Wow, I love these articles & analysis from Brendan Ventner. I think he is right on the money. England will keep it tight & play their traditional 10 man football & plug the corners. If they dont get their kick chase right, Barrett & McKenzie will cut them to ribbons. I also think The ABs have a major advantage up front & on the bench. Cant wait for the match!!!!
John Mitchell could be the best weapon the Abs have.
I think they are allowed to visit the Louvre, not sure if the ref can stop them, personally thought it was a bit boring and there are better things to see in Paris but each to their own ay
Their best bet would be to score more points than the ABs. That way they should win...
Pretty decent analysis again Brendan. The twin-playmaker concept is supposed to combat that rush defense so it will be interesting to see how both teams react.Farrell has a great boot but will need to be accurate to avoid just surrendering possession to a counter-attacking All Blacks. The attraction for me with the contrasting styles of play will be the set-piece battle and set-plays off that contest, an area where the All Blacks have improved since these teams last met.I hope Garces can be consistent, where he was appalling in the Lions Tests. One suspects the All Blacks discipline will have to be on-point.The other significant difference for me is the respective benches and for that reason, alone, I just cant see the Roses staying with the All Blacks deep..
Im interested to see Coles come in. when the game does open up he and todd could make a real difference.
We cannot, cannot loose to the poms. Its one team no one ever wants to go down to.
spot on with your comments...I know we have amazing backs, but I would love to see a very dominant display from our pack...I mean everywhere, set peices and at the ruck...we need alot if pick and go where retallic, Squire and co will come into their own...we have to employ this tactic against the rush defence prior to our wide game...earn the right first as they say
Well, lets start with the propensity of the English to kick to the opposition when it rains. The ball is slippery and makes it more difficult for the receiving team to secure. Secondly, a wet ball leads to more handling errors in general. The ABs run and gun passing game is certainly affected more than the typical pick and go style employed by the English, wouldnt you say?
forget the team on the field....the ABs main threat will be one eyed officials and TMO. I forsee no offside penalties being awarded to ABs, especially within 30m of the english try line. I would love to see the ABs smash them up the middle in the first half and tire them out. Like always it will be our bench coming on that should see another W
England are going to have to play full on for 80 minutes...... no other side except SA has been able to match the ABs for the full 80 minutes this year, because they all start to fade around the 60-70 minute mark... going to be a good game though
Not a chance. Im yet to see a rush defence that isnt offside, how offside they will be will depend on the ref. It will be a perilous strategy with both Barrett and Dmac on the field (And Reiko, who will probably be used in off his wing). Venters comparison of the first fives is on the money. IF the English get in BBs face, they will disrupt the AB rhythm and put him off his game. This is where having a more Farrell like first five like Mounga on the bench is a good safety strategy for Hanson & Co. If the English survive the first half, they might not appreciate having to defend against the one-two punch of BB and Dmac running into space off of Moungas pass.
Mitchell is a proponent of line-speed on defence... Is there someone who isnt? Who is telling their team to hold back and let the attack come to them?
I agree with Ras here, the key to winning is keeping the rush defence onside, SA were very unlucky with how poorly this area was refd on Sunday morning. The English were constantly 1-3 metres in front of the hindmost foot with a number of examples where they arrived at the player before the pass was made to them. This was a shame because SA are showing really encouraging signs in the backline this year and to see them cynically and illegally shut down by the English was a blight on Sundays game.Im not convinced that the French ref who was so poor in this area during the Lions tour will be any better this weekend so I hope Hansen and Co have a really good plan B and Kieran can execute it on field if plan A doesnt work.
hes good at this journalism malarkey
Pretty sure its the same ref we had for the second lions match. If it is dont expect much.
Does the same with South Africa, maybe its general ignorance???
Thats incorrect - the newspaper in question referred to the All Blacks - see, they pay them due respect by capitalising, the same way Kiwis capitalise the word, England (some of us can even spell the word better than English people!!!). Are you really so petty that you have to show your disdain in this way?If you want to engage in proper debate, youll get the same in return, if you want to take cheap shots at my national team...
No CHL, it is what their regular plan is. Dont need a crystal ball for it. Each team plays to its strengths. The ABs is set piece & on the counter. The English is their Kick chase & defence. So its easy to make some assumptions with how they will play
Actually Scrum its Test Window related. When England were keen for us to play outside the Test Window negotiations would have taken place; the offer from WR would have to be a generous one though.Perhaps you could tone down the flaming rhetoric
