A Wellington saga that just keeps giving! Personally, put the parade back how it was. Wellington is going to be on a new mayor by the time it finally gets sorted.
âThe Suburb has moved on from the cycleway debateâ. Lol! Does Regan Dooley mean by the suburb-him and his 8 friends!! He clearly has not spoken with the majority of residents of Island Bay as they want the roadside cycleway back. #PAINTITBACK
enough already! we dont want cycle lanes. noone uses them and they put all other road users at risk
And use has dwindled even more to pathetic numbers really. So many inconvenienced for a handful.
Rubbish MaryC. Im on the parade daily and hardly see any cyclists using it. Some just use the footpath or road and there just arent that many cyclists. In the weekend even on a good day, you may see just one or two.
What a load of utter nonsense Mary C. You clearly have no idea about cyclists use of the IBCW. Most cyclists prefer to use the road. Get out of your bubble and get a life!
We have a cycle lane on Johnsonville Main Rd, and considering the space, cost and inconvenience it causes, it is very seldom used by cyclists. So I can fully appreciate Kakas opinion
Luckily the Rongotai MP knows what a complete screw up this Council has made and will make of it so government money ???
Late 2019 means after the next local body election. So things might still change.
Put it back to how it was. Surely only the lines need repainting and that shouldnt cost $10mil.
Complaining about it can achieve a lot. And I think that the people of Island Bay should have a big say in what happens in Island Bay.
Would have been more beneficial to put a bus lane through Jville as everyday is a slow crawl but hey apparent cyclists are higher priority.
I feel so sorry for the residents of Island Bay - they have fought long and hard to be heard. I congratulate the IBRA for their on going pursuit for common sense and safety for all! This council has a vote of absolutely NO confidence from me. They continue to throw good money after bad at a road that was NOT a problem for cyclists and their safety. Since their genius cycleway design has been installed there have been numerous accidents involving cyclists, pedestrians and motorists. It is now a road not fit for purpose accounting to Councillor Calvert!WCC need to own this dreadful mistake!
Yes, put the Parade back the way it was and put an end to this never ending nightmare.
Yes numbers have skyrocketed from about 3 previous riders to 9 users now. And most of these peddling jesters still pile into their cars on wintry days and weekends for their weekend warrior jaunts.
BUT the cyclists still ride on the ROAD - law change needed - if there is a cycle lane USE IT or cop a $250 fine - simple.....
I think you will find the Residents are not happy with it. It is a dangerous design and you cannot see coming out of side roads and it makes it hard to get out of them No one in Island Bay is against cycle ways they just want a better design It was working before the cycleway went in so why did they change it just to suit about a few to cycle to work. The cycleway hardly gets used and do not tell me any different I walk it everyday and go down in my car several times and hardly see anyone using it. Mine you they could put in a electric scooter way because I just about got hit by one the other day. Now they are dangerous to be on the footpath.
It has also put fear into people elsewhere not knowing when or if their street is to be Island Bayed. Beady eyes are being cast over a lot of Wellington streets.
So how come the majority of residents said they wanted it back to the road side cycleway in the last submission process? Where is your evidence to suggest the vast majority are fine with it-oh thats right there is none!!!! And also there have been far too many accidents to suggest that people are getting used to it-again the evidence is not there to back that statement up!!!
Not fine on rubbish day when the rubbish truck has to stop on the road and no one can get past it. And thats just the rubbish truck. What about vehicles making deliveries. Then there are the pedalling pillocks who tear straight through groups of bus passengers getting on or off the bus. Its a wonder more people havnt been hurt as a result of this cycleway than has been the case.
