Nelson, Tasman councils to enter negotiations over Waimea dam funding

That water is mainly to supply Industrial properties, ie. freezing works, ENZA and Whakatu Industrial Estate. I think Industrial users are charged less for their water use under NCC than residential users too. How is this fair?

So the Nelson CEO still working on guesstimates ..... do they never learn?

Thats been the problem all along realiststeve - FACTS. There has been fiction and obfuscation. There has been hidden agendas and private meetings. There has been new privacy contracts put to the councillors, so they cant divulge anything and the public have a proper debate. Facts would be great! Unfortunately they arent out there. Just watch the council say that the dam cant supply Richmond because the infrastructure required for that to happen definitely isnt included in the costs so far and that for water surety purposes theyll have to accept Nelson Councils offer. This dam is all about bringing another marginal 1200 ha of horticulture land into production. In an area that is already over committed and cant take anymore nutrient loading, this is completely unsustainable. But anything for another dollar. We are so shortsighted.

No no no This is so wrong! Councils should be looking at enforcing rainwater collection on all new builds before we even start considering something like this. If horticulture cant sustain its self with rain water collection then it shouldnt exist. This is pure madness

I thought the funding was all set, looks like more Rate Payer add ons. Tell us the truth.

The NCC CEO comment that for $20 to $25 m NCC could supply long term 5,000 cubic meters a day indicates that the propaganda spread by TDC was just lies and deceit and shows that TDC has not undertaken even a cursory alternative options review . There is a solution for potable supplies and it is affordable, sustainable and more certain than the Waimea Dam option. The Waimea Dam option will almost certainly not assist with augmenting Richmond potable supplies in any material manner.

Three years ago NCC said it could supply all NCC properties in south stoke including Industrial by installing an already priced at $4 million new pipeline. Suddenly its a $20 to $25 million pipeline. It is time water was sorted on a regional approach, prices emanating from both councils highly paid help are all over the place. If you read the 2017 Stantec report there is no shortage of water these self important council officers are trying to predict demand in 100 years. 10 years ago orchardists were on the ropes and there were several more dairy farms than today. Irrigation demand has almost halved in the last decade who knows the position in another 10 years

So Nelson Coucil is thinking about, perhaps, just maybe, kicking in $5 million and getting $20m to $25m back for the upgrade to supply Richmond. Tasman ratepayers pockets open again. When will the lies and obfuscation end? Few of the councillors really seem to have any idea at all what is going on - they continue to bury their heads in the sand and believe whatever flavour of the day rubbish theyre fed.

At last they have come clean on NCC $5m contribution not being a donation but in exchange for shares in the Dam company. What they are still not being up front about is that the NCC shares will come out of the TDC shareholding resulting in TDC becoming a minority shareholder with WIL thereby, becoming the largest single shareholder.

criticalsteve you still havent answered questions from last week. if you have no interest in the dam, which means you arent a ratepayer, then are you poking your nose into other peoples business and criticising them? Are you a TDC manager by any chance whos policys are being bought into question .Itmakesyouwonders has a very valid point and has asked a question. questions need facts as answers and you only provided criticism. bit SHORT on reality.the 22000 m3 would provide water for 22000 houses as TDC say that 1m3 per house per day is acceptable.

Wheres the $50 million over budget going to come from?

And maybe a subsidy for existing homes to install rain collection systems. This should be happening all over NZ.

Been saying just this for 10 years

So a behind closed doors yet NCC were allowed in, where is the democracy. Tasman ratepayers are doomed

We wont get the truth until contracts are locked in. Then well see the litigators liquidate and the ratepayer be left to pick up the lot. Lets see the underwriting of the instigators loan with the instigators properties instead of by the ratepayers - Im sure wed quickly see how serious they are.

What assurances did the Nelson council CEO give to TDC? Is the 5 million already to be given from Nelson ratepayers just a down payment? What future additional funding from NCC has been discussed? This is democracy; keep those paying in the dark!

so what was so reassuring to Wensley then from NCC CEO? he doesnt seem to know what could possibly have changed her no to a yes!!

Very Good point and the TDC have taken private land which has been in the same family for well over 100 years for a money making enterprise? Very unfair to landowners who have had there land taken under the public works act.

The rates rort begins in earnest .

how can spending more money not have an impact on rates? Thats why councils have rates.or am I and the rest of the questioners missing something?because this proposed increased spending on the dam has already increased rates and should it go through my rates will go up not by $29 but a minimum of $138 per year for 20+ years plus increased water charges if I use water.the price of a 25000 litre water tank.and mine isnt tax deductible like the irrigators and there tax limiting family trusts.
