Factually incorrect. In NZ users are licenced not weapons. If you dont have a licence you cannot buy a firearm or ammunition If you get caught selling to an unlicenced person you can kiss your own licence goodbye. 16 / 17 year olds can get a licence but are only permitted to own air rifles. To own a firearm you must be 18.
Heading out to buy Levis
Yep, 40 years ago before children were getting shot in their classrooms.
but its still ok to make levis in sweat shops in pakistan. yeah right
Because we dont have a gun problem.
Good on them for wanting to deal with gun violence, however i suspect that what will be focused on will not be criminal;s but actual law abiding citizens. We have seen the same emotional approach here (and we dont have a gun violence problem like they do) where the head of the Police assn (Their union, not the official NZ police) spends a lot of effort haranguing law abiding firearms owners but is very silent on anything to do with catching or punishing the criminal element.
Free and easy access to guns in US simply makes guns the go-to weapon since they are a distance weapon, hence much lower risk to the user. Compare with a knife (or acid) which is a proximity weapon, with much higher risk to the knife user of having the knife taken away and used against them or the victim deflecting the strike or being over-powered during the attackThe likelihood of person A attacking person B decreases if person A is more likely to be caught or harmed in the act. Using a gun rather than a knife decreases person A likelihood of being caught, so they are more likely to attack person B with a gun if they had the choice between a gun and a knifeThere is no reason to believe the population proportion that are prone to acts of violence is significantly different in US vs other developed western countries. It is only the moderating force regarding the likelihood of being caught that differentiates different populations propensity to attacking othersThe evidence shows that countries with stricter gun control laws (eg. NZ, Aus, UK, Europe, Canada) have fewer gun related crimes on a per capita basis than countries with looser gun control laws eg USAnd relatively free access to guns with very loose regulations has near perfect statistical correlation with increased gun related crimeHence, guns are the problem in US
I was attempting to explain NZs gun licencing laws to an American acquaintance and showed him my NZ firearms licence. He was deeply shocked and wondered how I could survive in such a communist country. There in a nutshell is the depth of intellect being applied by many Americans to this issue.
Restricting bullets, now that is a strange suggestion when you dont agree with restricting guns.
because we have 250,000 police approved licensed holders who are not criminals. the cost of a buy back would be horrendous and wouldnt alter the firearms crime rate one single iota
How about you spend that money developing jeans like you used to make that lasted years? The modern ones barely make it through a year now.
I just dont understand the difficulty in accepting that guns (not the people) actually are the problem in americaTo me its just like the drug battle. The entire world doesnt accept that it is the people who are the problem, it says the drugs are the problem and targets the traffickersFor guns, the rest of the western world doesnt accept that it is the people who are the problem, it says the guns are the problem and controls their supply very tightlyWhat civilised country accepts mass-murders at schools (and elsewhere) are a fair price to pay so some idiot can purchase a vast collection of deadly weapons that are designed for use in warfare
Holy Grail.....a good pair of Levis
Look, Im all for this, its great news but, frankly, it doesnt make a blind bit of difference to me. Im still not buying American crap. I cant bring myself to contribute to the economy a country that votes a creep like Trump into office.
Is interesting to see how many people are easily fooled by their stand when the rest of their business relies on exploiting people.
No-one is suggesting taking guns off law-abiding people. The suggestion is to do background checks on gun buyers, and restrict sales to those over 21. I dont think bringing in those two changes will lead to the Armageddon scenario of law-abiding people being overrun by armed criminals that you instantly escalated to. I dont know if youre American, but its that sort of mindless response that seemingly stops any kind of progress being made towards getting Americas gun problems reined in a bit.
Actually, many many many people are extremely happy to see big companies taking a stand. They arent perfect, obviously. But its a start.
last pair i bought cost me $130, were made in pakistan and lasted 4 months. when i first started buying levis they were so heavy that i could just about stand them up. now i just buy cheap jeans as they may only last 6 months but they are a fraction of the cost and with all the money i save i buy more guns and ammo
I think you could escalate that a bit more. How about heavy calibre machine guns? Grenade launchers? But when all the crims get grenade launchers youll have to one-up them and get a flame thrower but soon the crims get ahold of those in numbers so youll be forced to get a tank or rocket launcher. And so it goes. Feed guns into the hands of the population and they will end up in the criminals hands eventually so logically....
Good move. Im even considering buying something from Nike.
