Council more likely to narrow the highway to implement a cycle lane than widen it !
Ah the old discussion that is at least 50 years old ..... ie heard all my life. The second tunnel was first drilled in the 70s.How about some âLets do this!â ? Pitiful access to and from city to airport and eastern suburbs.
Never going to happen, which is a real shame. Especially when current council, thinks everyone should be riding a bike or using public transport!
Who would buy a house on that stretch of Road, it has the slowest moving traffic and must take forever to get in and out of your driveway, that corner up further also contributes to the traffic jam, and backs right up to the airport,
Excuse me but if Jackie bought her house only two years ago she knew FULL WELL that Wellington Rd is earmarked for major works. Its been in motion for several years at least. No sympathy here.
Provision of a fit for purpose route from the city to the airport is LONG overdue....!!
Shes right you know, could be 10 or 20 years. Nothing quick ever happens with NZTA
the council stopped this, with their decision to block the flyover
Stuffing around as usual.
Please nz government just build the fly over at the basin, widen the road all the way from terrace tunnel to airport and lets really get Wellington moving!!!!Put cycle lanes in also but lets first off sort this congestion!!!
And all the nimbys stopping any progress in Wellington. Even if the airport was moved out of town wed still need this road to be improved as the airport would be turned to housing and that would still equate to the same amount of cars negotiating it.
If I was the government I wouldnt give road funding to Auckland either.... they simply dont deserve it.. they have has so many chances to improve the roading situation over the years but do not have the intelligence to know how to use it... so Auckland get used to gridlock as that is all you will ever know... the 1 meaning of living in a time warp
Its all about the left hand not knowing about what the right hand is doing in a system that moves at less than a snails pace. Id sign a lease if I was desperate even with a 30 day quit notice at the end of it.
The flyover and the widening of the road I can agree with, but no, no more cycle lanes... Theyre simply over-demanded, and slapped in to quell this over-demand, then made to be a debacle. The madness thats being brought on by the movement, reminds me of the anti-flyover group that pushed their own agenda, ruining the prospect for the rest of us.Get the traffic moving first, as thats holding busses up as well. There are many alternative routes for cycles if they are not confident in being on the road sharing, with the rest of us.
Omg, here we go again. I put money on it will take another 20 years before any decision is made on Wellington Rd so remaining residents should rest easy. This is New Zealand after all!
it would have been all go except for the Mt Victoria residents association getting involved and squashing all hope of getting through town more effectively
Typical narrow minded thinking. Yes you may well be able to get about on a bus or tram in your little world, but people with families needing to go to and from sporting and other events cannot use trams and busses or bikes. Cars whether diesel, petrol electric or hybrid are here to stay. The sooner you grasp that reality the happier you will be.
Oh the joys of coherent, long-term planning, joined-up government, and consistent policy.Wouldnt they be nice. . .
Typical NZTA efficiency Trying to make the transport system slower.
4 minutes, who are you kidding? The entire Wellington City has come to a point of stagnation because of a lack of investment in infrastructure over past decades. All of this because of a gaggle of loopy greens and beret wearing trendies that object to anything and everything that would make the city more progressive. Just more lip service by the so-called environmentalists on a day when our very own PM is being specially flown on an air force jet to spend a few hours at a meeting and get back to feed baby. Do these minority groups really think the general public are mugs?
