Forgive me if Im wrong but this is a house on stilts isnt it, not a treehouse.
Thats not a tree house. If you want to see real tree houses watch HGTV.
Really felt for the builder Danny Maguire- didnt even get a mention in the summation at the end, without his good ole kiwi give it a crack attitude would probably still be a pipe dream in the owners eyes. As an aside dan the builder was some rugby player, should have been apart of the great Canterbury shield era of 80s- when you got hit by dan it would be like getting hit by those falling pines-a wood parlance as tough as teak sums it up
For the next decade or so they can live in and enjoy their blissful surroundings. Anyone of us could be dead tomorrow so why not just appreciate whats around you today!
This is just down the road from us and it does look good. We all call it the tree house but it isnt one
Amazing house! Well done guys!
yeah, its pretty cool, tree house by definition or not, but not for 600k
Or replant, which I say would be highly likely
Agree. A tree (or trees) must be the supporting structure for a tree house. But it seems to be a trend to call anything a tree house that is near a tree.
Built one quite like this in the mid 80s. Three storeys high, timber clad, cantilevered from a centre steel pole with massive joist hangers. Nice build and good fun but never so close to large standing trees and Im surprised there was no council requirement for a setback from the bush. Wonder how far it would roll if rocked off its post by a good quake?
Well done guys. There are those that have commented about starting without a BC and wanting retribution, to those banging on about it not being a tree house. The fact is you would not get BC for a dwelling founded on trees in NZ. The house design is inspired by tree house like features, with a central pole structure and branch like roof joist supports, and pole foundations. Its all been taken too literally, and the design inspiration seems lost by some readers.
My thoughts exactly as soon as the build started it went through my mind.
Designer has nothing to do with obtaining the consent. Their job is well before a consent is even applied for.
Biggest concern there would be the lack of defensible space in a wildfire. As to not having a BC.....its common practice when you have heaps of money but little respect for due process, businessmen do it all the time.
Starting a building without a consent is not just risky, it is a crime. I hope that the owner, designer and builder are fined or infringed for breaking the law.
Quite ridiculous to build in a pine forest. It is not like a redwood forest. Pines have a limited and relatively short lifespan. 20 years and they will all be gone then you have a house on poles in the middle of a big mess.
HIGHLY UNDERESTIMATED PROJECT ON VERY BEGGING
Amazing how someone thought it was a good idea to build a house in a very ugly pine forest - NZ has so many beautiful trees and it is very easy to find a place in the outdoors that is stunning.
Hard to find a section for sale in the middle of a native forest, the greenies would probably climb up them and try to stop you building too close (even though they wont own them). So theyre probably stuck with pines, for now
