Its about time the WCC concentrated on being a council not a land developer. And heres an idea Justin how about dealing with the crippling dept you and previous mayors have cursed wellington rate payers with. I hear rate payers are paying a million dollars a week in interest on your loans.
Rebuild it as a prison - the way things are going were going to need it.
If you drive up the narrow winding roads to Strathmore state houses you will see why buses dont frequent the area, you can barely drive a car up there never mind a bus
Infrastructure is always funded by taxpayers. Developers need to make a contribution when adding loads.
The land is privately owned @Luke Hunt by the Golf Club. Howd like someone come to your house and tell you were going to cut it in half because we are going to build something else on the other half.
Great idea. Just do it. Although I dont know why New Zealand is obsessed with visitor centres to tell our heritage stories. No one really cares about our stories. They just want something that looks nice, and is a pleasant place to be.

Really? I was based at Shelly Bay back in the 80s, I dont recall an abundance of courses at that end of town apart from a goat track over Berhamphore way.
Its prime land. You wont find affordable housing or land, near the coast or a major city anywhere in the world. Why would you think you should be able to do it in Wellington?
Considering the fiasco of the bus âbotch-upâ I would suggest that Wellington City Council and councillors havent displayed much competency managing projects. Perhaps they should get the buses right before embarking on yet another âvisionâ to nowhere.
His idea ? Most people would have looked at the report prepared just a few years earlier the crown, council and other owners for the land to become a reserve with commercial services on the defence land, not privatise crown and council land for private hotels, apartments and houses.
And imagine if that ferry kicked you all off at Greta Point and made you catch another one
Wont happen in my lifetime, it will need at least 30 years of consultation with Iwi and residents before a single bit of turf is turned
The road and bays around the north end are VERY nice as they are. No need to make it one way. Sometimes things are best left alone and just enjoyed. Sure slice a bit off the golf course so through traffic doesnt need to ticket in and ticket out of the airport, but the rest of the place is just fine as it is.
The WCC shows a nebulous approach to this area with no direction. On the one hand it wants to develop the entire peninsula and thus ruining it for the little natural areas left and on the other hand wants it as a native wildlife area. The two are incompatible aims. Filling it with people and the ensuing extra traffic will be the death knell for the nesting little blue penguins. Survival of Kiwis in the present environment could be measured in hours let alone filling the area with more residents and tourists.The WCC needs to get is act together. Pandering to vested interests as they do now is not the way forward. Here is a suggestion. How about acting for the present ratepayers for a change instead of pie in the sky grand plans.

Incompetent as Lesters regime is, you cant blame that one on him. That was his mates down the road at Greater Wellington. They are the guys that take the other chunk of rates on your quarterly statement.

City Councils have a habit of using the think big approaches that died with the Muldoon era. Thats a real pity for it shows that these councils and the people that are their members have not really moved on since that disastrous unenterprising time. In Lower Hutt, we are still waiting on the announcement that the world class park at Avalon has been completed. Parts of it are still under construction and other parts are a mess, yet we have had no announcement from the Lower Hutt City Council of the progress of this huge and ambitious project. It was supposed to have been completed over a year ago.
