What a shame. I hope the Council and who was involved with this stupid Cycleway feel ashamed for losing people there lively income. Some Corporate Bullies and there cycle mates shame on you all.

The cycle lane was built for Celia. Ah should be prosecuted for wasting taxpayer money. She could have got a taxi to work for years and saved us a fortune

cycle ways are dangerous. tried on victoria street to get on bus by webb st but as cyckeway goes between footpath and bus stop nearly got knocked down even though cyclist sign says they must give way. what a totally dumbarse and unsafe design WCC

WCC has made a monumental stuff-up and its costing people their livelihood. This could be the biggest mistake they have made so far in Wellington. Put the dam road back to how it used to be for god sake.

Jimmie the dairies the cars on the road, pedestrians and cyclists got along just fine before that awful blight on Island Bay the new cycle-way came along and ruined the ambiance and flow of the Parade. Try walking up and down from Buckley Road and back to the dairy. I drive to the dairy and park in the 10 minute parks and note that most people do not go over time. Not everyone is fit and able to walk or cycle to the dairy. Are you suggesting we go back to horse and cart?

Our delivery drivers all use the side / back roads when in Island Bay, the Parade is far to dangerous for anything larger than a Moped !

Councils serving the interests of the minority (or personal friends - as I like to call it)!

Was back in the Bay a couple of weeks ago, from Brisbane. It must have been a couple of free cycle days as I only saw two bikes in the two days I was there???

Celia Wade-Brown needs to be held accountable for this

Yup, cyclists dont use it on any day of the week with an A in it....

The council will never listen. They just send the parking wardens to ticket people worried their car will be the next to be sideswiped by a bus and park sensibly. Feel sorry for the dairy owners, I used to go there but it got much harder to park and dash in. The cylceway is very underused for such a massive cost and hassle to the whole community.

Try having a friend with mobility issues and to get them out of the car on the parade. Often we get abused by cyclists for taking time to get out and cross over to the footpath - shows the selfish attitude of these people ...

I have lived in island bay for nearly forty five years and Im really amazed and sadden with the amount damage and stress this cycleway has done for the families and the community as a whole. Island bay is a lovely and an amazing place to live and this cycleway needs to be removed before it changes our community for the worst.By the way Andrew Little and Paul Eagle, how about standing up for your community that you both live in.

Yes I have seen it happen myself.Real cyclists have never been a problem for decades, its the pedalling pillocks that are the problem nowadays.

Sadly the inept have taken over and things wont change.

They also got around absolutely fine in Island Bay until this cycleway came along.I recently went down there and back on one of those double decker buses and from my seat on the top deck had a grandstand view of the cycleway. Not a single cyclist on it.

Not all dairies are the same. Obviously there are multiple factors to a dairies survival. This is something you probably wouldnt understand, unless youve actually been a dairy owner. Parking is one of them and depending on the location some dairies do survive from foot traffic or certain external factors ... so to say some of them survive, yeah they do, but it depends on certain factors. In this case Island bay has been subject to test dummies of a cycleway design that has done no good since its been implemented. And one of the negative effects is on dairies and if you saw the video above, other businesses such as the butchery and local cafes. This article is just highlighting the effect the cycleway has had on dairies to iterate the unspoken effects of it all. It is something that Island bay has been battling with and something that should have been dealt with years ago.

If cave men had cars they would have driven

Those who voted for her and Justin Lester should be held accountable too!

Wow, epic logic leap. So you know more about his business than he does do you? A sudden 60% downturn in business is not a trend, its a quantum shift which is almost certainly attributable to an equally sudden change in the environment in which the business is operating.
