Excellent investigative journalism , nice to here both sides of the story for a change .

So good to read a proper analysis of the events, rather than the one-sided media and advocacy beatups.

Really excellent journalism but very sad to see any thumb down votes. Clearly sponges that want tax payers to support them. This woman is an entitled piece of everything that lets the welfare system down and she sees herself justified.

Mrs f is a disgrace .. there is no way someone should be buying selling on all those benefits shows the systems badly flawed

Good journalism. Pity that people like Ms F ruin for beneficiaries with genuine need.

Youâ're kidding right. You really think this is what the welfare system had in mind when it was set up. It beggars belief. Iâ'd prefer my taxes to go to those who genuinely need it. Regardless of the law thereâ's no justification

Thankyou MARTIN VAN BEYNEN. Keep digging into some of the other headliners out there. Talk back radio hang your head.

So you win a big prize on Lotto do you have to declare it? How are the Govt going to know about it anyway? The list of benefits she was on is amazing the domestic purposes benefit, accommodation supplement, disability allowance, special benefit, temporary additional support and special needs grants over a five year period starting in April 2005. And she is buying and selling houses?Jeez.

Disability allowance is for the cost of ongoing medical costs - either for the actual person and/or their children -it covers doctors visits, transport, prescriptions etc and IS income tested. A disabled child would qualify for Child Disability Allowance - this is NOT income tested and is paid fortnightly.....for you information Greenerth...

Interesting that a beneficiary can sell and buy s many houses in a short period of time. And she was running a business while on a benefit!

Buying and selling houses in Auckland while getting handouts from tax payers. Yeah our social welfare system is so great *sarcasim*Perhaps she was getting help from Metiria Turei?

Why should we. This seems quite dodgy If you have the means to run a business buy sell and profit real estate transactions then what do you need welfare for??

completely agree with oscarBailey see below. The benefits provided by the government are paid for by tax payers to assist those in need.ie those who cannot help themselves due to circumstances or metal/physical disabilities. This woman would not seem to fit any of these categories.

I get the disability allowance too and polly9 is correct. Im an adult. I dont have a disabled child. I get it to cover ongoing medical costs.

Court of law and spirit of law are not the same thing. Asset rich / cash poor entrepeneurs are not in the same category of need as asset rich / cash poor pensioners or widowers / widowees.

Great article and good journalism. Will read more of Martins work, it is a rare treat to see real journalism.

You miss the point. She has manipulated the system and you canâ't justify her sponging off the welfare system whilst financially secure. Even fighting in the court to maintain her bludger life style. Itâ's morally wrong at the very least.

Good job Martin in presenting a more balanced article than many of y our colleagues seem wont to do. E.G..Enough is Enough ...regarding the speedsters on the Main Highway right through the middle of their town , when in fact the town is some distance to the east of the highway. In intellectually dishonest piece of Journalism, published I suggest to jump on yet another bandwagon. Journals should just stick to the facts or if giving an opinion ensure that opinion, is at least logically consistent with those facts, as you appear to have done

Yes and this dumb govt jumped to help with handouts....... Hmmmm

Um - I think capital gain was the motivation for the sales not structural problems. Hence she was able to repay $130,000 to her mother.
