities and so dont deserve one. The same if you last accesss because you dont want to provide Id or evidence of wealth. Again, dont care, at least it stops drug and criminal money coming into the system. Its your choice. Live with it.

I believe that teachers performance assessments should be based on scholars performance in exams. Dont give excuses about how they cant be taught. No teachers its you are unable to teach. You follow feminist agendas that seek to make everyone sing kimbayya to each other and dont put pressure on delivery or teach children how to learn. Teach, inform, guide and discipline, and if you cant, get out. And and they are not students, they are scholars. They are being schooled in reading writing and arithmetic and a basic understanding of the natural and scientific world They are not reading for a degree, and certainly not studying to create new knowledge. They are not students, the are school children.

Bullying at all levels. I wonder if the health and safety laws apply. I also wonder if mr Ross was sectioned in such a hurry to shut him up. Mates calling in favours from mates. National has shown its corrupt roots. Time to start again, and crusher Collins and Bully Bennett are not the right people.

My religion is superior. I am absolute ok so long as I take this additive and that fortification. Accept it. Its an unnatural diet. Extremes everywhere are unhealthy. Absolutely eliminate highly processed foodstuffs and moderate your animal protein intake. Moderation in all things is the way to contentment. Also remember that if everyone followed your diet countless would die of starvation due to the lack of funds to pay for the unprocessed foods. Perhaps in a post apocalyptic world there would be few if us around to allow this diet to be followed. But highly processed food also reduced the level of starvation in the world.
