Damned if you do and damned if you don't - the Green dilemma

Sage needs to go full stop !, my god if the Greens had the power, this country would just sink, why would you even put someone from Forest and Bird into a position such as hers in the first place ?.

Sage can try to justify it all she like but really she has cooked her goose. The game is over for her form now on. Start packing your bags Sage.

She could of resigned over an old fashioned thing called principal, but no apparently ok'ing millions of plastic bottles to be filled with water and shipped half way across the world didn't interfere enough with core Green Party politics . BMWs are nice cars though I conced that

Damned if they do and damned if they dont? So theyre damned, then. Damned Greens. Most of us knew that already, now Stuff has caught up.

Ministers are there to do a job, whether its a big important position or a lesser one. The smaller positions are testing grounds for greater things ...

She can't go to Forrest and Bird or Greenpeace other ex green losers are already there

Yes and the bit most people miss is that the bottling plant is reliant on council resource consent being approved. If people really cared theyd put the pressure on the council to decline the resource consent.

The reality of being the Government by default. These are the same people who were screaming in opposition and telling us all what they would do and not let these big companies get away with this. The grassroots of the Greens should make sure their representatives know what they think, there has been some backlash but not nearly as great as I would have thought. Some parties have no morals when they finally get some power, even though we all know that Jacinda would have given the Greens and NZ First anything to get to be PM.

Two points:Of course if Sage had an ounce of integrity, being forced to make a ministerial decision that is opposed to her personal and party philosophy, she would have resigned. Integrity and the Greens however are not words usually used in the same sentence unless it is in the negative. Also what is the point of having legislation that requires a ministerial decision but then denies the minister any discretion upon which to make that decision?

Yet another comment on this that is wrong on a critical point:So its not hard to see why party members might expect resistance to expanding water bottling and export operations now the party is in government. The Greens are not in government - they give confidence and supply to a Labour-NZ First government and in return have ministerial positions outside cabinet. If you are in any doubt as to whether they can be described as in government, just ask Winston.

Shes about as green as all the 1080 she authorises!! Totally out of her depth

So the mine is worse than the 1.1 billion litres of water??There is the assumption that the aquafier will be able to take this!!The other thing is why is china not bottling its own water, oh thats right they have already screwed up their country and now they want to do it to ours!!Over-extraction of groundwater and falling water tables are big problems in China, particularly in the north. According to the Ministry of Construction, preliminary statistics show that there are more than 160 areas nationwide where groundwater has been over-exploited with an average annual groundwater depletion of more than 10 billion cubic meters. As a result, more than 60,000 square kilometers of ground surface have sunk with more than 50 cities suffering from serious land subsidence.[1] Flooding is also still a major problem. How long before we are in the same position???

Oh well that makes all the difference how foolish of us all

Being a minister does not put you above the law. Here, the applicants seem to have met all the legal requirements under present legislation, so there were really no grounds for not letting their proposed transaction proceed.thats all that needs to be said on this issue - either people can grasp this staggeringly simple concept or they continue to carry on like fools who think that minister can unilaterally ignore or change existing law

Thats the way they wanted it and a lot of people did not want the Greens on so much but wanted the last government out. The greens do have some good points.

Was disappointing to see this happen but for me the real interest is in what will they do to prevent their and future Govts hands from being tied? Good to see in the same week this was approved they also declined an application for a West Coast open min, cant win them all but I hope their environmental voice isnt quietened by red tape.

Sounds fair! But she would not have to resign as a minister - just that portfolio. She has others.

Ever heard of something being referred back to the Department for review? Guess she hadnt either.
