An assisted dying law would not result in more people dying, but fewer people suffering. Agree one hundred percent. How some people believe that they should make such important decisions about other peoples lives is unfathomable. If you want to suffer, than suffer. If others dont want to suffer, then stand aside and let them make decisions about their own lives and dying process.
Nobodys religion should affect my life, or death, in any way.My life, my death, my way.
most of those against euthanasia have never seen a person really suffering, in absolute agony, and wishing to end their life!
How is it life is prolonged & animals are allowed to be put down to prevent long term suffering but humans have to suffer no matter how undignified it gets and becomes a burden on resources, families and taxes. Could someone think straight and sort this so I dont have to suffer
We are a lot more humane towards suffering animals than we are with our terminally ill.
Agreed. Very difficult to watch your loved ones go through the final few months then last two weeks dying of cancer.
The number of people dying wont increase, as everyone dies at some stage!
For those who want to believe all about God and their lives that is fine but they have no right to demand the rest of us do the same. If I get to any level of helplessness and therefore dependency on others I want to be put down - quickly. The tired and lame argument that aĺl old people will be taken advantage of and euthanased against their will is just a cop out. I am happy that there will be more than enough checks and balances to ensure that does not happen.
Which Lord, is this? Why should I fear him?Why shouldnt I fear anything else?I reject your reality and substitute my own.
When your quality of life through illness, aging or disease has ebbed to an unbearable state you have the right to determine if you have dignity. No one else, particularly those who object for religious purposes have any right to know better than you do. It beggars belief in this day and age that religious institutions that have harboured pedofiles, openly despise homosexuals, opposed hiv prevention through condoms etc etc believe they have any moral authority left. Bugger off and let the rest of us â˜not choose life when we feel our suffering should end.
Its about choice.... Unless you are in that persons shoes that is crying out to ease their suffering, you just cant have any comprehension of the extreme pain or degradation of physical motor skills they are going through to want to cease living..
Its my life and my choice if I want to end it in dignity. Simply as
I have been there with my own mother, I had to fight an anti euthanasia, mental health advocate who was adamant that even tho my mother was terminal, in extreme suffering and pain and had no quality of life left, was too young to die and had not really thought out her choice to withhold medical treatment with the doctors support because the treatment was not working........ even the doctors were disgusted that somebody would willingly advocate prolonged and extended suffering AGAINST the persons wishes..... I have watched people suffer in agony because families have used guilt tripping and accused them of not loving their families enough, so they suffered on in order to please their families...... and your comment reminds me of people that do that because they are so selfish, all that matters to them, is themselves......
What is very sad is the number of people who dont understand the difference between murder and euthanasia. Melissa15, my husband had excellent palliative care. Sadly no drugs exist to keep the pain away for some cancer sufferers at the end. The side effects created even more problems. My husband fought to the end but begged for death in his last two days. To give him pills to go to sleep and never wake up at this stage of his death journey should not be considered murder and should have been an option. My husband was lucky as he had cancer and it was relatively quick at the end. Our neighbour had motor neuron disease and truly suffered. You need some more life experience before telling other people whether they have the right to end their life on their terms or not.
There is nothing dignified about lying in a bed in a coma for six months, with a brain tumour. You have a drip delivering fluids and morphine, You hava catheter for urine. A simple overdose would have done the trick but the bloody doctor wouldnt administer it. They used to.
I watched my 62 years old Mother die the most awful painful death from cancer. I will never forget it. She lost all her dignity. She was in constant pain she could barely eat, she couldnt walk or go to the toilet by herself. Our whole family would have been much better off to have avoid seeing that so would have Mum. Mum didnt deserve to die like that she should have been able to take sleeping tablets and just not wake up. Instead she could barely breath, she had tumours all over her body, constant pain, and died struggling for breath. Watch someone you love suffer, really suffer and see if you still hold 1 to your stupid religion.
Actually I think most people do understand that. The body being able to sustain life does not mean one should continue to do so in immense pain and suffering for months or years. Everyone dies, it is about choosing to do so in a comfortable, dignified way that allows family to say goodbye knowing their loved one is free from an unbearable and cruel existence. I certainly wouldnt wish for those close to me to be traumatised by watching me suffer unnecessarily.
I am not a nurse. But everyone should have the choice. If they want to carry on, so be it. If they want to go, then that should be their right too. I certainly do not want to be dirtying the bed when i cant do anything about it, and my choice would be to let go.
Sums it up perfectly for me. Its available in other nations why cant we make it work.
Read the submissions to the select committee. The majority against the bill say an imaginary being told them it was bad (or words to that effect). Anyone publishing something against euthanasia is very careful not to expose their delusional motivation.
