French rugby clubs ready to break records to swoop on Beauden Barrett post-RWC

Not that it should really matter, but IMO post 2019 he has earned the right to take the biggest cheque he can get his hands on. I dont blame any player for doing that now considering it is effectively a business decison. However, those that forge a successful career with New Zealand teams and then seek lucrative contracts in the twilight years hold the most respect in my eyes.

yes and no. Hes currently on around $700k+ a year with the ABs. by the end of 2019 hell have been in the ABs for 8 years at an average of around $500k a year i.e. $4 million. + endorsements on top.So even though his career could be short he has already earned far more than most people ever will and his family is already set up for life. His next AB contract is likely to be well over $1 million NZD a year. So if he stays with the ABs until the 2023 RWC (another 4 years), all up hell have earned around $9 million playing for the ABs.Hell have endorsements on top of that which would no doubt contribute at least another $3 million. So lets say $12 million all up.In 2024 hell be 32, so could easily have a good 3 or 4 years left in him, so he could still go to France and cash in.

To be honest I wouldnt be surprised if Barrett signed either a one-year or two-year deal and then came back home.

he needs 2 do whts best for his bank and personal life... forget wht public thinks

Surely he will be offered a clause in his contract like Carter to go up north and earn for a French season.

Barrett is merely another player on the production line. If you think all black rugby will stop when any one player finishes then you are a fool

Why the hell would any club want to pay big money for Koribete. He is a great league winger who is bad at rugby.

As long as NZ is looking after grassroots level players and coaches, players will rise to be All Blacks and make there name and move on to the overseas contracts in their late 20s. If B Barrett goes after the world cup, I would think, thanks for your great contribution, well done, best of luck in Europe, youve earnt. He has inspired the next generation of players to replace him, which will probably coming over the horizon as he flys out.

good points raised mate..I get the feeling though that he is a bit of a legacy player, and may look at another world cup after that, he will only be 32 yrs old..he may want to surpass DC and become our greatest 10 ever..I would say NZRFU will pull out all stops to keep him here...big european money however may have the final say

Im confident he will want a shot at the 2023 World cup. If they lose next year he will have unfinished business and want to rectify it. If they win he has a shot at doing something unprecedented three World cup victories if he managed to achieve that as a starting 10 it puts him in a class of his own legendary status.

NZRFU might want to consider buying a little rugby club in nowheresville, europe, build it up and enter all those european comps (providing this is even possible) using ex ABs playing a brand of rugby we all know, wins. Just a thought.

Nothing but love and RESPECT for those that take up the cash by heading overseas. Please NZRFU...please do not try and compete for these gifted athletes by matching dollars, we will lose, and more importantly our next generations will lose. I see the new Carters, Barretts, Retallics etc every weekend running, catching, passing...awesome. Retired stars could do more by returning home to coach, referee, inspire our youngsters...giving back. Thats where our investment should be.

A comment about Beauden Barrett thats not just trashing the guy, you feeling alright Max?

Aaaah, I see what you did there, flat earth, Canterbury Plains, very good (although I suspect entirely unintentional).

I think he will stayâ¦..or maybe have a sabbatical in Japan for a few millionâ¦.but i dont see him running off to play club rugby next year specially when his brothers are ABs with him. Lets not forget hes in the middle of forging a legendary AB career for himself, thats not something Lima Sopoaga was doing.

Barrett would be going backwards in life if he went to league.

Great analysis and very 1 - he has enough time and talent to take the best of both worlds. Unforetunately, his past life in Europe in his younger years could be a drawing factor too. will be an interesting one to watch.

If mounga started every game, the all blacks would still win every game

Guys said that when Michael Jones retired And then when Josh Kronfeld retiredYou see where Im going with this? Even the king might be overtaken one day

Bring back Stephen Donald for 10k and a bag of Doritos while Barretts overseas. Will still will each game. Build up some real $ to keep big Brodie retallic
