Kiwis' TV pride shows "unsophisticated" style

says the guy who makes a living off people watching him on the living room t.v

Interior designers are famous for having no sense of practicality. Give them a drawing of a room and ask them where they would put the speakers and they will point to corners every time, where a speaker is guaranteed to sound the worst. Some of us set our viewing rooms up for optimal sound and vision because we actually understand the practicalities of these things...

What nonsense. Pretentious people pretending they dont care about TV. Honestly the TV is the reason I have a living room. The art of home décor is not to disguise and hide something so important and useful. Thats just being lazy. Its ugly so Ill hide it. The real challenge is to design a room that enhances and compliments said ugly item and makes it look awesome in the space it needs.

As Joey said on Friends - You dont own a TV? Whats all your furniture pointed at?. Love my TV!

Just to annoy him, im going to keep it right as the centerpiece of our lounge. And the cowshed comment just shows how upper class and pompous he is/tries to be. What business is it of anyones where people put their TV or how they lay out their house etc. But thats no different than was planned anyway, we have a seperate living room too for all the conversational nonsense. But anyway, back to the cowshed i go, Judge Rinder is on.

Referring to the Paul Mcreddie photo, Id hide the TV behind a set of ugly cupboard doors too if mine was that small. And if I was lucky enough to have a beach view instead of the pailing fences of suburbia it would probably change my priorities.

Not to mention more bathrooms than bedrooms in houses these days. That seems to be normal with rich people. Maybe all that expensive food goes through you so fast that they need bathrooms everywhere. ;)

Yes, and watch people sit awkwardly when the telly is placed to the side of the obvious place for it to sit.The telly is now a media device, not simply a dumb screen showing broadcast reality rubbish. Makes sense for it to located where it both is in a sensible position for viewing and where data cables etc are located.Have fun staring at crappy artwork and pretending you are sophisticated...

I prefer the not that far from the cowshed and antisocial vibe, Look, It is intentional and shows our sophisikation

I dont really watch this show anymore and hes part of the reason. Just way too pretentious. Not to mention out of touch with real people. Instead he wants to design houses for rich people. Which makes sense as theyre the only ones who can afford what hes talking about. I mean who actually wants a Safari room and a deep blue maritime room, and then another disconnected room in another section of the house. Bring back a Block thats about building houses rather than one long add for Freedom Furniture. Remember when The Block used to feature building and painting? And every season there is one house that gets a raw deal on location due the town house obsession.

I dont think farmers have a lot of time to watch to TV and to use the term in a derogatory way is completely distasteful. In times of emergency, eg the Chch Feb earthquake, who was more useful - a truckload of interior designers, or the farmer who brought a truckload of water around our suburban streets, or the ones who took truckloads of debris away. Its farmers who grow the food Mr Bonham eats.Im sure there are interior designers out there who are doing face palms after Mr Bonhams comments. I have the TV where its the best for viewing and sound - usually for movies, as TV programs like The Block dont have any quality vision or sound to start with.TVs above the fireplace are just going to give you a sore neck, and the fire would be distracting to viewing.

Can I assume you meant: Id love to have the fortitude to live without a TV at all. ?

i like tv .its art with sound and moving pictures .i wonder what he does when sitting on his couch ,my guess is he is on his ipad or phone watching netflix

You trust Youtube with your kids???

Thanks AI, yep, thats what I meant. :-)

LOL, hilarious. As soon as I read The Block and interior designer this article lost all and any shred of credibility it could have had. What these pretentious people think is largely irrelevant at the best of times. Your home, have the TV where you damn well like.

I dont know whose houses hes been visiting in the UK, but certainly not the general run of things which is (shock horror) much the same as here.

I have a specially made home cinema room which is ONLY about watching a screen. However of the 3 other communal spaces we have, only two have tvs (the upstairs lounge) with the tv set located as the obvious focal point, and the huge outside living/bbq space that opens up from the kitchen and downstairs formal living area (which has no tv). This is usually because Sydney summers are hot and its nice to watch sport in the backyard with steaks and beers. Ironically we dont watch much broadcast tv (apart from the ABC and SBS) so theyre usually off 80% of the time. Pretty much everything we do watch is set up to be streamed via various apps from wherever you are in the house to whichever screen(s) you choose./

Good point - unless he was specifically invited into our homes to judge our decorating style why would he need to have an opinion on it?

The first sign of lunacy is trying to keep up with international trends
