Did Brett Kavanaugh deserve innocent until proven guilty? yes, yes he did just as everyone does. Theres a good reason thats a central part of our law. Imagine if you could prevent someone from doing something just by an accusation alone (let alone an uncorroborated accusation). We currently are unfairly indulging people in NZ with a hecklers veto, lets not expand that.
If someone 0ly accused me of a gross sexual crime I to would defend myself , vigorously !!
Did Brett Kavanaugh deserve innocent until proven guilty? What this says is, does everyone deserve innocent until proven guilty? In NZ, our law says you are innocent until proven guilty? This writers opinion is just that. It is not law, even if it is the opinion of half the population, it is still opinion and changing a law to guilty, then requires you to be proven innocent will only effect those without the funds to afford good legal support.Did anybody actually closely look at the facts that were presented in this issue? I spent hours looking at what was presented as the facts, not the opinion based rhetoric that the supporters of both sides presented. He was not proven guilty, so he is innocent.
Imagine if a woman was accused of sexual violation 30 years ago with no proof. The hysterical shouty manner from the #METOO collective would be truly deafening.
Thats the weirdest job interview Ive ever seen. Imagine going for an interview and the potential employer brings out a woman who claims you assaulted her... I dont think Id take the job
Why the quotes around suffering. Judge Kavanaugh went through living hell in the face of an accusation which could not be remotely corroborated, and which could well have been a 0 recovered memory.
Imagine if a man so blatantly lied about a number of the facts? Who he still have so much celebrity support?Afraid of flying, afraid of small spaces, afraid of not having two exists in your house. The two doors issue appeared after marriage counselling bought it to the surface only to have the claim proven to be 0.Building consent records show the door was fitted in 2008 and the house was sub leased to students. The door was a private entrance for students subleased rooms, however initially presented as repressed trauma that appear in 2012 counselling.A past partner, of 6-7 years) described in some detail a holiday around the Hawaiian islands, flying on small planes, staying in small rooms, with no fear of being in rooms with only one escape. Then she cant even name the location of the place, date or even who was there when the assault took place, except for Kavanaugh, then other people at that party said she was never there. There are plenty of cases when men (mainly black men) have served rape sentences, to only have DNA prove 30 years later it was not them.Seems acceptable for a female to act that way and maybe it says something about how society expects different genders to be...
Instead of trying to justify destroying someones career with unsubstantiated claims, how about encouraging women to speak up AT THE TIME of an assault? Surely that is the lesson to be learned from this sorry debacle? Or you could continue politicizing sexual assault claims to further your own agenda - your choice.
Women lie
What did I just read... Employers check for convictions, there has been no conviction! lets make this clear, there is no criminal record here. Innocent until proven guilty should always prevail. Anyone saying he is not fit for the job needs to ask themselves how they would handle the pressure of such accusations under such a spotlight,
He was not on trial. He didnt need to be proven innocent. The standard required to be shown - was he fit to serve on the Supreme Court? Apparently, according to the powers that be, he was.
Problem I have with that whole situation is that the allegations magically appeared out of thin air for apparently political reasons at a much too convenient time.. It would have set a dangerous precedent if any time you wanted to block someone from gaining a position you could do so by allegation alone.
As a female I call BS on this entire process. If the complainant was after justice she would have taken the matter to the Police and sooner than 30 years later when no evidence still exists. This was not about a crime it was an exercise in political grandstanding. Democrats violently rail against the Presidents choice of Supreme Court Justice for weeks and then at the last moment produce some woman claiming he assaulted her 30 years ago. She cant remember the details of the event, most of the people there, who drove her home. The people she does name as being there all say they werent. But she does point the finger at the Presidents nominee as her attacker. There is no evidence available to support this and the claims cannot be substantiated and everyone must have known this from the start. This was just an opportunity to smear the candidate. This women does nothing for other victims of assault who will now have their claims treated less seriously because of incidents like this.
Like many lawyers this author is politically naive. Behind all these women coming forward are the same lawyers with the same agenda - stop Trump from doing anything until they can get power back again. In fact, its looking like Stormy never even met Trump, let alone had an affair. And the row of women teamed up against Trump before the election were offered $500K if he lost - lol, they humiliated themselves for nothing. These people are using women as pawns in their power games.
She accused him of sexual assault, which is a crime.
Some studies have concluded the rate of 0 complaints of sexual assault are as high as 40%. Perhaps it is time to legislate to ensure innocent people are not discriminated against in job interviews in circumstances like this.
Susan is showing a distinct lack of understanding in how impeachment proceedings work, and a lack of discernment and judgement in not being able to distinguish between due process and a witch hunt. Its this kind of imbalance opinion that leads the general uninformed populace to view the Democrats as the victims and the Republicans as the villains, when the reality is quite different.
Any body who followed this will know Ford is a lair and not a creditable witness it was more about the Democrats playing games she has just made it harder for real victims
all people deserve the presumption of innocence. only the left would think otherwise....
The mans reputation was pretty much destroyed. Yes, this wasnt about going to jail, but it was much, much more than about simply getting a job. His reputation, relationships, marriage and mental health have all likely been affected by this saga - and these will remain tainted forever. As one of John Olivers writers tweeted, Whatever happens, Im just glad we ruined Brett Kavanaughs lifeThis was about much more than a job interview
